Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lighthouse over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty grim start. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing much worth paddling out for. The first week and a half is mostly flat, small, and messy. It’s not until Tuesday, July 21st, that we finally see a pulse of real energy, but even then, it’s not straightforward.
The standout window, and really the only one worth circling on the calendar, is Tuesday, July 21st. We’ve got a solid push of swell coming in from the SSE, with heights hitting 8 ft in the morning and building to 10 ft in the afternoon. That’s serious size, folks. This is expert-only territory. The combined energy is strong (530 in the morning, 893 in the afternoon). The period is a short 7 seconds though, so it’s a windswell, not a clean groundswell. The wind is onshore from the E to SE, which will keep it a bit lumpy. This is a big, raw, and powerful ocean, not a day for the faint of heart.
Before that, we have a few moments of cleaner conditions but with tiny waves. Wednesday, July 15th, offers some hope with moderate offshore winds from the WNW at 12 mph and a clean 4 ft swell from the SW. It’s surfable, but the energy is weak (97 in the morning). A longboard or a funshape would be the call.
After the big Tuesday, the swell drops off but stays lively. Friday, July 24th, has some potential with a 5 ft S swell (period 8 seconds) and light cross-shore winds in the afternoon. The energy is moderate (294), and the conditions look a lot more manageable. It’s a marginal day, but compared to the rest of the week, it’s probably the next best bet.
Water temps are about average for this time of year, so no need for a super thick wetsuit.
The rest of the 16 days is a write-off. Long gaps of poor surf, strong onshores, or just no energy. It’s a tough run for the Point Judith area.
This is Rusty, signing off.
