Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coastguard Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, fellow surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a good look at what's on offer at Coastguard Beach.
We gotta be straight up with you. The forecast is lookin' pretty flat for the next couple of weeks. There's a long stretch of not much happening. It’s going to be a quiet period, so don't get your hopes up for any epic sessions.
The first real chance for a surf is on Thursday, July 9th, but honestly, it’s a bit of a letdown. We’re lookin’ at tiny 2ft waves from the east with a short period of 8 seconds. The overall energy is pretty weak (46). The wind is a moderate breeze from the southwest, which is cross-offshore, so the surface will be clean, but there’s just no power behind it. The guides are saying it's poor surf, and I wouldn't bother paddling out. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year at 68°.
The rest of the forecast is more of the same. Friday through till the middle of next week, we're looking at tiny, gutless swell. It's mostly under 2ft with a combined energy that rarely tops 33. The wind flickers around from all directions, but it doesn't matter because there's no wave to ride. You might see some clean, glassy conditions on Wednesday afternoon, July 15th, but the swell is a pathetic 0.7ft. You'd be better off going for a swim. Saturday, July 18th, also goes glassy in the afternoon, but with a 2ft, 5-second windswell, it's just not gonna wrap in with any power.
There are some even smaller pulses around the 2nd and 3rd week of July, with the swell barely breaking 2ft. The winds are mostly cross-off or cross, keeping it clean, but the combined energy is pitiful. The biggest "event" is on Monday, July 20th, where the swell hits 2ft, but the period is a shocking 3 seconds. That’s just wind chop, not a wave you can surf. The whole run up to July 24th is looking like a write-off. Even the glassy conditions on the 15th and 18th aren't worth it because there's no wave to take advantage of.
Look, for a beginner beach break that needs an exposed swell, this is a tough run. It tends not to stay this poor for long around here, and forecasts can change, but for now, we’re in a dry spell. This setup would be far more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer, given the clean, constant cross-offshore winds we're seeing.
Keep the boards waxed for another day, folks. The ocean's having a rest.
Rusty.
