The Lowdown
Rusty here, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Marlin’s looking like a total bust for the next 16 days. Every single session from Tuesday 14 July right through to Wednesday 29 July is tagged as poor surf conditions – not a single standout, not one good wave in the mix. That’s a long dry spell for a break that’s normally consistent, but sometimes the ocean just shuts down like this around here. Forecasts can change, so don’t write it off completely, but for now, leave the board at home.
We kick off Tuesday 14 July with tiny 2 ft swell from the SE, period 10 seconds, cross-on wind from the ENE at 6 mph. Combined energy is weak (86). Water temp sits at 79° – pretty normal for this time of year. Afternoon stays poor with a bit more energy but still rubbish.
Wednesday 15 July jumps to 8 ft from the SSE, period 8 seconds, but cross-on wind cranks to 19 mph. Combined energy hits 809 – moderate, but the wind and short period make it a lumpy, messy mess. Not beginner-friendly at all (over 5 ft), and it stays ugly into the afternoon.
Thursday 16 through Friday 17 sees swell hanging around 6–7 ft, mostly SE/SSE, period 7–11 seconds. Winds remain cross-on from the SSE/SE at 12–16 mph. Energy moderate to strong (405–1758). Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 have some onshore wind and lumpy conditions, with swell dropping to 5–7 ft. Nothing clean.
The whole of the second week – from Monday 20 July onward – is more of the same: swell around 4–6 ft, mostly ESE/SE, period 7–9 seconds, onshore or cross-on breezes. Energy stays weak to moderate (205–467). One tiny glimmer on Wednesday morning 29 July: a marginal 5 ft swell with light onshore wind from the E at 6 mph, rated 1 out of 10. Still poor, but maybe the only hint of something vaguely rideable if you’re desperate. Afternoon’s back to poor.
Bottom line: no good surf anywhere in the 16-day window. For a consistent spot like Marlin, that’s rare, but it happens. Keep an eye on it – things can turn around quick.
