Praia do Amor Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, grab your board, let’s get into it. The next couple of weeks here in our patch are looking pretty ordinary, if I’m being honest. There’s a real dry spell setting in, and we’re looking at a long stretch of pretty average to poor conditions. The water temp is sitting at a comfortable 80°, which is right about normal for this time of year, so at least a paddle won’t feel like a shock to the system.

The only break we’ve got on the cards is Praia do Amor. It’s a beginner-friendly spot that’s very consistent and exposed to swell, but the wind and swell directions have been working against it. The optimum swell direction here is from the SE, but most of what we’re seeing is coming from the E and ESE, so it’s a bit of a mismatch.

Let’s start with the opening window. On Wednesday morning, August 5th, there’s a pulse of swell at 6 ft from the ESE, with a short period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 531. But here’s the kicker – it’s a cross-shore wind from the SSE at 16 mph, and it’s got a cross-chop on it. The conditions are already marginal, and that same afternoon, the surf drops to 4 ft and the quality just tanks. It’s a no-go for a good paddle.

From Thursday the 6th all the way through to Tuesday the 18th of August, the story doesn’t change much. Swell heights hang between 2 ft and 4 ft, with periods mostly between 5 and 8 seconds – that’s short-period, weak, windswell stuff. The wind is stubborn, sitting cross-on or onshore from the E, ESE, and SE, mostly at 9 to 16 mph. The combined energy rarely pushes past 200, and the wave comments are all reading “poor surf conditions.” It’s a real grind. There’s a day on the 15th (Saturday) where the period jumps to 13 seconds, but with the swell only 2 ft to 3 ft and cross-onshore winds, it’s still not going to offer anything clean. Honestly, this stretch is a write-off for any decent surfing.

Then we roll into the second week. The end of the forecast window, around Monday, August 17th, shows a bit more action in the energy department – the combined energy hits 214 on the 16th, and 170-171 on the 17th and 18th – but the swell is still small and the period is either short (5-6 seconds) or those longer period pulses (11-12 seconds) that are hard to manage in these conditions. The wind remains a problem. It’s a lot of “gentle cross-onshore” or “moderate cross-shore with a cross-chop.” Nothing that’s going to have me rushing to the beach.

To be brutally honest, there are no standouts here. There’s no session worth highlighting. The whole 16-day window is a wash. The consistency of poor conditions is the main story. If you’re a kite surfer, the combination of moderate wind and choppy water might look interesting, but for a paddle surfer? It’s a long, quiet period. This is one of those stretches where you’re better off waiting for the forecast to change.
