Table - best surf conditions forecast for Woolgoolga over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Woolgoolga over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a bit of a slow start. We’re looking at a long stretch of pretty ordinary conditions before anything worth paddling out for shows up. The first real window of clean surf doesn’t arrive until Tuesday the 21st of July, so there’s a solid week of tiny, sloppy, or wind-whipped waves to sit through.
Right now, Monday the 13th has a tiny 2ft swell, but with an onshore breeze kicking in by the afternoon, it’s not worth bothering with. The next few days are a write-off: Tuesday the 14th sees a drop to 0.7ft, and by Wednesday the 15th we get a pulse of 6ft swell from the SSE, but with a strong 30 km/h southerly breeze and rain showers, it’s a messy, blown-out affair. The combined swell energy around that time is moderate at best (392), but the wind just ruins it.
That rough pattern holds through Thursday and Friday the 16th and 17th, with similar sized swells around 5ft to 7ft, but still hammered by strong southerly winds and lumpy cross-chop. Even Saturday the 18th is no good – same story, 5ft but messy.
Now, come Sunday the 19th, we get a bigger pulse – 8ft from the ESE with a combined energy reading of 1863, which is a serious amount of power. But the period is short at 9 seconds, wind is still a cross-shore problem, and it’s accompanied by rain. That size is getting into expert-only territory, and with those conditions, it’s a pass for most. Monday the 20th is still marginal, with 6ft swell and cleaner winds, but the quality is questionable.
Finally, Tuesday the 21st is where it all comes together. Woolgoolga will see a clean 5ft easterly groundswell, with light offshore winds from the south at just 3 mph. Period is a solid 10 seconds, so there’s some push and shape. The combined energy is moderate (394), but the main draw is the glassy, near-perfect conditions. This is the standout of the outlook – a true morning session for the advanced crew. The swell direction (E) isn’t the absolute optimum for this spot (ESE), but with that light offshore and clean lines, it’s going to be worth getting wet. Crowds are *sometimes* an issue at Woolgoolga, so get in early.
Following that, Wednesday the 22nd offers another clean window with 5ft and offshore winds, but the energy is lower (210) and the wind shifts through the day. Thursday the 23rd is tiny again at 3ft, but glassy in the morning. Friday the 24th sees a similar 3ft swell, clean and glassy again in the AM – good for a longboard or a funboard, but nothing to get too excited about.
The second week fades out. Through the 25th to the 28th, we’re back to small, inconsistent easterly swells around 3ft to 4ft, with periods stretching out to 11-12 seconds. That long period on a beach break like Woolgoolga can make things a bit straight and fat. Winds stay mostly cross or cross-off, but nothing that will light the place up. Energy levels drop below 300 and then fall away completely by Tuesday the 28th.
So, bottom line: the week up to the 21st is mostly a write-off. The one true standout is the morning of Tuesday the 21st of July – clean, offshore, and solid enough to make it a session. Lock it in.
