The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Lighthouse (Point-Judithlighthouse). It’s a reef and point setup, exposed to the south, so it needs a decent southerly kick to get moving. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual there.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but honestly, there’s not much to get excited about for the first few days. Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th offer small, weak swell. The standout is Monday morning, the 20th, with clean, glassy conditions. The swell is tiny at 3 ft from the south, and the combined energy is low (90). It’s not a wave you’d paddle out for, but if you’ve got a longboard and you’re desperate, it’ll be the cleanest of the small stuff.
The real hope comes on Wednesday the 22nd. We’ve got a solid pulse of swell pushing in, with heights around 7 ft to 7 ft from the south. The combined energy is strong (616 to 775), so there’s real power. The wind is cross-offshore from the SW, keeping things clean. This is a bigger, more powerful wave, and over 7 ft, it’s really only for experienced surfers. The period is short though, around 7 to 9 seconds, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and less organised than a true groundswell, but the reef and point will handle it better than a beach break.
Thursday morning the 23rd is the best of the whole run. Swell holds at 6 ft from the south, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is still strong (586), and the wind swings light out of the north, giving us a clean, cross-off breeze. The conditions are set to be very good. This is the one to circle on the calendar. After that, the swell drops off quickly. Friday the 24th sees 4 ft from the SSE, but with a light onshore breeze, it’s not as clean. The combined energy is moderate (276).
From Saturday the 25th all the way through to the end of the first week of August, the surf goes flat or near flat. There are gaps of several days with no real recommendations. The swell drops to under 3 ft, and the energy is weak. There’s a brief pulse around Tuesday the 28th of July, with 5 ft from the SSW, but the wind is cross-off, so it’s just surfable, not special. The combined energy is moderate (176). Then it fades again.
Into the second week, we’ve got a small uptick on Sunday the 2nd of August. It’s 3 ft from the south, with a light cross-off breeze and weak energy (91). It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about. Monday the 3rd of August is glassy and tiny at 2 ft. Don’t expect much.
The true standout is Thursday the 23rd of July, morning session. That’s the best of the swell, with clean conditions. Wednesday the 22nd is also a good option for those who can handle the size. Everything else is small, weak, or blown out. Keep your eyes on that Thursday morning.
Rusty.
