Table - best surf conditions forecast for Happys over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. Not gonna lie, this outlook for Happys is a tough one. We’ve got a long stretch ahead with very little to get excited about. The whole 16-day window is pretty flat and messy.
The water temperature is sitting at 69°F which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – you’ll feel that nip on the first duck dive.
We start off now, and honestly, from Friday the 10th of July right through until Tuesday the 21st of July, it’s a write-off. The swell is small, the wind is a cross-onshore mess, and we’ve got rain showers on and off. The combined swell energy is all over the place but mostly weak to moderate – the biggest reading we see is on the 18th of July, a 840 (moderate energy), but it’s paired with a fresh cross-onshore wind. The swell itself gets up to around 7 ft to 8 ft on the 16th, 17th, and 18th, but with those short periods (5 to 9 seconds) and that onshore wind, it’s just bumpy and lumpy. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle-surfing one. For the most part, you’re looking at poor surf conditions.
There is a tiny glimmer, but it’s not a standout. On Tuesday the 21st of July in the morning, we finally get a moment of peace. The wind goes glassy – zero wind from the SSE – and we’ve got a 5 ft swell from the east. The wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” The combined energy is 244 (moderate). It’s not big, and it’s not beautiful, but if you’re desperate, that’s your best chance for a clean, little wave.
After that, we get a couple more glassy mornings on the 22nd and 23rd of July, but the swell drops right off – down to 4 ft and 3 ft. The combined energy is weak (116-165). Same story on the 24th and 25th – a glassy or clean morning with tiny waves. Nothing to write home about.
So, the only window worth paddling out is that Tuesday the 21st of July morning. It’s small, it’s clean, and it’s surfable. Everything else is a skip. Keep your eye on the forecasts, things can change, but right now, don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
