Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anne Street Reef over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for Anne Street Reef is a tough one. We’ve got a long stretch ahead with very little worth paddling out for, but there are a couple of windows that might just make it worth hanging onto your board.
Right now, the water’s sitting at 69° – that’s a touch colder than what you’d normally expect this time of year, so a good spring suit is the go.
We kick things off on Sunday the 12th of July. The afternoon sees glassy conditions with a tiny 3ft ESE swell, but the combined energy is weak (137) and it’s pretty ordinary. The next few days are grim – Monday the 13th morning has a clean 2ft swell, but it’s just not enough to get excited about. From there, the swell drops right off into nothingness Tuesday through Wednesday, with some ugly onshore winds and cross-chop. That’s a solid gap of several days with nothing worth recommending.
Thursday the 16th morning brings a bump – 6ft from the SSE, but the wind is howling at 19 mph from the south and the combined energy jumps to moderate (372). The conditions are still poor, and the afternoon sees 8ft from the SE, but with 22 mph winds and rain, it’s blown out. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are similar – big swell over 7ft, but the wind is strong and cross-off, making it messy. For a reef break, that’s not your friend. At 8ft on the Saturday afternoon with a 12-second period, this is expert-only territory, and the cross-off wind won’t help.
Honestly, the whole first week is a write-off. The swell sticks around but the wind never lets up.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Tuesday the 21st of July morning is our standout. The swell drops back to 4ft from the ESE, with a 10-second period and a light cross-off breeze at 6 mph from the south. The combined energy is moderate (605) and the conditions are clean. This is the best we’ve got – a proper window with shape and no chop. The set gaps will be manageable, and the reef will hold it together. Keep in mind crowds are *sometimes* a thing here, so you might see a few others paddling out. For a beginner-friendly reef like this, 4ft is perfect.
After that, the week tails off again. Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd are poor with onshore winds and messy conditions. Friday the 24th has a bit of swell but cross-onshore wind ruins it.
The last couple of days, Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th, offer tiny but glassy conditions – 2ft to 2ft swells with the occasional clean window. Combined energy is weak (below 150), but if you’re desperate for a longboard or a foamie, the glass on Sunday afternoon might be alright.
So, bottom line: don’t bother this week. If you can wait, Tuesday the 21st morning is the one to mark on the calendar.
Rusty.
