Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but there are a few windows where it’ll be worth paddling out.
The overall pattern starts off with some small but rideable waves, then a decent little pulse of groundswell rolls in mid-week. After that, it drops right off into a long flat spell. The standout window is without a doubt the stretch from Thursday the 9th into the weekend of the 11th and 12th. That’s where we see the best combination of size, clean conditions, and proper groundswell energy.
Let’s break it down. We kick off on Sunday the 5th at Tiririca. Morning sees a 5ft easterly swell, but period is only 8 seconds and the combined energy is moderate at 338. The wind is a light cross-off from the south, keeping it clean. It’s a consistent beginner spot, so if you’re just getting wet, it’s doable. Water temp is 79°, which is about average for this time of year. Crowds are sometimes a thing here, so expect a few out. The afternoon gets a bit messy with cross-shore wind.
Monday the 6th is smaller, dropping to 3ft in the morning, still clean but nothing to write home about. Tuesday the 7th is tiny. Then we get our first real highlight: Thursday morning, the 9th. It’s glassy—dead calm wind—with a clean 3ft swell from the SSE. The period jumps to 12 seconds, so proper groundswell energy with 262 combined energy. These long-period waves will have some shape and power, though at a beach break they might stand up a bit straight. Paddling out will be easier between sets.
Friday the 10th morning holds similar quality: 4ft from the SE, 11-second period, 290 energy, and a light cross-off wind keeping it clean. Good surf.
Now, the true standout: Saturday the 11th morning. This is the best on offer. A solid 4ft SE groundswell, long 13-second period, and a whopping combined energy of 474—that’s strong wave energy. Wind is light cross-off from the NW, so the face will be clean. This is the one to circle. Sunday the 12th morning is again glassy with a 4ft SE swell, 12-second period, and 343 energy. Another ripper morning.
After the 12th, things start to fade. Monday the 13th morning is still a clean 3ft but smaller. From Tuesday the 14th onward, the size drops below 2ft or the wind goes onshore, and the swell periods get short and weak. There’s a long stretch of poor to un-surfable conditions from the 14th right through to the 19th.
We do see a little bump on Sunday the 19th morning: a glassy 4ft from the NE, but period is a weak 6 seconds. Combined energy is only 121. It’s surfable but ordinary. By Monday the 20th, we get a brief pulse of long-period groundswell from the SSE at 18 seconds, but it’s only 2ft and the wind is cross-on, making it poor.
So, bottom line: hit Thursday the 9th, Friday the 10th, and absolutely do not miss Saturday the 11th or Sunday the 12th mornings. That’s your best chance at clean, proper waves. After that, it goes quiet for a long spell.
Rusty, out.
