Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down what Marlin’s got for us over the next couple weeks. I gotta be honest—there’s not one real standout in this whole 16-day stretch. The scoreboard is pretty much empty, so we’re really reaching for anything.
The first little bit of surf shows up Tuesday morning, July 7th. We’re looking at a tiny 3ft swell out of the ESE with a period of 8 seconds—short-period wind swell, not much push. Combined energy is a weak 186, so barely any power. But the wind is the big win here: glassy, dead calm out of the SSE at just 3 mph. That means clean, smooth conditions, even if the waves are pretty ordinary. It’s a beginner-friendly spot and consistent, so if you’re learning, you might snag a few fun little ones. Water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing crazy.
From there, it’s a long, tough slog. Tuesday afternoon kicks up a cross-onshore breeze, and the swell drops to 2ft. Wednesday through Friday are all buggered by cross-onshore or onshore winds, with the swell bouncing between 3ft and 4ft—still small, and the combined energy climbs to 548 by Thursday morning, but the onshore wind just kills any shape. The period gets up to 13 seconds Thursday morning, hinting at some longer-period groundswell, but with the wind blowing on it, it’s a mess.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th show a bit more energy—combined energy hits 614 on Saturday morning—but again, wind is cross-onshore or onshore, and the swell is only 4ft to 4ft. Marginal at best, not worth getting worked up over. For the whole first week, it’s all "marginal" or "poor."
The second week is even worse. Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th is tiny—1ft to 3ft—with weak energy readings in the double and low triple digits. Wind is all over the place, cross, cross-onshore, and even risk of thunderstorms. Honestly, it’s more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing with those onshore winds and small, choppy waves.
Thursday the 16th through the following week sees a pulse of bigger swell—5ft to 6ft—but the period is short, around 7 to 12 seconds, and it’s all under onshore winds. Combined energy finally climbs into the 600s and 800s, so there’s some power, but it’s all onshore slop. By Sunday the 19th, the swell is 5ft with 12 mph onshore winds—choppy, unruly, and only for the ones who don’t mind a hammering. The last few days, Monday the 20th through Wednesday the 22nd, stay in that 4ft to 6ft range, but the wind never lets up. It’s a long, poor run.
Bottom line: there ain’t a single session here I’d call a standout. The best of a bad bunch is that glassy Tuesday morning with the tiny 3ft swell—clean but weak. If you’re desperate, that’s your window. Otherwise, this is a classic blank run for the area; it usually doesn’t stay poor for long, and forecasts can change, so keep your eyes peeled. But right now, it’s a tough one.
Rusty.
