Alright, let's get into it. This is your local surf outlook, just me, Rusty, givin' it to you straight for the Onrus reef break.
We've got a solid 16-day window ahead, but it ain't all gonna be a party. The first few days are looking beautiful, but there's a nasty patch of wind coming that'll shut things down for a while. Then we get a bit of hope again further out.
Starting with the standout: Saturday morning, July 4th. The water's sitting at 59°F, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so no wetsuit drama. We've got a clean, glassy 2ft swell from the SW, with a long 16-second period (453). That's proper groundswell. The wind is a gentle offshore from the NNW, so the faces will be smooth. It's a reef break that can be inconsistent, so be patient, but the quality will be worth it. Just know that crowds are sometimes an issue here.
Later that Saturday afternoon, the swell picks up to a punchier 6ft from the W, but the period drops to a quick 8 seconds. Still clean with offshore wind, but that shorter period means it'll be a bit more of a pushy, less refined wave. The energy is ramping up (829).
Sunday morning, July 5th, keeps it clean with a 2ft SW groundswell (14 seconds and 407 energy). The wind goes light and cross-off, so it's still tidy. Sunday afternoon brings a better 5ft from the W, with the period at 9 seconds and light offshore wind. A solid, clean afternoon session.
Now, Monday July 6th is where we start to lose it. The swell bumps up to 7ft (1155 energy) but the wind swings onshore from the NE. It'll be a messy, choppy affair. Not worth paddling out for.
Tuesday July 7th is a big, clean call for experienced surfers. The swell is 7ft from the SW with a sweet 12-second period (1187 to 1200 energy). Morning has offshore wind, afternoon has cross-off. This is big, powerful reef surf—too big for beginners, but for those with the skills, it's excellent.
Then it turns ugly. From Wednesday July 8th right through to the end of Friday July 11th, we're hammered by strong cross-onshore winds from the east. The swell stays up (6ft to 8ft) with a mix of moderate and high energy (1140 to 3696), but the surface will be blown-out, lumpy, and choppy. Absolute kook territory for us paddle surfers. This setup looks far more interesting for kite surfing than a standard surfboard.
We get a brief, beautiful reprieve on Sunday July 12th. The swell drops to a clean 3ft from the WSW (475 energy) and it's *glassy*. Wind is from the NW then WSW at 3 mph. It's not big, but it's perfect for a longboard.
Monday July 13th stays clean with 3ft from the SW in the morning, building to 4ft from the W in the afternoon. Good, user-friendly surf.
Tuesday July 14th sees the swell climb again to a very clean 5ft (659 energy) from the WSW, with a 9-second period. The winds are offshore and cross-off. This is looking very good again.
Wednesday July 15th turns tricky. The wind is a strong 19 mph offshore from the NNW, which sounds good, but the swell is a short-period 6ft from the S (8 seconds). It’ll be clean but chunky and raw.
The long-range call for Thursday July 16th is wild but uncertain that far out. We're looking at a massive 10ft swell from the SSE, with a short 9-second period. The wind might be offshore, but that is a *lot* of water moving for Onrus. The data flags it as too big for this break, so only for the truly insane or heavily equipped. It'll be one to watch from the cliff.
The final day with a glimmer of hope is Sunday July 19th. After a few more days of rough, onshore wind, we get a moderate offshore from the NW and a 7ft SE swell (1245 energy) with an 11-second period. This is another one for experienced surfers only, but the conditions are flagged as excellent.
So, to wrap it up: the early part of the first week (July 4 & 5) and the clean spell around July 12-14 are your best bets for clean, quality waves. The big stuff on July 7th and 19th is for the charger crew.
