Table - best surf conditions forecast for Happys over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s break down what we’ve got in real-world numbers. We’re looking at Happys, a sheltered little point break. The water is 69°F, which is a couple degrees cooler than we’d usually have in July, so you’ll want a good wetsuit.
The big story here is a long stretch of nothing before one decent window.
### The Dead Zone: July 12th to July 20th
There’s a huge eight-day gap with no good surf. From Sunday the 12th all the way through Monday the 20th, it’s either tiny waves or blown-out junk. The swell energy stays weak to moderate (under 100) for most of it, or when it does pick up, the wind ruins it completely. On Thursday the 16th, there’s a big spike of 8ft SE swell (energy of 1059), but it’s coming with a 30-35 mph cross-off wind and rain. Not rideable. By Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th, we get 6ft to 8ft of short-period SE swell, but the wind is howling cross-shore at 35-40 mph. That kind of messy, strong wind at a point break? That’s kite-surfing conditions, not a good paddle.
### The One Good Window: Tuesday, July 21st Morning
After all that waiting, Tuesday morning the 21st is your day. Happys will see a clean 4ft swell from the ESE with a nice 10-second period. The wind is a light 10 mph from the SSW, meaning cross-offshore – dead clean. The combined energy is 605, which is a solid, fun amount of push for a point. This is the only time in the entire 16-day forecast that gets called “good surf conditions.” It won’t be giant, but for a sheltered point, that’s a perfect size for a long, fun session. Get it while it lasts, because the wind swings onshore in the afternoon.
### After That
From Wednesday the 22nd through the end, we slide back to small conditions. Swell drops to 2ft to 4ft, but the wind turns cross or cross-onshore, and the energy fades away. By the 26th and 27th, you’re looking at tiny 2ft to 2ft waves with no real punch.
So, to sum it up: one true stand-out morning on the 21st. The rest is a waiting game. Keep an eye on the charts, because things can always shift.
