Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up for Tiririca over the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a bit of a slow start, with some small, ordinary waves, but there’s a couple of moments that might get your blood pumping if you time it right. This is a beginner-friendly, consistent spot that’s exposed to the east, but the optimum swell direction is from the east, so when everything lines up, it can be fun. Water temp is pretty much what you’d expect for this time of year, nothing wild.
The first real chance to get wet looks like Monday morning, July 6th. You’ll see some clouds, a light cross-off breeze from the SSW, and chest-high waves around 3 ft from the east, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined wave energy is moderate at 153. It’s surfable, but don’t expect anything special—just an ordinary session to knock the rust off.
Tuesday morning, July 7th, brings a little more rain and a tiny drop in size to 2 ft, still from the east, period 8 seconds. The wind switches to a light cross-off from the SSW again, keeping things clean. Energy drops to 118. Still just okay.
Wednesday morning, July 8th, is a real tease. The swell drops to barely 2 ft from the SSE, but the wind goes glassy from the NNW. The period jumps to 11 seconds—that longer groundswell energy, but the size is just too small to do much with. You might catch a knee-high roller if you’re patient. Energy is 144.
Thursday, July 9th, the swell bumps back up to 3 ft from the SSE with a 12-second period. Combined energy hits 299—moderate. But the wind is cross-on from the east, so it’s messy and marginal. Not worth the paddle.
Now, here’s where things get interesting. Friday morning, July 10th, is your first real standout. The swell holds at 4 ft from the SE, period 11 seconds, and the wind goes glassy from the southeast—completely clean conditions. Energy is 355, moderate and solid. This is the kind of morning where you want to be in the water early. Tiririca is consistent anyway, but with glassy conditions and a proper chest-high groundswell, the waves will have some shape and push. The optimum direction for this spot is east, and we’re coming from the southeast, which is close enough to work well.
Saturday morning, July 11th, the swell builds a bit more to 4 ft from the SE, period stretching to 13 seconds—nice long-period groundswell. Energy jumps to 551, which is strong. Wind is light cross from the NNW, keeping the surface fairly clean. This could be the best pulse of the whole period, but the wave comment says “marginal” – likely due to tide or the long period making it a bit straight at this beach break. Still, with 4 ft and good energy, it’s worth a look early.
From Sunday, July 12th, through Tuesday, July 14th, things drop back down. Swell hangs around 3 ft to 5 ft, but the wind turns cross-on or choppy, and the energy wanes. A few marginal windows, but nothing you’d rush for.
Then Wednesday, July 15th, it gets big. Morning brings 8 ft from the SSE, period only 7 seconds – short period windswell. Wind is cross-off from the south at 12 mph, keeping the surface clean, but at this size it’s big for beginners and better left to experienced surfers. Combined energy is 622 – strong. The short period means it’s gonna be lumpy and less organized. Not the classic Tiririca wave.
Thursday July 16th still has 7 ft from the SSE, but winds pick up and the energy drops to 410. Still clean in the morning, but the short period (7 sec) makes it tricky.
After that, from Friday July 17th through to Tuesday July 21st, it’s a long run of poor conditions. Swell mostly under 5 ft, but winds are onshore or cross-shore and often moderate to fresh. The wave energy stays moderate (around 250-400) but the quality is consistently poor. You’ll see lots of rain showers and choppy, messy surf. Not worth your time unless you’re desperate for a paddle.
Bottom line: If you can get out Friday morning, July 10th, that’s your best bet for clean, fun waves with a bit of energy. Saturday morning, July 11th, has more size and energy but might be a bit wonky due to the long period on a beach break. The big swell mid-month (July 15th–16th) is big and short-period – only for the crew with bigger boards and experience. The rest is mostly a write-off.
Stay sharp, and remember – the long-range stuff in the second week is less certain, so keep an eye on the sky. Rusty out.
