Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anne Street Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s coming up for Anne Street Reef. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag over the next couple of weeks, so let’s break it down.
The overall pattern starts quiet, with a few small bumps of swell, but nothing to write home about just yet. The first few days are going to be a struggle. Thursday and Friday (9th and 10th of July) are pretty grim. We’ve got some 4ft to 6ft swell from the ESE and SE, but it’s marred by cross-winds and moderate breezes. The wave energy is moderate, but the quality just isn’t there. The water temp is average for this time of year.
Saturday morning (11th July) looks like the first real chance. It’s not huge, only 3ft from the SE with a long 11-second period – that’s proper groundswell. The wind is a light cross-off, and the energy is moderate. For a reef break like this, that long period will be a blessing, giving shape and power. The surf is *clean*. This is the best on offer in the first week, but it’s not a standout.
We then hit a flat spell. From Sunday afternoon (12th) right through to the morning of Thursday 16th July, the swell drops away to nothing. There are a few tiny 1ft to 2ft waves, but honestly, they’re not worth paddling for. That’s about four days of near-flat conditions.
Now, things get interesting. Thursday the 16th of July brings a pulse of swell. Thursday morning we get 6ft from the SE at 8 seconds, with clean offshore winds from the WSW. The energy is moderate. That’s a solid, surfable size for all levels. Thursday afternoon jumps to 7ft from the SE with a short 7-second period. The wind stays clean offshore. It’s a bit of a windswell, but with those offshores, it’ll be fun.
But the true standout of this whole outlook is Saturday the 18th of July. Saturday afternoon we see a jump to a clean 7ft from the SE with a 10-second period. The combined energy here is massive – that’s strong wave energy. And the wind? Light offshore from the SSW, keeping it clean. For a reef break, this is prime. This swell is pushing towards the bigger side – over 5ft, so it’s getting a bit much for beginners, but experienced surfers will be frothing on the shape and power. Crowds are *sometimes* a thing here, so with swell like this, expect company.
Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th see the swell drop back down to 4ft and 2ft, but the wind stays clean and offshore, so those are good, smaller sessions for a quiet paddle.
After Monday, it flatlines again. From Tuesday the 21st all the way through to the end of the period on the 24th, we’re looking at tiny, poor surf. Most days are under 2ft with a mix of clean but weak conditions or onshore junk. Not worth the wettie.
So, for the best of the bunch: aim for Saturday afternoon (18th July) at Anne Street Reef. That’s the one with the size, the energy, and the light offshore wind.
Rusty, out.
