Monahans Dock Surf Guide

Monahans Dock in Rhode Island is a sheltered reef break that has quite consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. Works best in offshore winds from the west with some shelter here from northeast winds. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the east southeast. Left and better right hand reef breaks.. The quality of the surf isn't affected by the tide. Likely to be crowded if working. Submerged rocks are a hazard.

“First surfed it Hurricane Leo, 1975. Crowded and drop-ins from Peter Pistachio crew and Dave Levinhead; waited hr and got a wide-swinging 10 feet eastern pk that snuck by; barelled all the way past jetty. It's heavy because of terrible manners of surfers there and rip. Winter fewer and better crowd; Can imagine it can hold bigger than 10 feet, but short shelf stops it. Better to sneak around corner to south breaks of Rincon and others.Forget the longboard and SUP crap!”
