Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's on the table for Marlin.
To be straight with you, it’s a tough start. The forecast through the 16-day window is pretty grim. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor surf conditions, with no real standouts to get excited about. The first few days are a write-off.
From July 6th right through to the 10th, the wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, and the wave comment is "poor surf conditions" across the board. The swell is small, mostly under 4 ft, and the period is short, around 8 to 12 seconds. The combined swell energy is moderate, hitting values like 174 and 448, but it doesn't matter when the wind is ruining it. It’s just choppy and messy.
The situation doesn't improve much in the following days. July 11th shows a glimmer with a longer period of 13 seconds and a combined energy of 511, but the wind is still cross-onshore, keeping the score low. The 12th through the 14th are more of the same: small, short-period swell with onshore or cross-onshore winds.
Then, on July 15th, we finally get a morning of glassy conditions. The wind is from the east at 3 mph, and the report says "glassy." But the swell is tiny, only 1 ft with a combined energy of just 42. It’s a flat, glassy lagoon. Not worth paddling out for.
The second week gets a bit more interesting, but not in a good way for surfers. On July 16th, the swell jumps up to 8 ft to 8 ft from the SSE with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is strong at 748 to 826. But the wind is a fresh cross-onshore at 16 to 19 mph, with a risk of thunderstorms. This setup is more suited for kite surfing than paddle surfing. It’s too big and choppy for beginners, and the short period makes it a lumpy, blown-out mess for experts.
The rest of the week, from July 17th to the 21st, continues with moderate to fresh cross-onshore winds and poor surf conditions. The swell sizes vary from 3 ft to 5 ft, but the wind never lets up. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
In short, we’ve got a 16-day window with no real surf to recommend. The conditions are consistently poor, with bad wind and small, short-period swell. The only "glass" day is too flat. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s not unusual. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board at home.
Rusty.
