Table - best surf conditions forecast for Dawlish Warren over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with the lowdown on the local stretch.
It’s a grim start for Dawlish Warren. The first real surfable day doesn’t show up until Monday, 27 July, which is almost two weeks out. That’s a massive gap of nearly two weeks with nothing but junk to look at.
Before that, it’s all flat spells, weak windswell, or messy onshore slop. A few tiny bumps roll through with near-flat waves, and the wind is almost always wrong – cross-shore or onshore – keeping the surface choppy and uninviting. Even when the wind goes light or offshore, there’s simply no wave height to work with. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing exciting there.
Alright, the only day that gets a nod is Monday, 27 July. We finally see a proper swell pulse, with waves coming in at 5 ft from the SW, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy hits 251, so it’s got some moderate grunt behind it. The wind is light and offshore from the W, which should groom the surface nicely. The catch is, it’s a beach break. A long-period swell this is not, so it won’t be too straight. Still, for a beach break, 5 ft with clean conditions is a solid session. It’s a beginner-to-intermediate sized wave, so the more experienced crew will find plenty of fun lines. Crowds are listed as ‘sometimes’ at this spot, so you might have a few heads out but nothing crazy.
If you’re a kite surfer, the wind in the weeks prior is strong and cross/onshore, which would be far more interesting for you than for a paddle surfer. For the rest of us, it’s a waiting game. The blank run is pretty normal for this area in summer, but forecasts can change.
Rusty.
