Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let's see what we've got here. The only game in town for the next two weeks is Anne Street Reef. It's a beginner-friendly reef setup, very consistent, and it likes swell from the ESE. The water's sitting at 69° right now, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you'll want that extra layer.
Right off the bat, we're looking at a rough start. Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th are pretty much write-offs with poor surf. The wind is howling from the SSE, creating a lumpy mess. There's some energy building Monday morning, with combined swell energy hitting a moderate 552, but the cross-off wind is just keeping it clean enough to be a marginal call. Not worth paddling out.
Tuesday the 7th morning is similar – clean but marginal, with a 6ft SE swell and moderate energy (502). The wind is a bit better, cross-off from the S, so it's not totally hopeless for a beginner to get a few soft ones, but it's nothing to get excited about.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Wednesday the 8th sees a proper groundswell arrive. The period jumps to 12 seconds, and the combined energy surges to a strong 1167. But the wind is a fresh cross-shore from the SSE, making the surface lumpy. That's a real shame because there's a lot of power in the water. This is a day for the dedicated surfer who doesn't mind the chop to chase a longer, more powerful wave on the reef.
Thursday the 9th morning is your first real standout in the near term. The swell is 8ft from the SE, with a solid 11-second period and a massive combined energy of 1849 – that's strong. The wind is offshore from the S, making it clean. This is a proper session for intermediate to advanced surfers. It's a bit much for beginners, but for everyone else, this is the call for the week.
Things taper off after that. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th are small and messy, with winds swinging around and the energy dropping off a cliff. There's a brief clean window on Sunday the 12th morning with a light NW breeze, but the swell is tiny at 3ft.
Then we hit a massive gap. From Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th morning, the swell is almost non-existent. The wind is offshore, which is nice, but there's nothing to ride. This is a blank run.
Now, for the long-range promise. Friday the 17th morning shows a glimmer of hope – a 5ft SE groundswell with a 13-second period and clean conditions. It's promising but still a week and a half out.
But the true standout of the entire 16-day forecast is Saturday the 18th morning. This is the one. The swell is 6ft from the SE with a very long 14-second period, giving you that heavy, powerful groundswell. The combined energy is a beast at 1533. And the wind? Glassy. Dead flat, glassy conditions from the WNW. This is an excellent day for experienced surfers. The long period will mean longer gaps between sets, making the paddle out easier, but the wave will be bowling and fast on the reef. This is a session to mark on your calendar, even if it's a bit of a wait.
After that, Sunday the 19th morning is small and clean again, and then we're back into small, rainy, cross-shore junk through Monday the 20th.
So, bottom line: If you want clean, powerful waves, you're looking at Thursday the 9th morning for the near-term, and then circling Saturday the 18th morning for the long-range gold. Don't bother with the rest.
