Alright, Rusty here again. Let me put this one in the old-school feet and miles talk because that's what some of you still think in. I'll be straight – it’s a tough outlook.
We’re staring at a whole lot of nothing for ages. The swell just isn't there. From the start of the period right through most of July, we're scratching for anything. Hundreds of days with 1ft to 2ft waves from the south and southeast, blown clean by westerly winds but with zero power – energy readings in the teens and twenties. Even when we get a 3ft wave from the SSW on the 16th of July with a short 6-second period, the energy is only 50. Clean but weak.
There's a little hiccup around the 19th of July. We get an east swell hitting 5ft in the morning with a short 6-second period and 149 energy. But the wind cranks around onshore that afternoon and messes it up. The 20th has a similar 5ft east swell with strong 307 energy, but the wind is messy again.
The best hope is for the last week. Saturday the 25th of July shows a 4ft south swell (7 seconds) with 272 energy and clean cross-off winds. By the 26th, it jumps to nearly 7ft from the south with a 9-second period and a very strong 715 energy. That’s a big, powerful wave for an advanced reef, and it’s a Sunday. For experts only. It’s also a spot that's "often" crowded, so expect company.
The true hidden gem is the final day, Monday the 27th of July. We get a 4ft south swell (8 seconds) with 182 energy, but the wind is dead calm – glassy. That morning will be as clean as it gets, even if the waves are a bit ordinary. That's your best window if you can find a peak.
So, to put it plain: the next two weeks are a bust. Don't even think about it until the 25th. The 26th has some serious power for the brave, and the 27th morning is pure glass. It’s a long, empty forecast, but sometimes that’s just how it goes.
Rusty.
