Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a hard look at what’s cookin’ for our local patch.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this 16-day run is a tough one. We’ve got a lot of days where the conditions just aren't coming together. The first surfable recommendation doesn’t kick in until the 7th of July, so there’s a long, flat gap right at the start. After that, it’s a real mixed bag with only one brief window that looks even half-decent.
We’re lookin’ at Anne Street Reef for the whole stretch.
Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th are a write-off. Small swell and funky winds. Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th see the swell jump up—pushing 6 ft to 8 ft from the ESE and SE—but the wind is howling cross-shore at 19 mph. That’s just gonna be a lumpy, choppy mess. Not worth paddling out for.
The one standout, and I mean the only real glimmer of hope, is Tuesday morning, July 7th. We’ve got a solid 8 ft swell rolling in from the SE. The combined energy is pumped up at (1046), so there’s plenty of grunt in the water. Now, this is a reef break, and that size is gettin’ into expert territory – well over 8 ft is for the pros, so 8 ft is on the edge for a lot of you. The wind is a clean cross-off at 16 mph, which will help keep the faces reasonably tidy. That morning is your only real shot, but be warned, this one's for experienced surfers only.
Wednesday the 8th through Thursday the 10th, the swell backs off below 5 ft, but the wind stays messy or calm but weak. The energy drops right off. There’s another long, quiet stretch from the 11th of July right through to the end of the forecast on the 18th. The swell barely breaks 2 ft for days on end, with some long-period stuff from the ESE offering almost no energy. We see periods over 15 seconds on the 17th, but with a swell height of just 0.3 ft to 0.7 ft, it’s a total non-event. Even when the wind goes offshore on the 17th, there’s just nothing to ride.
So, bottom line: if you’re a seasoned charger, you might snag a few on the 7th. For everyone else, this is a long, lean patch. It’s a bit of a blank run, but that’s how it goes in this area sometimes. Keep an eye on the charts, though; it won’t stay flat forever.
Rusty.
