The Lowdown
Alright, let’s see what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it’s a slow start, but there’s a couple of moments that might get you wet if you’re local and not too picky. The water’s around 68°, which is pretty normal for the time of year.
The first real chance to paddle out comes Tuesday morning, August 25th. We’ve got a small 3ft swell from the east, with a 8-second period. The wind is glassy – dead calm from the northeast. The combined energy is moderate at 139. It’s not going to blow you away, but it’ll be clean and small. It’s a beginner reef, so it’s a solid option for a learner. Just be aware that crowds are possible.
Wednesday morning, the 26th, is another glassy one, but the swell has dropped to 3ft. Still east, still 8 seconds. The energy is weak at 101. It’s surfable, but you’ll be scratching for a wave.
There’s a little pulse building as we head into September. By Tuesday morning, the 1st of September, the swell is up to 6ft from the east, with a short 7-second period. That’s the biggest we see, but the wind is a light cross-onshore. The combined energy jumps to 402, which is moderate, but the conditions are still poor. The swell is pushing in, but the wind is making a mess of it. Not the one to chase.
The best of the bunch, honestly, is Thursday morning, the 3rd of September. The swell is 4ft from the east-northeast, 8 seconds, and the wind is glassy from the east-southeast. The energy is 187 – moderate. It’s clean, small, and rideable. For a beginner, this is the session to mark on the calendar. The reef will handle it nicely, and with no wind, it’ll be the smoothest it’s gonna get all forecast.
Friday the 4th of September has a glassy morning too, but the swell drops to 3ft and the energy is similar. It’s still okay, but not as good as the day before.
After that, the second week really fades out. Swell drops below 3ft, energy gets weak, and the wind turns mostly onshore or cross-shore. By the 8th of September, we’re looking at 3ft and barely any energy. Nothing to write home about.
So, to sum it up: if you’re learning, aim for Tuesday morning the 25th of August, or better yet, that glassy Thursday morning the 3rd of September. The rest of the run is pretty flat or messy. It’s a quiet stretch.
