Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coastguard Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
First off, I gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window for Coastguard Beach is a tough one. We're looking at a long stretch of nothing special, with a real gap in quality surf. The first few days are pretty much a write-off.
We kick off on Thursday the 9th of July with tiny, weak swell. You're looking at waves around 2 feet pushing in from the east with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is low (46), and the cross-offshore wind from the southwest is making it messy. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 68°F.
This pattern of small, weak, and poorly shaped surf carries right through the first week. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th are tiny, with winds shifting onshore. There's a brief moment of glassy conditions on the morning of Monday the 13th, but with swell barely at 0.3 feet, you'd be better off doing anything else. The swell energy is practically non-existent (3).
We finally see a bit of a pulse around the 18th of July. Saturday morning shows a 4 foot swell from the northeast, but it's a short period windswell of 5 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (103), but the wind is a clean cross-offshore from the northwest. It's a step up, but still not great. Saturday afternoon drops to 4 feet, with light winds, but the wave quality is still just "ordinary".
The only real standout, and I mean the only one, comes on Wednesday the 22nd of July. The morning swell jumps to 4 feet from the southeast with an 8-second period, and the combined energy is strong (468). It's the biggest pulse of the whole forecast. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the south-southwest, which will keep the faces tidy. The notes say "marginal" though, so don't expect a classic. It's not too big for a confident intermediate, but it's not a beginner wave either. This is the one session to pencil in.
After that, it's back to small, weak surf for the rest of the month. The winds stay clean, but there's just no swell to work with. For a spot that's exposed to the southeast, it's a frustrating run of flatness. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer for most of the period.
Rusty.
