Table - best surf conditions forecast for Marlin over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you.
Looking at the next 16 days for Marlin, it’s a tough stretch. The overall pattern is one of relentless cross-onshore or onshore winds and poor surf conditions that just don’t let up. The swell energy is there at times, but the quality is hammered by the wind. For the first week, from Thursday the 9th right through to Wednesday the 15th, we’re looking at a grim run of poor surf. The swell is small to moderate, with combined energy ranging from a weak 100 to a moderate 546, but every single session is written off by the wind. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual there.
The first real spark of hope doesn’t show up until the second week. On Friday the 17th of July, we see a bump in size. The morning brings a 5 ft swell from the SSE, with a period of 11 seconds. That’s a decent groundswell, but the wind is a moderate cross-onshore from the SE at 12 mph, making it choppy. The combined energy is a solid 656, which is moderate to strong, but the wind just ruins the shape. The afternoon is similar, 5 ft, but still cross-onshore. This is pure paddle-surf torture, but for someone with a kite, it might actually look interesting.
The only standout I can see in the whole window is on Thursday the 24th of July. The morning brings a 7 ft swell from the ESE, combined energy of 556. That’s a significant bump in size, but it's a short-period swell at 8 seconds, and the wind is still onshore from the ESE at 9 mph. The forecast calls it marginal, and that’s being generous. At 7 ft with a short period, it’s going to be a bumpy, closed-out mess at a beach break. Definitely not for beginners, and even for experts, the wind and short period will make it ugly. It’s the best of a bad bunch, but it’s a long way off and the wind needs to change.
Honestly, for the next 16 days, I’d be looking for another hobby. The forecast is a long, blank run of poor quality. For an area like this, it’s a normal part of the season, but it doesn’t make it any easier to swallow. The wind is the enemy here, and it doesn’t look like it’s backing off.
Rusty.
