The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Tiririca.
Honestly, mate, it’s a tough stretch. The wind is just not playing ball for most of the period. We’ve got some solid swell rolling in, but it’s constantly getting chopped up by cross-shore and cross-onshore winds. The first real chance to get a decent wave doesn't come until Tuesday the 21st of July.
For the first few days, from Thursday the 16th through to Monday the 20th, it’s mostly a write-off. The swell is there, with moderate energy, and chest to head-high sets, but the wind is just ruining it. It’s choppy and messy. You’d be fighting a losing battle.
The standout moment comes on Tuesday morning, the 21st of July. The wind finally swings offshore out of the southwest, going glassy. The swell will be a consistent 6 ft from the ESE, with a short period of 8 seconds. It’s not going to be the most powerful or lined-up wave, but with that glassy surface, it’ll be the cleanest surf we’ll have seen in days. The water is sitting at a warm 79°, which is about average for this time of year.
The following morning, Wednesday the 22nd of July, is also a good shout. It’s dead calm, glassy as, with a 5 ft swell from the east. It’s a bit smaller, but still perfectly clean for a beginner-friendly wave. The afternoon turns onshore, so get it early.
After that, the swell drops off significantly. We’re looking at waist-high or smaller waves from the 24th of July onwards, with period dropping and energy weakening. There’s a brief window of clean conditions on the morning of the 25th and 26th, but the swell is tiny (3 ft to 3 ft). Still, if you’re desperate for a paddle, it’ll be glassy and clean.
The long-range stuff, around the 27th to the 31st, is a bit of a tease. The swell gets very small and inconsistent, with a long-period groundswell showing up, but the wind is all over the place. Not worth getting excited about that far out.
So, to sum it up: your best bet is Tuesday morning, the 21st of July, and the early morning of Wednesday the 22nd. Everything else is a scratch or a skip.
Rusty.
