Table - best surf conditions forecast for Happys over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for this stretch. It's a bit of a tough one, I gotta be honest with you.
We're starting with a blank run, I'm afraid. The first surfable moment we get is not until the morning of Saturday the 22nd of August. That’s a solid few days with nothing worth paddling out for. The early part of the week is a write-off with poor surf and cross-onshore winds messing everything up.
Saturday morning the 22nd is where we finally see something. Happys will have a small 3ft swell from the east with a short period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is weak at 117, so it's not packing much punch. The big win here is the wind: it's glassy. That means the surface will be clean, even if the waves are tiny and weak. It's surfable, but very ordinary.
Sunday the 23rd morning is similar, with a 3ft swell from the east-northeast, an 8-second period, and again glassy conditions with calm wind. The energy is still weak at 103. It's a small, clean wave for a longboard or a funboard, but nothing to get excited about.
Now, the standout window, such as it is, is that Saturday morning the 22nd. It's not a classic by any stretch, but the combination of that glassy wind and the only real window of ridable waves in the first week makes it the best on offer. The swell is small and weak, but it will be clean. For a point break like Happys, that’s your best bet for a few cruisy waves without getting chopped up.
After that, the surf drops off even more. From Sunday afternoon all the way through to the end of the period, we’re looking at mostly poor conditions with weak, small swell and onshore or cross-onshore winds. There's a brief moment on the morning of Wednesday the 26th of August with another glassy morning and a tiny 3ft swell, but the energy is almost nothing at 78. Not really worth the effort. The second week is just a flat, choppy mess.
The water at Happys is sitting at 68°F, which is about two degrees colder than usual for this time of year. It’s a bit nippy, but nothing crazy.
So, to sum it up: we’ve got a dry spell for the first few days, then a couple of small, clean windows on Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd mornings. The standout is that Saturday morning for the glassy conditions. After that, it’s a long, slow fade into small, sloppy surf. Don't expect much.
Rusty.
