Table - best surf conditions forecast for Happys over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s break down what’s heading for Happys.
The first few days are pretty weak. Waves are small, mostly under 3 ft, with an east-southeast swell. Water temp is about 69°, a touch cooler than usual, but nothing wild. The wave energy is low to moderate, with combined energy readings in the low hundreds dropping to single digits by midweek. Not much happening.
Saturday morning the 11th is your best early option. Clean 3 ft waves from the SE, with a period around 11 seconds, and a nice cross-off breeze. It’s surfable, but nothing special. The afternoon gets onshore and messy.
Sunday the 12th is similar – small and clean, but ordinary. Swell stays around 3 ft, ESE, with a cross-off wind.
From Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th, the swell disappears. We’re talking 2 ft down to 1 ft, with combined energy in the teens and twenties. Wednesday afternoon sees a gusty cross-on wind hitting 19 mph, but the swell is only 2 ft with a period of 4 seconds – just wind chop.
Thursday the 16th brings a big change. A strong SE swell builds, but with a strong southerly wind. By Thursday morning we’re at 8 ft, and by the afternoon it’s 11 ft, with combined energy jumping to 2720 (strong). The problem is the wind is cross-shore and messy, so the quality is poor. This is for experts only, and even then, it’s a struggle.
Friday the 17th stays big, around 10 ft, with strong cross-shore wind. High energy, but lumpy and rough. Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th are similar – 10 ft to 11 ft, strong cross-shore winds, and combined energy hitting 3915 on Sunday morning. That’s very strong, but the wind is ruining it. For a setup like Happys, this looks more like a kite-surfing day than a paddle day.
Monday the 20th sees the swell ease to 8 ft, with a longer period of 12 seconds. The wind is lighter, but still cross-shore or cross-on. Marginal quality, but cleaner than the weekend. Tuesday the 21st is the real standout. Morning has 7 ft, 12-second period, and a clean cross-off wind from the SW. The afternoon is even better: 7 ft, 12-second period, cross-off, and combined energy around 1108 (moderate). That’s the sweet spot. It’s big enough for intermediates, but clean and well-shaped. The swell direction is ESE, not the ideal NE for Happys, but with that wind and period, it’ll still produce some good waves.
After that, the swell drops off. Wednesday the 22nd has 5 ft, clean in the morning, but the wind turns cross-shore in the afternoon. Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th are smaller and messier. Then Saturday the 25th morning goes glassy with 5 ft, but the period is short at 8 seconds – not much power.
Finally, Sunday the 26th morning brings another promising session: 7 ft, 11-second period, glassy conditions, and combined energy at 1704 (strong). That’s a solid groundswell with clean conditions. The afternoon turns cross-on, so get it early. This one is a bit far out, so keep an eye on it, but it could be a good one.
So, the best bets are Tuesday the 21st for the clean, solid waves, and Sunday the 26th morning for a promising long-range option.
