Table - best surf conditions forecast for Happys over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s cooking for the next couple of weeks, and I gotta be honest, it’s a lean stretch. Don’t get your hopes up too high.
Right out of the gate, it’s a total mess. We’ve got strong cross-shore winds and lumpy, poor-quality surf through the middle of the week. There’s some energy – a strong 1291 (moderate to strong) on Wednesday morning – but it’s wasted with that wind. The swell is a southeast 7ft, but it's ugly. Don't even think about it until the weekend.
If you're patient, there’s a little window. Saturday, July 11th morning, we might get a brief reprieve. The wind swings light and cross-offshore from the SSW, and the water cleans right up. The swell has dropped off though, down to a 3ft from the southeast with a period of 11 seconds. The wave energy is weak (230). It’s surfable, but just barely. If you're really jonesing, that's your first real shot at a clean wave.
The actual standout – and I’m being generous – is Sunday, July 12th. This is the day. We get a solid offshore wind from the west, 9 mph, keeping the surface glassy and clean from morning to night. The swell is tiny again, 3-3ft from the east-southeast, with a period around 10-11 seconds. The energy is weak (144-180), so no power behind it, but on a point break like ours, that clean, calm water is everything. It’ll be small, but it'll be the best fun you'll have all forecast. The water temp is running 69°, which is a bit cooler than usual for this time of year, so you might want a little extra rubber.
After that little weekend blip, Monday the 13th through the end of the run goes totally flat and tiny. We’ll get some days with clean, offshore winds, but the swell is just too small – we're talking 1 foot or less with almost no energy. It’s a long, quiet spell. No big pulses coming in, just a whole lot of nothing.
So here's the bottom line: don't stress about it. The only window worth paddling out for is the weekend, and Sunday is the pick of a very poor bunch. For the rest of it, kick back and wait for the next one.
Rusty.
