Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s on the cards for Woolgoolga: a classic beach and reef setup that only advanced crew should be looking at for the next couple of weeks. The forecast kicks off with some bumpy, mediocre stuff, but there are a couple of windows where it’ll come alive.
First up, Saturday 4 July – morning has a shot with a 5ft south swell, period around 8 seconds, and clean conditions under a cross-off SSW breeze. The combined swell energy is moderate at 423, but the period is short, so expect a bit of punch but not heaps of shape. It’s a so-so start.
Saturday afternoon fades fast – drops to 3ft and goes messy, so don’t bother.
Sunday 5 July has a bit more size with 3ft in the morning and 7ft in the afternoon, both from the south to SSE, but the wind is up – 25 to 30 km/h from the SSW to S, cross-off but strong. It’s clean, but the energy’s moderate (217 then 534) and the quality’s only marginal. Not worth the effort for most.
Monday 6 July is similar – 8ft in the morning, 7ft in the afternoon, SSE swells, but with 30 km/h S winds and rain. The energy climbs to 944 and 1077, but it’s still marginal. Too much wind churn.
Now, Tuesday 7 July morning – this is a standout for the experts. We’re looking at a 10ft SSE swell with a 10-second period, and the wind is cross-off from the SSW at 30 km/h. The combined energy is 2850 – strong. The swell is too big for most, but for advanced surfers willing to handle that power, it’s clean and meaty. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
Wednesday 8 July morning is another big one: 10ft SSE swell, 11-second period, and cross-off SSW wind at 25 km/h. Energy is 3420 – very strong again. Same deal: too big for beginners, but a real test for the experienced.
The rest of that week into the weekend slides back to 7ft to 8ft range, mostly SSE to SE, with moderate winds keeping things clean but energy dropping. Nothing special until…
Here’s the cream of the crop: Saturday 11 July morning. Light offshore wind from the WSW at 10 km/h, 6ft S swell with a 10-second period, and combined energy at 1073. That’s clean, lined-up, groundswell. Period is long enough for proper shape. This is the best on offer – glassy, offshore, and real power. For advanced surfers, this is the session to circle.
Sunday 12 July morning has a small drop to 3ft from the ESE, 10-second period, cross-off NW breeze at 15 km/h. Clean but small – fun for a mellow cruisy session if you’re hungry.
From Monday 13 July onward, things get weak. Swell drops under 3ft, wind turns onshore or glassy but with barely any energy. There’s a brief bump on Thursday 16 July with a 5ft south swell and 12-second period, but with rain showers and clean cross-off wind, energy at 855 – still only marginal. Another possible window on Friday 17 July morning: 6ft SSE, 7-second period, cross-off SSW wind at 20 km/h, energy 629. Short period though, so won’t hold much shape.
The last few days (18 and 19 July) are small and messy again.
Overall, the two standout sessions are the big Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 July mornings for hardcore experts, and the Saturday 11 July morning for a more manageable but still powerful clean session. Everything else is either too big for most, too small, or too wind-affected.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
