Table - best surf conditions forecast for Watergate Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Watergate Bay has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I've got to be straight with you – this is a tough outlook. The next week and a half is looking pretty grim for any decent waves. We've got a long stretch of small, weak swells with poor wind conditions. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn't show up until Friday, July 11th, with a small 2ft swell from the west. The morning session will be clean with a light cross-offshore breeze, but it's only a 1 out of 10 on the quality scale. The combined energy is weak (101), so it's really just a knee-high paddle for the desperate. The rest of that weekend and the following week is a write-off – small, messy, and mostly onshore winds. From the 12th of July through to the 24th, it's a long run of poor conditions with swell heights barely hitting 3ft. The energy readings are mostly in the 60-80 range, which is just plain weak. Thursday the 24th has a 6ft west-northwest swell that could be interesting, but with a short period of 6 seconds, it's going to be a lumpy, fat mess, especially at a fairly exposed beach like this. The combined energy is moderate (242), but the wind is glassy early. That's the only real standout, and it's a long way off.
The best of the best, and I'm stretching here, is that Thursday morning, July 24th. With a 6ft WNW swell and glassy conditions, it's the only time the stars might align. But that short period means it won't have much punch. For beginners, it's a bit big, maybe pushing into intermediate territory. The rest of the window is a total bust. If you're serious, keep an eye on that 24th, but don't hold your breath.
Rusty, signing off.
