Alright, let’s talk surf, surfers. This is Rusty, and for the Point Judith Lighthouse area, the next couple of weeks are a story of patience. We’ve got a big, fat gap of nothing decent for about eight days straight, starting Thursday the 2nd of July through to maybe Thursday the 9th of July. Just weak, small wind swell with combined energy barely cracking 84, and the wind’s a mess—cross-off but too strong for clean waves. Forget the paddle, leave the board in the car.
But then, the payoff. Two real standouts show up on the long-range.
First real deal is the Saturday morning of July 11th. A proper groundswell arrives, 2.4m from the SSW with a 9-second period. Combined swell energy hits a beefy 939. That’s proper, powerful water moving. And the wind goes offshore from the west—gentle, clean, glassy. For a reef and point break, that’s magic. That size is expert territory, so leave the beginners on the beach, but if you’ve got the chops, this is your session. Water temp is about average for the time of year at 68°. No funny business there.
Second window is the Wednesday morning of July 15th. Another SSW swell, this one 2.0m with a 7-second period and combined energy of 720. Again, clean conditions with a light cross-off breeze from the WSW. Still a hearty, expert-sized swell. Catch the early window because it’ll drop and get windier by the afternoon.
In between those, it’s flat or small and weak. The afternoon of July 8th is glassy but with a tiny 1.3m SE swell—nice to look at, not much to ride. Same for the morning of July 12th, all glass but barely a bump.
So here’s the call: skip the first eight days. Circle Saturday the 11th and Wednesday the 15th. Those are the days. Expect some company at the Lighthouse—when it’s good, everyone knows.
See you out there when it’s worth it.
