Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it for Rabbit/Manana Island.
Honestly, looking out over the next 16 days, it's a tough stretch. The forecast is a long, hard run of onshore winds and lumpy, messy surf. That ENE wind just won't let up, blowing fresh to strong all through the period. The water temp's sitting at 80°, which is about normal for this time of year, so at least you won't be freezing while you're getting chopped up.
It kicks off Sunday the 5th with a 6 ft ENE swell, but with a fresh cross-onshore wind, the wave comment is "poor surf conditions" and I've got to agree – it's going to be bumpy. That energy reading is moderate (388), but it's a short-period 7-second windswell with no real shape to it.
Monday the 6th through to Thursday the 10th, the pattern holds. Swell hangs around 6 ft to 7 ft, all ENE, all short period (7-8 seconds). Wind stays a strong to fresh cross-onshore, with the wave state described as "messy" or "lumpy". The energy picks up into the 500s (moderate) mid-week, but it doesn't matter if it's that ragged.
Friday the 11th sees a risk of thunderstorms and the same story – 7 ft of messy ground chop.
There isn't a single standout here. Not one day in the entire 16-day window offers clean, rideable waves. The wind is simply never favourable, and the swell direction is right on the nose of the prevailing wind. For a break that's exposed to the NNE, getting a constant ENE cross-onshore is just about the worst news.
Honestly, from the 5th of July all the way through to the 20th of July, there's nothing I'd recommend. It's a blank run. For a spot like this, with that persistent trade wind pattern, a stretch like this is pretty normal for the season. Keep an eye on it – forecasts can shift – but right now, the setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
Rusty.
