Playa de la Canteria Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here, diggin' into the charts for the next couple of weeks. Let's get straight to it, 'cause I'm not gonna sugarcoat it.

We're looking at a tough stretch ahead, folks. For the entire 16-day forecast window, from August 7th right through to August 22nd, the conditions at Playa de la Canteria are pretty grim. The wind is gonna be a constant pain, blowing from the north and northeast, holding steady as a stubborn cross-onshore breeze. That's gonna keep the surface chopped up and lumpy, no good for a clean wave face.

The swell is there, but it's a messy, short-period windswell, mostly around 5 ft to 7 ft. The period is short, sitting between 6 and 9 seconds, meaning the waves will be weak and crumbly, lacking any real punch. The combined wave energy is moderate, but it's all just wasted energy under the wind.

Here's the day-by-day reality:

Friday, August 7th to Monday, August 11th: We're seeing surf in the 5 ft to 7 ft range from the NNE, but it's all "poor surf conditions" with a fresh cross-onshore wind (19 mph). The period is a short 7-8 seconds. It's a no-go.

Tuesday, August 12th to Thursday, August 14th: The swell drops a little, down to 5 ft, and the period gets even shorter at 6 seconds. The wind eases back to a moderate breeze, but it's still cross-onshore and choppy. Not worth getting wet.

Friday, August 15th to Monday, August 18th: Size picks back up, with the swell hitting 7 ft to 7 ft from the NNE, but the wind is back up to a fresh 19 mph, and the period is a poor 7-8 seconds. The wave energy is moderate, but it's all lumpy and messy.

Tuesday, August 19th to Friday, August 22nd: The swell direction shifts slightly to the north, and the period finally stretches out to 9 seconds, which is a slight improvement. The size is around 5 ft to 6 ft. The wind stays a moderate to fresh cross-onshore, though. Still, the wind is just ruining it.

Honestly, there are no standout days here. None. The wind is just too persistent and onshore to make anything of the swell that's coming through. The only positive is that Friday, August 21st, has a moderate breeze from the north at 12 mph, which is the lightest wind of the whole window, but it's still cross-onshore and the swell is small and weak.

Given the consistent cross-onshore wind and the beach-break nature of the setup, this whole period looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. You're better off waiting for a change in the wind pattern.
