Table - best surf conditions forecast for Higgins Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, let me have a look at what we’ve got here for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it’s a bit of a flat spell for the most part, so we’re gonna have to be patient. The only spot in the frame is Higgins Beach, and the forecast is mostly small, weak, and messy. There’s a long dry stretch from now until nearly the end of the month before we see anything remotely worth a paddle.
Right now, starting Saturday morning, July 11th, we’ve got nothing but tiny 1 ft slop out of the southeast with a short, weak 10-second period, and combined energy is a measly 31 (weak). Wind is a light cross-onshore from the east, so the surface is bumpy. Water temp is sitting at 66°F, which is about 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s much warmer than normal, so you can leave the thick rubber at home. But seriously, it’s just poor conditions. Saturday afternoon, Sunday, Monday… all the same story: 1 ft to maybe 4 ft of junky, short-period swell with cross-onshore winds and choppy faces. Not worth getting wet.
Tuesday the 14th sees a tiny bump to 2 ft from the south, still weak with periods around 5 seconds, but the wind goes cross-offshore in the afternoon from the west-southwest. That cleans things up a little, but with combined energy around 29 (weak), it’s still just ankle-biters. Wednesday and Thursday mornings bring some gentle offshore flow from the northwest and west-northwest, which makes the water glassy, but the swell is barely there – less than 1 ft with very long-period stuff (14-15 seconds) that just doesn’t have any push. Combined energy is down to 11-15 (extremely weak). It’s pretty, but not surfable.
We then hit a real dead zone from around July 18th through the 23rd. A few days with no recommendations at all. The swell tries to pick up a bit on Saturday the 25th – we see 3 ft from the southeast with a 7-second period and combined energy hitting 133 (moderate) in the afternoon. Winds go light offshore from the north-northwest, so conditions are actually clean. That Saturday afternoon might be the one small window – surfable but still very ordinary. Not a standout, just the best of a bad lot.
Finally, the last chance in the window comes on Sunday morning, July 26th. We’ve got around 3 ft from the south, period only 5 seconds, combined energy at 73 (weak). Wind is light cross-shore from the east-northeast, so it’s not blown out but not clean either. Still, it’s small and weak. Nothing to get excited about.
Overall, there are no true standouts here. The best on offer is probably the short window on Saturday the 25th afternoon, with a clean 3 ft wave and light offshore wind. But even that is marginal. For a spot like Higgins Beach, a blank run like this is pretty normal for this time of year. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board in the car and enjoy the warm water.
