Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table. This stretch ahead for Coastguard Beach is a tough one, to be honest. I've scanned the whole 16-day run and I gotta tell ya, we're looking at a real flat spell. The first surfable recommendation doesn't pop up until Tuesday, July 7th, but even then, it's nothing to write home about. There's a gap of a few days there with zero to offer. The overall pattern is small, messy, and mostly blown out.
Let's start from the beginning. Saturday, July 4th, you've got tiny 0.7ft waves out of the ESE with a sub-par period. The wind is cross-offshore, which would normally be a plus, but the energy is just too weak – we're talking a combined energy of only 10, which is very weak. It's clean but there's just no push. This carries on through Sunday and Monday with similar tiny surf, and the wind gets messy, with conditions turning cross-onshore and choppy.
Tuesday, July 7th, is when we see the biggest swell of the whole window. Swell height jumps to 6ft out of the E, with a combined energy of 368 – that's moderate wave energy. However, the period is a short 7 to 8 seconds, and the wind is howling out of the ENE and NE at 28 to 31 mph, making for blown-out, choppy conditions. This is expert territory only if you're desperate, but honestly, with that wind, it's more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddler's dream. The swell is too big and messy for beginners.
After that, the swell drops off. We get a pulse of 5ft on Wednesday the 8th from the NE, but again, it's short-period and messy. By Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th, we're back to tiny 0.7ft to 2ft waves, despite the winds turning clean again as they go cross-offshore from the SW. The water temp is sitting at 67°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year.
The second week is even quieter. From Saturday the 11th all the way through to the end on July 19th, we're dealing with waves mostly under 3ft. The swells are weak as anything – combined energy values barely cracking 60 and mostly sitting in the single digits. There's a little spike of 85 on Tuesday the 14th, but with messy winds and short periods, it's not worth the paddle out.
Look, the only faint glimmer comes way out on Saturday, July 18th. We get a tiny 0.3ft swell, but the period stretches out to a very long 13 to 14 seconds. That's groundswell energy, and the wind is offshore from the W, so conditions would be glassy clean. But with waves that small, you're talking about barely a ripple.
The best on offer? Honestly, there isn't a standout. If you're desperate for a paddle, the cleanest conditions with the biggest, still-poor waves happen on the morning of Tuesday, July 7th. But you're looking at 6ft of short-period, wind-whipped mess. For the long-range, that Saturday, July 18th, has the cleanest conditions, but it's a promise of flatness with a long period. It's a blank run, plain and simple. Not much else to say.
Rusty.
