Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anne Street Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. It’s Rusty here, and I’ll tell you straight up: this stretch ahead is a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got some energy coming through, but a lot of it’s gonna be messy, and you’ll need to pick your moments.
We’re starting off on Wednesday the 8th of July with a solid 7ft southeasterly swell, but don’t get too excited yet. The wind is pumping from the SSE at 16 mph, straight cross-shore, and that’s gonna put a nasty cross-chop on the face. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on. The combined energy is strong at 2023 on Wednesday morning – plenty of push – but the quality just isn’t there for a good paddle. Honestly, with that much cross-breeze and a beach-reef setup, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than a clean surf session.
Thursday the 9th settles a bit. The swell drops to 5ft from the southeast in the morning, with a better cross-offshore breeze. The energy is still moderate (638), and it’s cleaning up – that’s a chance for a few if you’re desperate, but it’s still marginal.
Now, here’s where we get a little window. Saturday the 11th of July is the standout. The swell is a small 3ft from the southeast, but the wind? Glassy. Dead calm in the morning. That SSW breeze at just 3 mph – that is a rare treat. The combined energy is a modest 257, so it’s not a heavy day, but for a reef break like Anne Street Reef that is very consistent, with that glassy surface, you’re looking at clean, fun little waves. This is the best on offer, and crowds are possible here at times, so get in early.
Sunday the 12th keeps things interesting with a nice offshore wind (WSW at 12 mph) and a clean 3ft swell from the ESE. The period is 11 seconds, so it’s got a bit of shape. Another good morning for a longboard or a fish. The energy is light (200), but the conditions are sweet.
After that, the bottom drops out. From Monday the 13th right through to Thursday the 17th of July, the swell is tiny – between 1.0ft and 3ft – and the wind is mostly cross or cross-offshore. The energy values are all below 100, and the scores are rock bottom. It’s a proper lull.
Then we get a pulse from around Friday the 17th through to Tuesday the 22nd. Swells bump up to 4ft to 5ft from the southeast and east, but the wind is strong and cross-offshore (16 to 19 mph from the south). The combined energy gets back up to moderate (around 150-250), but the call is poor conditions the whole way. The period is short, around 6 to 8 seconds, so it’s all windswell and chop. Not worth paddling out unless you’re on a foil board.
There’s a potential glimmer on Tuesday the 21st of July morning – a 5ft ESE swell, light south breeze, clean. That’s promising, but still just a 2 out of 10. It’s a long way out, so take it with a grain of salt.
Bottom line: Saturday morning the 11th of July is your go. Glassy, clean, small but fun on the reef. Sunday morning the 12th is the backup. The rest of the 16-day run is mostly a write-off unless you’re chasing wind.
