Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anne Street Reef over the next 16 days.
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Anne Street Reef.
We’re looking at a pretty quiet start to the outlook, with a brief window of proper surf coming up. The water is sitting at 69°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want an extra layer if you’re heading out.
The first real chance to get wet is on Thursday afternoon, July 9th. The swell is 6 ft out of the SE with a period of 11 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate at 716. The problem is that wind is smashing in from the SSE at 16 mph, making it a cross-shore mess. It’s not really worth your time for a paddle.
Friday morning, July 10th, looks a bit more promising. The swell holds at 6 ft from the SE, period 10 seconds, and the energy is solid at 1062. The wind swings around to a cross-offshore breeze from the S at 12 mph, and the report says clean. It’s a marginal one, but if you’re keen, this could be your best early bet. The afternoon drops right off, though.
Saturday morning, July 11th, shapes up with a 3 ft SE swell, 11 second period, and light S winds at 6 mph. The energy is 231, and it’s clean. It’s a small wave, but the conditions are tidy. Afternoon picks up an onshore flow from the E, so the morning is the go.
Sunday morning, July 12th, is similar – 3 ft from the ESE, 11 second period, light WNW winds at 6 mph, clean. The energy is 215. It’s small and clean, good for a beginner or a longboard.
Then we hit a dry spell. From Monday, July 13th, through to Thursday, July 16th, the swell drops to knee-high or less, and the winds are messy or onshore. There’s a solid gap of about a week with nothing worth paddling out for.
The next standout is on Saturday, July 18th. The swell jumps up to 5 ft from the SE, with a 14 second period – that’s some proper groundswell. The energy is strong at 899. But the wind is cross-shore from the SE at 22 mph, and the report says poor conditions. It’s a big, powerful swell, but the wind is going to ruin it for paddle surfing. If you’re into kite surfing, this setup might light up.
Now, the real highlight of the whole outlook comes on Monday morning, July 20th. The swell is 5 ft from the SE, period 13 seconds, and the energy is thumping at 820. The wind is from the S at 9 mph, a gentle cross-offshore breeze, and the report says “expect very good surf conditions.” This is the one to circle. The swell direction (SE) is a bit off the optimum (ESE), but the wave quality and clean conditions make it the best on offer. The crowd factor is “sometimes,” so you might have company, but it’s worth it.
Tuesday, July 21st, keeps the fun going with a 3 ft SE swell, 11 second period, and clean offshore winds from the WSW at 3 to 12 mph. The energy is 300. It’s smaller, but clean and offshore.
After that, the forecast drops off again through the rest of the week. Wednesday, July 22nd, and Thursday, July 23rd, are small and ordinary, and by Friday, July 24th, it’s back to tiny waves.
The best call is Monday morning, July 20th. Clean conditions, solid groundswell, and a decent period. It’s the only real standout in the whole 16-day window.
Rusty.
