The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break it down. This is Rusty, and I’m looking at the outlook for Happys.
The 16-day window starts with a blank run. There’s nothing worth paddling out for in the first week and a half, so you’re looking at a solid 10 days of poor surf conditions. The energy is just not there, and when it does show up, the wind is a mess. It’s a frustrating stretch, but things could shift.
Things finally start to look a little more interesting around the 24th of July. On the morning of Friday the 24th, we’ve got a clean little 4ft swell from the east, with a light SSW cross-offshore breeze. The period is short at 8 seconds, so it’s not going to be punchy, but the conditions are clean. The combined energy is weak (210), so temper expectations. It’s a small, ordinary wave, but at least you won’t be fighting the wind.
The standout of the whole period, if you can call it that, is the morning of Sunday the 26th. Again, small at 4ft from the east, but the wind is light SSW cross-offshore, and the conditions are clean. The period is even shorter at 6 seconds, so it’s a bit of a weak, choppy little wave, but it’s clean. The combined energy is still weak (219). It’s not going to be a classic, but it’s the best you’ll get.
For the very end of the window, the afternoon of the 1st of August, there’s a glassy moment with a 6ft swell from the southeast. The period is short at 7 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate (338). The swell is from the southeast, which is cross-shore for this spot, and with glassy conditions, it could be rideable. It’s an ordinary wave, but the glassy conditions make it a possibility.
The water temperature at the start is 69°F, which is about normal for this time of year.
If you’re keen, the 24th, 26th, and 1st of August are your only windows. The rest is a write-off.
Rusty.
