Table - best surf conditions forecast for Higgins Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s look at what’s coming up for Higgins Beach.
Truth is, mate, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and quiet. There’s really nothing on the cards that’s worth getting excited about. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a write-off for decent surf. We’ve got a long gap ahead with hardly any real swell to speak of, and the little bumps that do show up are going to be pretty weak and messy.
Right from the start, Thursday the 9th, we’re looking at a tiny 3ft swell from the ESE with a short 8-second period. Combined energy is low, only 95, and the wind is cross-shore at 6 mph, so it’s not doing anyone any favours. That’s going to be a tough paddle for not much reward.
Friday the 10th is even smaller, dropping to 2ft and then 2ft, with the wind swinging onshore. The energy just isn’t there. The weekend, Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th, is almost flat – only 1ft from the SE, with a period of 10 seconds. That’s barely a ripple. Combined energy is down in the 20s and 30s.
Monday the 13th is a bit of a nothing day, still tiny, and then on Tuesday the 14th we get a slight bump to 4ft from the SSW in the morning, with a period of only 6 seconds. That’s weak, wind-affected stuff, and combined energy hits 122, so it’s at least moderate energy, but the quality is still rated poor. The wind is cross-offshore at 16 mph, so it’ll be clean, just not any kind of wave you’d want to drive for.
After that, it just fades away again. Wednesday the 15th sees a clean offshore wind from the NW at 12 mph, but only 2ft of swell. Thursday the 16th is more of the same. The only real highlight is Friday the 17th morning – glassy conditions, no wind, but the swell is a pathetic 1ft from the SSE with a period of just 5 seconds. You could almost see it as a morning for a longboard if you were desperate and the tide was right, but don’t expect to get wet.
The rest of the run into the third week of July stays tiny, with not a single day producing anything over 3ft. The best you get is a few mornings with glassy or clean conditions, but there’s simply no swell to work with.
It’s a tough outlook. The water temperature is sitting at 66°F, which is 4° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a notable difference, more like a mild summer than a normal July.
Honestly, this stretch looks better for a paddle on a flat day or maybe a bit of kite surfing when the wind picks up on the 13th and 14th, because paddle surfing just isn’t going to happen.
Rusty.
