Table - best surf conditions forecast for Happys over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
The short and sweet of it is that we're looking at a long, dry spell for the next two weeks. The first surfable day doesn't roll around until Sunday the 12th, and even then, it's nothing to write home about. We've got a solid week of poor conditions before that, with the 9th through the 11th being a total write-off. After that Sunday, it's back to the doldrums for several more days with very little energy. The only real beacon of hope is a pulse of swell showing up in the final days of the forecast, but that's a long way off.
The Wait for Waves
The only spot on the radar is Happys (point). The first glimmer of life comes on Sunday, July 12th. The morning session will see a tiny ESE swell of 3 feet at 11 seconds, with a light northwesterly breeze keeping it clean. The combined energy is weak (183), but it's clean. The afternoon holds similar 3 feet conditions with a light SW wind. It's small and ordinary, but for the first surf in days, it's something. The water is about average for the time of year.
After that, we're back to flatness. The 13th through the 22nd is a proper desert. The swell drops to barely a ripple, with combined energy values sinking into the double digits. There's clean windows in there, but you'd be better off on a longboard or a paddleboard. The morning of the 21st and the 22nd afternoon see some light offshore winds, but the swell is just too small to do anything with.
The Light at the End of the Tunnel
Now, the standout. Hold onto your boards for Thursday, July 23rd. The morning kicks off with a solid 6 feet SE swell, ramping up to 7 feet by the afternoon. The wind is fresh offshore from the west, which is a dream for that point. That's a big, clean swell with moderate energy (589 in the morning, 1066 in the afternoon). This is the one to circle.
Then, Friday, July 24th morning could be the pick of the entire period. We're looking at a 10 feet ESE swell with a 11-second period, combined energy hitting 1796 – that's a powerful pulse. With a light offshore breeze, it will be clean and heavy. At 10 feet, this is expert territory, and that long period groundswell will be throwing some serious power at the point. The afternoon sees the swell start to drop back to 8 feet, and the wind switches onshore, so the morning is the absolute window.
Forget the first two weeks. The only real standouts are the Thursday morning 23rd and the Friday morning 24th. The 24th is the bigger, cleaner, and more powerful of the two, but both are legitimate. The 23rd will be a bit more manageable for the strong intermediate, while the 24th is for the big dogs only.
Stay patient, and keep your eyes on the horizon. That late pulse is the one.
Rusty.
