Table - best surf conditions forecast for Woolgoolga over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Woolgoolga over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a slow start. Friday the 10th is a write-off with messy, cross-off winds and a lumpy 6ft SE swell that just isn’t coming together. The combined energy is moderate at 784, but the conditions are marginal. We’ll have to wait until Saturday morning for things to clean up.
Saturday the 11th is our first real standout. The wind is set to go glassy, with a light NW breeze at 5 km/h. That’s a major positive. The swell drops a touch to 4ft from the SE, with a period of 10 seconds and moderate energy (513). This is going to be clean, fun-size surf and it’s the best call of the early days. The water temp is about average for the time of year, which is fine.
Sunday the 12th sees a drop in size and energy, down to 3ft (205), and the wind turns cross-offshore, so it’s clean but small. The rest of the following week, from Monday the 13th through to Wednesday the 15th, is a flat spell of very small, weak waves with energy readings mostly under 100. It’s a real lull.
Then things get interesting again, but only for the experts. From Thursday the 16th through to the following Sunday the 19th, a big SSW groundswell moves in. The energy jumps to strong, with readings like 1887 and climbing all the way up to 23759 on Friday the 17th. We’re looking at waves from 10ft up to a massive 21ft, with a very long period of 13 seconds. The wind is cross-offshore, keeping it clean, but these sizes are too big for all but the most experienced crew. This is a heavy, powerful swell that will be breaking straight at the beach, so it’s really only for the chargers.
After that big pulse, conditions settle back down. The swell drops to 6ft from the SE on Monday the 20th, with a light cross-off wind and energy at 720. That’s a clean, solid option for the majority of surfers. Tuesday the 21st stays clean with a 4ft SE swell and light offshore winds.
Finally, looking way out to Saturday the 25th, there’s a promising but less certain signal. The forecast shows a 6ft SSE groundswell with a very long 15-second period, and clean conditions with a light cross-off breeze. The energy is strong at 1454, and the swell direction matches the optimum for the spot (ESE). If it holds, that could be a cracking day for a point or reef setup, but long-period swells can be tricky on the beach. Worth keeping an eye on.
So, the standout pick is Saturday morning the 11th for the clean, glassy conditions and fun waves. For the big-wave hunters, Thursday the 16th through the 19th is the main event, but it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Rusty.
