Table - best surf conditions forecast for Marlin over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s paddle out and have a look at what’s coming our way.
Right off the bat, the only real window of opportunity is a very short one. We’ve got a long stretch of flat or blown-out conditions ahead, so you need to be ready to move when it’s on. The standout is a quick Wednesday morning session at Marlin. Early on July 8th, the wind goes glassy out of the east at just 3 mph, and we’ve got a clean 3 ft south swell rolling in with a period of 12 seconds. That’s a nice bit of groundswell energy, and the combined energy of all swells directed here is 347 – solid moderate power. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there. This is the best we’ll see for a while – glassy conditions and a fun-sized, long-period swell will make for some clean, lined-up waves. Crowds are possible here on a morning like that, so get in early.
After that Wednesday morning, it’s a real bummer. The wind swings onshore and the swell gets messy. Thursday through Monday all show poor surf conditions with cross-onshore breezes and choppy faces. The swell height tries to push to 4 ft on Thursday, but the wind kills it. By the following week, the energy drops right off with combined swell energy values in the low hundreds and even dipping below 100 – that’s weak stuff. There’s a seven-day stretch from the 14th to the 20th where nothing is worth paddling out for with these onshore winds and tiny swells. You might see a small bump of 3 ft on the 16th, but the onshore wind will have it blown to bits.
Beyond that, into the third week of July, the models keep showing the same story: small, weak S-SSE swells with onshore or cross-onshore winds. Nothing is going to clean up. This is a pretty blank run for the area – we’ve got one good morning and then a whole lot of nothing. Stay tuned, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
