Table - best surf conditions forecast for Coastguard Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll level with you – the next 16 days at Coastguard Beach are a tough stretch. The surf’s essentially flat or tiny for the entire run, with nothing that even gets close to a proper wave. We’ve got a long gap from the start, right through to the first week of August, with no recommendations worth paddling for. The best we can say is that the swell energy is weak, with values mostly in the single digits or low tens (like 7, 3, 3), and the biggest combined energy we see is only 87 (moderate wave energy) on Tuesday 21 July, but even then the swell height is only 0.2 ft. It’s a classic case of the area going quiet.
For the first week, from Monday 13 July through to Sunday 19 July, the swell barely registers. Monday morning kicks off with 0.7 ft from the SSW at 7 seconds, and a moderate cross-shore breeze that’s choppy – not worth a look. The rest of the week is a mix of tiny 0.3 ft and 1 ft swells, often with cross-off winds, but the waves are just too small to ride. Wednesday 15 July afternoon gets a glassy 2 ft from the south at 5 seconds, but it’s still poor surf. We’re talking about a week where the highest swell is 3 ft on Sunday 19 July morning, but that’s from the south at 6 seconds, and the wind is cross-off – still not enough to get excited about. The water temperature is 67°F, which is about average for the time of year, so that’s not a factor.
Moving into the second week, from Monday 20 July, it’s more of the same. Monday morning has 1.0 ft from the SSE, and the wind is light cross-off, but the wave is too small. The best of the fortnight is probably Tuesday 21 July morning, with 2 ft from the SE at 10 seconds, and a gentle cross-shore that leaves a slight chop – combined energy is 87 (moderate wave energy), but you’re still looking at weak, knee-high slop. The rest of the week is 1 ft to 2 ft, mostly from the SE, with winds that are mostly cross or cross-on, and the period never gets above 10 seconds. The final days, from 25 July, get even smaller – 0.7 ft and 0.3 ft, with strong breezes and messy conditions. Honestly, this stretch is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, given the persistent wind and small surf.
There’s no standout session here. The entire 16-day window is a blank run for surfable waves. It’s a normal quiet period for the area, and forecasts can change, but right now, keep your board in the car and wait for the next pulse.
