Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey everyone, it’s Rusty. Look, we’ve got a big pulse of south-east swell hitting Woolgoolga, but the honest truth is the first part of this stretch is really for the experienced crew only. The wave energy is massive, with combined energy readings hitting 1527 and climbing to 2776 – that’s a powerful system. But the swell is coming in at 10 to 12 ft, which is simply too big and powerful for most folks, pushin’ past that expert threshold. The water temp is sitting around 68°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year.
Monday 6 July afternoon kicks it off, but at 10 ft from the SSE and a fresh 22 mph cross-off wind, it’s big and raw. The period is 9 seconds, so it’s a bit of a choppy mix. This is for the serious chargers only. Tuesday 7 July holds that same size, 10-12 ft, with a longer 11-second period – that’s a proper groundswell – but it’s still giant. The wind stays fresh and cross-off.
The true standout window comes later. Sunday 19 July morning is the one to circle on the calendar. We’ve got a clean 5 ft swell from the SE with a long 12-second period, and the energy is a solid 708. Winds are glassy from the WNW, which will groom it perfectly. That’s the best on offer – clean, solid, and with some real push behind it. The break itself (Woolgoolga) is a beach and reef setup, fairly consistent, and with a good ESE swell direction. Just be aware it can get crowded sometimes. After that, Monday 20 July drops off to smaller, ordinary waves around 2-3 ft.
Then, there’s another promising pulse on Tuesday 21 July. The morning brings 7 ft from the SSE, 9-second period, with an 833 energy reading and a clean cross-off from the NW. That’s another solid day, but it’s pushing that “big for beginners” range at over 5 ft.
In between the big stuff, there’s a real lull. From around Thursday 9 July through to Thursday 16 July, the surf drops off significantly. You’ll see days of 1 ft to 4 ft, often with poor conditions or marginal tides. Friday 10 July has a clean 6 ft morning, but it’s only scoring okay. There’s a gap of over a week where you’re not gonna find anything worth the paddle.
So to wrap it up: the early part is massive and for experts only. The real gem for the average surfer is Sunday 19 July, with that clean, long-period groundswell. Tuesday 21 July is also worth a look for the bigger wave crew. The rest is a waiting game.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
