Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming our way for Rabbit/Manana Island. Gotta be straight with you – this one's a tough stretch of forecasts. The whole 16-day window is pretty much a write-off for decent stand-up surfing. The pattern is locked in with a strong, persistent cross-onshore wind that just won't let up.
We kick off on Monday, July 6th, and straight away the wind is howling out of the ENE at 25 mph. The swell is a messy 8 ft from the same direction with a short period of 7 seconds. The water temp is sitting at 79°, which is pretty average for this time of year. But even though there's moderate wave energy (563) in the water, the conditions are just poor – that wind is tearing it all apart. It's a similar story right through the first week and into the second. The swell drops a bit by Tuesday, July 14th, down to 5 ft, but the cross-onshore wind keeps things choppy and unrideable.
The only real change in the pattern comes right at the very end, on Tuesday, July 21st. The swell drops right off to a tiny 2 ft, but the period stretches out to a very long 18 seconds, and we get a brief taste of cross-shore wind. Still, the energy is moderate (352) and the wind is fresh, so it's messy. With that long period on a small wave, it'll close out on a beach break anyway.
Honestly, there's not a single moment in these 16 days where the stars align. That persistent ENE wind and the swell coming from the same direction just murder any chance of a clean wave. For a spot that's exposed to that direction, this is a classic case of "look, don't jump in." If you're into kite surfing, that strong, steady cross-onshore wind and the moderate wave energy might actually be a bit more interesting. But for a paddle surfer? You're better off finding something else to do.
Rusty, signing off.
