Alright, grab a coffee, let's have a look at what's coming. To be straight with you, for the next 16 days it's a pretty tough watch for our little stretch here. I've been staring at the numbers and honestly, there's no real green light or standout sessions ahead. We're looking at a long, quiet run with barely a ripple worth getting wet for.
Let's start at the beginning. This Sunday, the 5th of July, is a non-starter. We're talking about tiny 0.7ft slop, cross-shore winds, and a combined wave energy of just 8. It's flat, it's messy, and it's honestly not worth paddling out for. That sets the tone for a classic flat spell.
Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th offer a tiny pulse, but it's a waste of energy. Monday sees 1ft of short-period, choppy slop with a moderate breeze ruining any chance of a clean face. Tuesday actually shows a jump to a 4ft swell, but look, the period is a shocking 6 seconds and the wind is a strong 28 mph onshore. It's going to be a complete washing machine, and at 5ft in the afternoon with that wind, it's just ugly. The combined energy hits 196 (moderate) but the quality is zero.
Wednesday the 8th is a bit better in size with a 4ft swell, but the period is still short at 7 seconds and it's choppy. Thursday the 9th cleans up a bit with some cross-offshore winds and a 2ft swell from the east with an 8-second period, but the energy is weak at 58-82. It's surfable for a beginner, but nothing to write home about. Friday the 10th has a tiny clean window with a 1.0ft swell and light offshore winds from the west in the afternoon, but it's ankle-biters.
The rest of the run from the 11th through the 20th is basically a ghost town. We see tiny 0.3ft to 2ft swells, most with weak energy figures in the single digits or low 20s, and winds that are either cross or cross-off. The water temp is sitting at 67°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but you won't even feel it on a day you're not surfing. For a spot like Coastguard Beach (SC, United States) which is exposed and can be consistent, this is a bummer. It’s a beginner-friendly, consistent beach break, but when it's this flat, it's just a sandbox.
You'd have more fun flying a kite than trying to paddle out on these days. The setup is more interesting for the kite crew than us paddle surfers right now.
Bottom line: there is absolutely nothing to recommend in this 16-day window. It's a solid two-week blank. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
