The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get real about the surf outlook for Marbella - Playa del Cable.
Honestly, mate, it’s a tough stretch ahead. The next week and a half is looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long gap of nothing happening, with almost no worthwhile swell to speak of until the very end of the period. The water is sitting at 68°, which is a solid 4° colder than usual for this time of year – a bit of a shock to the system if you’re used to warm summer swims.
The first real pulse of energy doesn’t show up until Saturday, July 25th. That morning, the wind is glassy and you’ll see a tiny 3ft swell from the WSW, but the energy is still weak (41). The afternoon is where things get interesting, but not for paddling. The swell jumps to 6ft, with a combined energy of (171), but it’s coming with a gusty cross-onshore wind. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a clean surf session. The swell period is a short 6 seconds, so it’ll be messy and choppy.
The only real standout for a paddle session comes on Sunday, July 26th, in the morning. The wind turns light and cross-offshore, cleaning up a 4ft swell from the WSW. The combined energy is moderate (78), and the conditions are described as "surfable waves but very ordinary." It’s not going to be epic, but it’s the best you’ll find. The break is exposed and inconsistent, and it’s for beginners, but the afternoon turns windy and onshore, so get in early.
After that, it’s back to flat or tiny, weak swells for the rest of the forecast. Nothing else worth chasing.
Stay patient, and keep an eye on the forecasts—things can change.
Rusty.
