Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let me break down this sixteen-day stretch for Anne Street Reef.
Right off the bat, it's a no-go. We've got lumpy 2.3m cross-shore chop and light rain – just ugly conditions. The combined wave energy is weak, and the water temperature is 20°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year. You'll want a thicker wetsuit if you're heading out later.
Things start to turn on Tuesday morning, the 7th of July, with a 1.8m southeast swell, but the wind is still messy. The real first standout hits on Wednesday morning, the 8th of July. We're looking at 2.1m swell from the southeast with a 12-second period – that's proper groundswell with good shape and power. The combined energy reads moderate, and the wind is cross-offshore and clean, so it'll be smooth as glass. At 7ft (2.1m), it's a bit big for beginners, but for everyone else, it's a great challenge.
Thursday the 9th of July morning holds a smaller 1.6m swell with a long 11-second period, clean conditions, and light offshore winds. It's less powerful, but the size is manageable for more surfers. This break is very consistent, so waves will keep rolling in.
After that, the swell fades. From Saturday the 11th of July, we get a run of tiny waves under 1m for several days. A flat spell, plain and simple.
The ocean kicks back to life on the 16th of July with a small 1.2m swell and a very short period, but the wind turns offshore, making it rideable despite the weak energy.
The second standout comes on Saturday the 18th of July in the afternoon. The swell jumps to 2.3m from the southeast with clean, fresh offshore winds. The energy builds and the wave power is real. This is for experienced surfers only – 8ft (2.3m) at a reef with a cross-off breeze can be serious business. If you've got the skill, it'll be a memorable session.
Sunday the 19th of July afternoon also looks solid – 1.8m from the east, light wind, and the forecast notes it should be good surf.
After that, the energy drops away again into the final days. Not much to write home about.
My top picks are Wednesday morning the 8th of July for that long-period groundswell and clean conditions, and Saturday afternoon the 18th of July if you're a confident surfer looking for some punch. Keep Sunday the 19th afternoon on your radar, too.
Rusty.
