The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let’s break down what’s coming for Anne Street Reef.
It starts slow – the first few days are tiny and poor, not worth wetting a suit. The water is 68°, a bit cooler than usual for this time of year, so plan for a thicker wetsuit.
Things get interesting on Thursday, July 16th, with a 8ft SE swell rocking in the morning. The period is a moderate 8 seconds, and the cross-off wind from the south keeps it clean. The energy is strong (714), but the call is marginal due to tide. The afternoon gets wild with a 10ft swell and strong cross-shore wind – that’s more for the kite crew than surfers.
The weekend of the 18th and 19th is blown out. The swell is big, over 8ft, but the wind is a mess, creating lumpy, choppy conditions. The energy on the 19th is massive (3387 to 4071), but it’s just not clean. Monday the 20th is the same story – too big for the break, even with favorable wind and tide.
The one to really get excited about is Sunday, July 26th morning. The swell drops to a fun 6ft from the ESE, with a long 12-second period – proper groundswell. The wind is light and offshore from the SW, and the energy is a solid 1000. The forecast says “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” That’s the session to wait for. The reef will be breaking clean, and with the right tide, it’ll be a good one.
Monday the 27th morning is a solid backup: light offshore, 5ft of E swell, 12-second period, and clean conditions.
The last day, Wednesday the 29th, looks glassy with a 3ft E swell, but it’s small. A nice morning surf if you’re not chasing size.
Rusty.
