Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coastguard Beach over the next 16 days.
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening.
To be honest, Coastguard Beach is looking pretty flat for most of this 16-day stretch. There’s some swell here and there, but nothing that’s going to get the heart pumping. A couple of mornings might be clean enough for a splash, but that’s about it.
Right from Wednesday the 8th, it’s a bust. We’ve got 6ft of east swell, but a cross-shore fresh breeze is chopping it all up. The wave energy is moderate (696), but with a short 8-second period, it’s messy and not worth paddling out.
Thursday the 9th is the best of a bad bunch. The wind turns cross-offshore, and even though the swell drops to 2ft, it’s clean. The energy is weak (46), but for a beginner beach, that’s about as good as it gets. Friday the 10th stays clean with light winds, but the swell is just 1ft – more of a paddle than a surf.
After that, it’s a long dry spell. From Saturday the 11th all the way to Wednesday the 23rd, we’re looking at tiny swell, mostly under 2ft, and energy readings barely cracking 100. Most days have cross-onshore or cross-shore winds, keeping things choppy. There’s a glimpse of glass on Wednesday the 22nd, but with only 0.7ft of east swell, it’s not doing anything. On Thursday the 23rd we get a clean 2ft push from the south, but the period is just 3 seconds – that’s wind chop, not surf.
So, don’t get your hopes up. If you’re a beginner and just want to float around in clean, tiny waves, Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are your sessions. For the rest of us, it’s a good time to check your fins and wait for a better forecast.
Rusty.
