Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coastguard Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, and I’ve got to be straight with you – the surf outlook for Coastguard Beach is a tough one. Right now, and for the next 16 days, there’s just nothing to get excited about. All the signs point to poor surf conditions, day after day.
The water temperature is sitting at a pretty average 65°F, nothing unusual for this time of year.
We start with a bit of a flat spell. On Friday the 10th and into Saturday the 11th, there’s almost no energy in the water. The combined swell energy is in the weak range (31 and lower), with tiny waves around 0.3m to 0.6m. Even the wind tries to help out with some light breezes, but the swell just isn’t there. You’d be spending more time paddling than riding.
Then we hit a long, dry gap. From Sunday the 12th all the way through to Sunday the 19th, there’s a stretch of minimal or no surfable waves. The energy readings are painfully low (3 to 45), with swell heights mostly under 0.4m. The wind does offer some clean, offshore moments on a few mornings and afternoons, like Monday the 14th and Thursday the 16th, but with wave heights of just 0.1m, it’s a total non-starter.
Finally, around Monday the 20th, we see a bit of a lift. The swell picks up to 1.4m from the east, and the combined energy jumps to 236 – that’s a moderate surge. But here’s the catch: the wind is onshore, blowing right into the face of the waves, making them choppy and messy. The period is short at 6 seconds, so it’s just wind-slop. It’s not really paddle-surfable; that kind of setup is honestly more of a kite-surfing day.
That pattern stays rough through the rest of the period. We see a bit more size on Friday the 24th (1.1m from the south, energy 169) and Saturday the 25th (1.0m), but again, the wind is cross-onshore and the conditions are described as poor.
So, what’s the best of a bad lot? Honestly, there are no standouts. The most interesting moment is Monday the 20th and the surrounding days, but only if you’re chasing a messy, onshore bump with no quality. For clean, rideable surf, there is nothing on the table. It’s a blank run for the books, but for Coastguard Beach, that’s not totally abnormal. Forecasts can change, so don’t lose hope entirely.
Rusty.
