The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for Mallorca - Paguera Tora.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with ya – this is a tough stretch. We’ve got a 16-day window staring at us, and honestly, the first solid week is a write-off. Looking at the data, we’re dealing with a break that is "rarely breaks", and this forecast is proving that out. The wave energy is almost non-existent for days, with readings down at (2) or (1) – that’s basically a lake. The water is way warmer than normal for this time of year at 86°, but that’s not much comfort when there’s nothing to ride.
We do finally see a pulse of energy starting to build on Thursday, the 21st of August. The afternoon sees the swell bump up to 5 ft from the SW, and the combined energy jumps to (302) – that’s a real boost of power. But here’s the kicker: the wind is onshore from the WSW at a fresh 19 mph, making it choppy and messy. This spot is wide open to the SW, so that onshore wind is gonna trash what little shape there is. At 5 ft, it’s starting to get a bit much for beginners, but with that wind, it’s not really for anyone paddling. Honestly, with that strong onshore wind and the size, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
After that, the energy drops right back down into the cellar. We get a clean moment on Saturday the 22nd morning with a light offshore breeze from the E, but the swell is only 2 ft from the SW. It’s clean, but tiny. Then there’s a long gap of nothing but tiny, weak pulses until we get to the very end of the window. Friday, the 28th of August, the morning is showing some promise with a clean, cross-offshore breeze from the NNE and a 1 ft SSE swell (12 energy). By the afternoon, the wind goes glassy from the NE, and the swell improves a touch to 2 ft from the SSE (24 energy). It’s still small, and the period is a short 6 seconds, so it won't have much push. But with glassy conditions, it's the best-looking, cleanest wave in the whole run.
So, if you’re absolutely desperate for a paddle, the standout option is the afternoon of Friday, 28th August. It’s not going to be epic, but it’ll be the cleanest surf of the period. For the rest, it’s a long wait for something that is rarely worth the hassle.
Rusty.
