Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rabbit/Manana Island over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight up: this is a tough run for Rabbit/Manana Island. The whole 16-day window is a write-off for any decent paddle surfing. There’s simply nothing on offer that’s worth poking a board in the water for.
Right from Sunday the 12th, we’ve got a strong cross-shore breeze at 25 mph and a lumpy 7 ft ENE swell with a short, weak period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate, sitting at 487, but it’s all blown out. That same pattern just keeps grinding on through the rest of the week—Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday—all cross or cross-onshore wind, with the swell hanging around 4 ft to 6 ft, and periods never getting above 8 seconds. The wind is a fresh breeze most of the time, and the water is about average for the time of year at 79°.
Wednesday morning the 15th is the only moment that even flirts with surfable. The wind drops to a gentle 9 mph cross-off, and the swell is 4 ft from ENE at 7 seconds. The combined energy is weak (179). It’s clean, but it’s small and weak—a couple of grovelly ones if you’re desperate, but it’s not a recommendation.
After that, it’s just more of the same. Thursday the 16th through to the end of the month: fresh breezes, cross and cross-onshore winds, and lumpy, choppy conditions. The swell bounces between 2 ft and 6 ft, but the wind never lets it clean up. There’s a long-period groundswell showing on the 20th and 21st, with 17-second and 16-second periods, but it’s tiny (2 ft to 2 ft) and the wind is still cross-onshore. That energy is moderate (255 to 286), but it’s wasted on a beach break with that wind.
For a spot that’s fairly consistent and exposed to NNE, it’s a rare blank run. The kind of stretch where if you’re watching the ocean, you’re better off just sitting on the sand. If the wind keeps howling from the ENE like this, the setup is more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about for at least two weeks.
Rusty.
