The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – we’re looking at a pretty grim picture for the next couple of weeks. The data shows nothing but "poor surf conditions" across the entire 16-day window, so don’t expect to be waxing up anytime soon.
We’ve got a massive gap of quiet days right from the start. The first chance to even dip a toe in won’t come until Monday, July 27th, which is a full week away. Before that, we’re staring at tiny, flat dribble. For example, on Sunday, July 19th morning at Coney Beach, you’re looking at a pathetic 0.3 ft of swell from the west, with a period of just 7 seconds. The combined swell energy is a measly 2 – weak as dishwater. The wind is a gentle cross-onshore, so it’s not even clean. That’s the theme for the whole first week: tiny, weak swell and poor conditions.
Even when we get to Monday, July 27th, it’s a struggle. The morning session offers the best (and really, the only) sniff of surf. We get a 3 ft swell from the west-southwest, with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy ticks up to 44 (moderate), and the wind is a clean cross-offshore breeze from the WNW. It’s not big, but it’s the only thing that’s even remotely rideable. The water is about average for this time of year, so the sting won’t be too bad. Later that afternoon, the swell drops back to 0.7 ft and the wind picks up to a fresh 19 mph, so it’s a one-session window, really.
The following days barely improve. Tuesday, July 28th morning shows a similar story: 2 ft from the west, period of 9 seconds, and a clean cross-off wind. The energy is 59 (moderate). It’s doable, but nothing to write home about. After that, it’s back to ankle-biters with fresh, lumpy winds for the remainder of the run into early August. Honestly, this is a classic case of an area that can go quiet. It’s a blank run, but it’s not unusual for the location. The forecasts can always change, so keep your eyes peeled, but for now, the board stays in the car.
Stay patient.
Rusty.
