Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anne Street Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a long look at what’s cookin’ for Anne Street Reef over the next couple of weeks. The water temp is sittin’ about average for the time of year, so nothin’ unusual to report there.
Right now, we’re in a flat spell. There’s nothin’ worth paddlin’ out for until maybe later in the period. The first few days are real small and weak, with the combined swell energy barely crackin’ 68 (weak) on Monday the 13th, and it’s a messy onshore wind with those tiny 2ft to 2ft waves. Tuesday and Wednesday are even worse—droppin’ down to 0.7ft with a combined energy of just 12 (weak). You’d be better off waxin’ your board and lookin’ at the horizon than tryin’ to make somethin’ out of nothin’ here. The whole first week is a write-off.
Now, Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th see the swell jump up, but it’s a bit of a trap. The combined energy climbs to 490 (moderate) then 699 (moderate) on Friday, with waves pushin’ 8ft from the ESE. That’s gettin’ big, but the problem is the wind. It’s howlin’ cross-shore at 22 mph, and the period is short at 7-8 seconds. That’s gonna be messy, lumpy cross-chop. Not a pretty picture for a reef break. The crowd factor is “sometimes,” but honestly, you won’t be fightin’ for waves—you’ll be fightin’ the wind. For most, it’s too blown out and too big; this setup looks more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers.
Saturday the 18th is still messy. Swell holds at 8ft from the ESE with the combined energy up to 1069 (strong), but that cross-wind is still blowin’ 19 mph. Wind and tide are questionable, and the reef will be unmanageable for most. Probably not your day.
Now, here’s the real standout—and I mean the only one worth markin’ on your calendar. Sunday the 19th of July. The swell peaks at 10ft from the ESE, with a combined energy of 1509 (strong). That’s a proper pulse. The period stretches to 10 seconds, so there’s some decent shape to it. The wind is cross-shore at 19-22 mph, but the forecast says wind and tide are favorable for this break. Still, I gotta be real with you—this is an expert-only day. 10ft on a reef is no joke. Beginners, stay on the beach. If you’re experienced and hungry, this has the potential to be the session of the fortnight. The crowd factor is “sometimes,” so you might get a few others out there, but the size will keep the crowds thin.
After that, things drop off again. Monday the 20th through Friday the 24th is a mix of moderate 4ft to 6ft swell, but the wind keeps switchin’ around and the combined energy stays in the moderate range (200-500 range). Not much to get excited about. The best chance for a clean, smaller wave comes on Saturday the 25th of July. The morning sees a light cross-offshore breeze from the WNW at 3 mph, with 4ft from the east. It’s glassy in the afternoon, with the wind goin’ dead calm and the combined energy at 335 (moderate). That’s a rare clean window for the beginner-to-intermediate crowd. It’s not gonna be epic, but it’ll be fun and uncrowded.
The last couple of days—the 26th through the 28th—are back to weak or onshore conditions. The combined energy drops below 100 (weak) by the 28th, and it’s just small, messy, or blown out.
To sum it up: The only true standout is Sunday the 19th for experts only, with a solid 10ft groundswell. If you’re after something smaller and clean, circle Saturday the 25th for a glassy afternoon. The rest of the window is pretty quiet—there’s about a week-long gap from the 13th to the 19th with nothin’ worth paddlin’ for, and then it fizzles again after the 21st.
Stay patient, and pick your window.
