Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tiririca over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's cooking at Tiririca.
Over the next couple of weeks, we've got a bit of a mixed bag. The biggest issue is that the wind is mostly going to be a problem, keeping things from getting really clean for a lot of the time. There's a persistent swell, but it's going to be a real struggle to get good conditions.
Looking at the start of the period, Wednesday afternoon the 8th has a small 2ft SSE swell with a long 13-second period, but the water is a warm 79°, which is about average for this time of year. The problem is the onshore wind is already messing it up, so it's a no-go. Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are in the same boat with a little more size, around 3ft from the SSE, but the cross-onshore winds keep it messy. The wave energy is building a bit, but it's just not clean.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Saturday morning, the 11th of July. The swell is 4ft from the SSE, and the energy is getting up there. But the real standout here is the wind: a light NNW cross-shore breeze. That's going to make it a bit more workable and the best of a pretty average run. The period is a nice 13 seconds, so there's some push to it.
Then we hit a bit of a lull. The swell drops off to around 2ft-3ft through the middle of the week, with onshore and cross-onshore winds. The morning of Tuesday the 14th is glassy, but the swell is a tiny 3ft with a short 5-second period from the NE, so it’s just a bump.
Now, there's a bit of a change coming. Wednesday morning the 15th of July, we see a jump in size to 5ft from the SSE. The wind is a clean cross-offshore from the S, and the forecast says "expect good surf conditions." The period is a very short 6 seconds, so it's going to be a bit of a crumbly, windswell affair. Best for the more experienced crew.
This pattern holds into the next week. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th have clean cross-off winds in the mornings with 3ft to 4ft SSE swell, making for some fun, clean waves. Not huge, but clean.
The second week is a bit of a wildcard. The 20th and 21st of July see a bigger pulse of swell, hitting 6ft to 6ft from the E, but the wind is howling from the SE, making it a choppy, blown-out mess. The energy is strong, but unless you're a kite surfer, it's a pass. The tide and wind are just against it.
Finally, the last few days, the 22nd and 23rd of July, show a return to cleaner conditions. The wind switches to a light cross-offshore from the S and the swell hangs around 5ft to 5ft, also from the E and ESE. The energy is still solid. This is the best bet in the second week, but it's a long way out, so treat it with a pinch of salt.
So, to wrap it up: the best bet on offer is the morning of Saturday the 11th of July. It's not perfect, but it's the cleanest window we have with some decent energy. The mornings of the 16th, 17th, 22nd, and 23rd are also promising for clean surf, but with smaller swell.
Rusty.
