Table - best surf conditions forecast for Marlin over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let's have a look at what's coming our way.
Straight up, it's a grim picture for the next couple of weeks. We are looking at a long stretch of poor conditions, with nothing really worth paddling out for. The first real chance of any surf doesn't show up until Saturday, July 26th, and even then it's only a marginal call. That's a solid 15-day gap with no recommendations.
Marlin is the only spot on the radar, and it's a beginner-friendly, consistent break exposed to the south. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual there. The long-range outlook for Saturday, July 26th morning shows a bit of a pulse, with some chest-high swell around 4ft coming from the ESE, but the period is a short and weak 7 seconds, giving it a low energy reading (232). The wind looks light and onshore, which won't do it any favours.
The issue here is the onshore winds. From now until then, it's a constant parade of cross-onshore and onshore breezes, mostly from the SSE and ESE, keeping the waves chopped up and messy. We do see a bit of a spike in swell around Thursday, July 16th and Friday, July 17th, with energy readings up in the four-digit range (1641), meaning some solid, powerful swell is around. But the wind is just no good, and the wave comment is "poor surf conditions" across the board. With that much swell and strong onshore wind at a beach setup, it’s looking more like a session for the kite surfers than the paddle crew.
For now, keep your gear in the car and don't get your hopes up. The forecast can always change, but this one's looking like a long blank run.
Rusty.
