Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kings Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be real about this one. I've been staring at the charts for Kings Beach, and the outlook for the next couple of weeks is... rough. We're looking at a long stretch of days where the surf just isn't gonna be worth paddling out for. It's not a total write-off, but you've gotta pick your moments.
The water temp is sitting at around 69°, which is a bit colder than we usually get at this time of year, so you might want the 4/3 for the first session out.
The only real window of opportunity is right at the start. Saturday morning (July 11th) is your best bet. We've got a small but fun clean-up swell coming from the SSE at about 2ft, with a period around 10 seconds. The combined swell energy is moderate (187). The wind is a light cross-onshore from the south at 3 mph, which will keep it from getting too messy. It's not going to be pumping, but it's surfable. The afternoon sees the swell bump up a touch to 3ft with a longer 12-second period (488 combined energy), but the easterly wind swings cross-on as well, so it's marginal.
Sunday (July 12th) sees the wind finally go offshore! The morning has a 3ft swell from the ESE with a clean WNW breeze at 9 mph. The combined energy is lower though (133). It's a surfable wave but pretty ordinary. The afternoon is similar with 2ft surf and lighter NW offshore wind.
After that, we hit a long dry spell. From Monday the 13th right through to Thursday the 23rd of July, the swell flatlines to 1ft or less for days at a time. The conditions are poor, with everything from glassy flatness to onshore wind. There's a nasty bump around the 16th and 17th where we get 7ft to 8ft of swell, but with onshore winds howling at 22 mph from the SSE and SE. The combined energy tops 1600, so there's plenty of power, but the wind-chop is going to make it a washing machine. That's more of a kitesurfer's setup than a paddle surfer's.
We do see a pulse of 3ft swell (with a long 12-second period) on Wednesday morning the 22nd, but winds are cross-onshore making it messy. The best of the second week is probably Thursday morning the 23rd, with a 2ft swell and a light cross-shore wind. It's marginal, just a 1 out of 10. For the rest of the fortnight, expect small, weak, and mostly messy conditions.
So, bottom line: if you want waves, be on it this Saturday or Sunday morning. After that, it's a long wait for something half-decent. A blank run like this is pretty normal for the area when the trade winds lock in and the swell goes quiet. Forecast can always change, but for now, that's the story.
Rusty.
