The Lowdown
Alright, mate, let’s cut to the chase. This 16-day outlook is a real bummer for a surfer. The wind is the enemy the whole time, and the waves just can’t get clean. The water is 79°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year.
Kicking off on Sunday, August 23rd at Marlin, we’ve got a tiny 3ft swell from the east, but the wind is onshore and the energy is weak (107). It’s a washout. Monday and Tuesday are the same story – small, choppy junk. Tuesday morning sees a little bump to 4ft, but it’s still cross-onshore with a period of 7 seconds, just a bumpy mess.
Wednesday, August 26th, the swell period jumps to 14 seconds from the south, giving a combined energy of 331. But the wind is onshore again, so that 2ft of potential is blown to bits. Thursday morning, August 27th, is the closest we get to a “maybe.” The swell is 3ft from the south, with a very long period of 17 seconds, pumping out 696 energy. The wind is cross-onshore, so it’s choppy and only marginal. That long period groundswell will run straight at a beach break like Marlin, not ideal.
From Friday, August 28th, right through to the end of the forecast, it’s a windy, choppy mess. The wind is a constant cross-onshore, sometimes hitting 15 mph, and the swell direction keeps changing. There’s a bit more size on September 5th with 6ft from the south, but the wind is still cross-onshore and the energy is moderate (549). For a beginner spot, that’s too big with poor conditions. The whole setup looks more suited for a kite surfer than someone with a paddle.
No single session stands out here. The wind ruins it all. If you’re really keen, the Thursday morning on the 27th of August is the only time with a hint of promise, but it’s a long shot with the wind.
