Table - best surf conditions forecast for Woolgoolga over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, checking out the next 16 days for Woolgoolga. It’s a bit up and down, but there are a few sessions worth getting wet for.
Nothing much happening right now. The first real standout is Saturday, July 11th. Woolgoolga (beach and reef) is seeing a 4ft swell from the southeast, and the wind is glassy out of the northwest at just 3 mph. That’s about as clean as it gets. The combined energy is solid at 483, so there’s a good bit of push. This is a morning mission for the advanced crew, and it’s the best on offer early on. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
Sunday morning, July 12th, is still clean with a cross-off breeze, but the swell drops to 3ft, so it’s smaller. Monday, July 13th, is tiny and weak, only 2ft with a combined energy of 63 – not worth it.
Then we hit a big gap. From Tuesday, July 14th, through the end of the first week, the surf is mostly poor. There’s a spike in size on Wednesday, July 15th, with 5ft to 7ft from the south, but the period is only 7 seconds, and the wind is howling at 18-22 mph. The wave quality is poor, so it’s more of a kite-surfing day. The combined energy gets to 430, but it’s messy.
By Friday, July 17th, the swell builds to 8ft from the southeast with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy hits 1183 – that’s a lot of power. But the wind is still strong, and the conditions are marginal. This is only for experts.
The next good window opens on Sunday, July 19th, in the afternoon. The swell is 5ft from the east-southeast, the wind is light and cross-off at 6 mph, and the combined energy is 385. The conditions are clean. Monday, July 20th, morning is also good, with 5ft from the east, a light cross-off breeze, and clean conditions. The combined energy is 425. These two days are the second standout period.
After that, we get a few more clean mornings, like Tuesday, July 21st, and Wednesday, July 22nd, with 5ft to 4ft swell and cross-off winds, but the energy drops off. By the end of the second week, from July 24th onwards, the surf gets small and weak again, with combined energy under 200.
So, the best bets are the glassy morning of Saturday, July 11th, and the clean afternoon of Sunday, July 19th, through Monday morning, July 20th. The long-range stuff is promising but less certain. Keep an eye on the wind.
Rusty.
