Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rabbit/Manana Island over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for Rabbit/Manana Island is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is basically a write-off for decent paddle surfing. The wind is locked in from the east-northeast, and it’s howling. Every single day we’ve got cross-on or cross-shore breezes at 12 mph to 25 mph, creating lumpy, choppy, or messy conditions. The wave energy is pitifully weak for the first ten days, barely cracking 345 (combined energy), and while it does build into the second week, the wind never lets up.
The first real surfable day? There isn’t one. The first week is a total washout. Monday the 13th through to Sunday the 20th sees swell heights between 4 ft and 6 ft, but with that fresh onshore wind, it’s just a churned-up mess. The combined energy is weak, staying under 300 for most of that period. You’re looking at a flat, blown-out week.
The second week is a cruel tease. The swell actually builds. From Monday the 21st through to Monday the 28th, the swell height sticks around 5 ft to 6 ft, and the combined energy climbs from 264 all the way up to a beastly 1134 on the 28th. That’s a lot of power. But the wind—always that cross-on from the ENE or NE—keeps it ragged. The period is mostly short, around 7-8 seconds, until the 27th and 28th when it jumps to 12-14 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, but with that persistent cross-on wind, it’s going to be bumpy, straight, and frustrating. The 28th of July shows a 6 ft, 12-second swell from the ENE with a combined energy of 1134, but the wind is still a fresh cross-on 22 mph. That’s a whole lot of energy with zero quality.
Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The consistent wind and building swell would be a dream for them, but for a surfer? It’s a hard pass. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no drama there, but with the wind never dropping, there’s nothing to recommend. The best bet? Nothing. This is a blank run. It’s a bummer, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.
