Table - best surf conditions forecast for Woolgoolga over the next 16 days.
This forecast, covering the next 16 days, is all about one spot: Woolgoolga. It's a beach and reef setup that needs some careful timing, but there are a few sessions that will make it all worth it.
Right now, the water temp is sitting about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
We kick off Sunday morning, July 12th, with a nice little pulse. A clean 3ft swell from the ESE with a short 10-second period, but the wind is a light WNW cross-off. It's not huge, but the energy is moderate (205) and it’s looking clean. This is a solid session for someone who knows the place – Woopi is for advanced surfers, remember.
Sunday afternoon fades fast. The swell drops a touch, wind swings SE, and it goes crumbly. Not worth it.
Monday morning, July 13th, is tiny at 2ft, but the wind goes glassy. The energy is weak (58). It’s a morning for a log if you’ve got one, but the wave quality is just ordinary.
Then it goes pretty quiet. Tuesday through Thursday morning is a write-off – tiny, messy, or just blown-out. Don’t even bother.
The real story starts Thursday afternoon, July 16th. The swell jumps to 10ft from the SE, but here’s the catch – it’s predicted to be too big for this break. The energy is enormous (1570). This is expert-only territory, and it’s going to be a washing machine. If you’re a strong surfer who knows the reef, you might find a bomb, but be careful.
Friday, July 17th, is more of the same: a massive 10ft to 12ft SE swell with that raw power (2341 in the morning). It’s still too big for most. The wind is cross-off or cross, so it’s clean, but this is for experienced chargers only.
Saturday, July 18th, keeps the size at 12ft with a 10-11 second period and clean cross-off winds. Again, this is only for the crew with big-wave balls and intimate knowledge of the place. The energy is through the roof (2817).
By Sunday, July 19th, it’s easing. Still big at 10ft in the morning, but the wind goes cross-on. The quality drops, and by afternoon it’s a messy 8ft. Not the day.
The standout is Monday morning, July 20th. The swell drops to a much more manageable 7ft from the ESE with a 10-second period. The energy is moderate (750), and the wind is a clean NW cross-off. The conditions will be very good. This is the best balance of size and quality for an advanced surfer in this entire run.
Tuesday morning, July 21st, looks epic for the brave. A groundswell from the ESE with a 12-second period at 8ft. Clean offshore wind from the W. This swell has real push and shape, but at over 8ft, it’s expert-only. The energy is very strong (1516). If you can handle it, this could be the session of the forecast.
After that, it slowly fades. Wednesday and Thursday, July 22nd & 23rd, offer clean 4ft to 6ft waves, but nothing that will blow you away. The last worthwhile look is Saturday morning, July 25th, with a clean 4ft ESE swell – a fun, manageable size for the more experienced crew.
Bottom line: Woolgoolga is not for learners, and it's going to be either too small or too big for most of this 16-day stretch. The true standouts are Monday morning, July 20th, for the best all-round conditions, and Tuesday morning, July 21st, for the hardcore crew seeking a big, clean groundswell. Be patient, pick your window, and respect the size.
