The Lowdown
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple weeks here at Tiririca.
First thing to say is, it’s not firing. The forecast is pretty flat for a stretch, and there’s a real gap with no decent surf to speak of for a good while. The water temp is sitting at 79°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so no drama there.
The best window falls on Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd of July. Tuesday morning looks like the pick of the bunch. We’ve got a clean 6ft swell rolling in from the ESE, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is glassy – dead calm, light SSW air – so the surface will be clean. The combined wave energy is moderate at 412. It’s not a huge swell, but it’s the best we’ve got. This spot is consistent, exposed to the swell, and the offshore direction is a cross-off from the SSW, which will help keep things lined up. It’s a beginner-friendly break, so that size is fine for learning. Crowds are possible here sometimes, so don’t expect solitude.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is also worth a mention. Similar story: 5ft from the E, 8-second period, glassy conditions with a calm NNW wind. Combined energy at 351. Again, clean, surfable, but nothing epic.
After that, it drops off fast. From Thursday the 23rd onward, the swell fades from 4ft down to 1.0ft by the end of the month. The combined energy drops from 228 down into the double digits. There’s a few mornings with glassy conditions, like Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th, but the wave size is just too small to get excited about – 4ft, 3ft, then 3ft. It’s ordinary, flat, and not worth paddling out for.
There is a bit of a long-period spike from the SSE on Wednesday the 29th and Thursday the 30th of July, with periods of 15 to 18 seconds and combined energy in the 200s, but the swell height is tiny – 1.0ft to 2ft. That’s a groundswell with no push. It’ll look pretty but won’t break with any power. Not worth the effort.
The first of August shows a little pulse of 4ft from the SSE on Saturday afternoon, but the wind is cross-on from the ESE, making it choppy and poor. Before that, Saturday morning is clean with a cross-off wind and 2ft, but it’s too small to do much.
Honestly, for a solid 16-day outlook, the only sessions that really stand out are the Tuesday and Wednesday mornings of the 21st and 22nd July. After that, it’s a long, flat stretch with a few tiny, unexciting waves. Might be a good time to clean the wax off the board and wait for the next system.
Rusty.
