Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let me have a look at what we’ve got coming up over the next couple of weeks for Anne Street Reef. I’ll break it down for you.
Right off the bat, the first few days are pretty lacklustre. Saturday the 4th starts off with some small, weak east swell around 2ft with a short period of 9 seconds and a bit of a cross-off breeze from the south. The water's sitting at 69°, which is about 3° colder than usual for this time of year – feels a bit nippy. It’s surfable but nothing to get excited about. That afternoon the wind swings more cross-shore, the period drops to 6 seconds, and the whole thing turns into a messy cross-chop. Not worth paddling out for.
Sunday the 5th through Tuesday the 7th sees the swell bump up a bit – around 5ft to 8ft from the southeast – but the period stays short at just 6-7 seconds, and we’ve got fresh cross-shore winds the whole time. This is choppy, lumpy, and just poor quality. The wave energy numbers are climbing into the hundreds and even over 600, but with that short period and onshore wind, you’re just battling whitewater. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if the wind holds.
Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th show a glimmer of improvement: the swell period jumps to 11 seconds – proper groundswell – with swell heights around 5ft to 6ft from the southeast. The morning wind is cross-off from the south, giving clean conditions. The wave energy is strong too, peaking near 900. But the forecast still calls it marginal, and the afternoon wind goes cross-shore again. If you can get out early Wednesday morning, that might be the best window in the first week. Still, it’s not a standout.
Friday the 10th through Sunday the 12th the swell fades fast – dropping below 3ft with short periods again. Light winds but no real surf to speak of.
Then from Monday the 13th right through to Saturday the 19th, it’s pretty flat. Swell heights mostly under 2ft, periods of 8-10 seconds, and very low combined energy (under 100). There're a couple of days with glassy conditions or offshore wind, but the swell just isn’t there. It’s a long gap of nearly a week with no real surfing.
But hold on – Sunday the 19th afternoon suddenly lights up. The data shows a solid 6ft swell from the SSE, 10-second period, and excellent conditions for experienced surfers. The combined energy jumps to over 1000 – strong wave energy. And the morning wind is light, staying cross-off from the south. This is the one true standout in the whole outlook. It’s far off – two weeks away – so keep an eye on the forecast, but if it comes together, Anne Street Reef will be firing. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, so expect a few others to have the same idea.
So bottom line: skip the first week of small, windy junk. Wednesday the 8th morning might give you a clean but average wave. The real prize is Sunday the 19th afternoon – mark your calendar, hope the swell holds, and get ready for some proper groundswell. With that 11-second period on a reef, it’ll have some push and shape. But it’s a long way out, so don’t book the day off just yet.
