Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, surfers, Rusty here, let's have a look at what's in store for us at Onrus. This is a dedicated look at that spot and nothing else, so listen up.
The upcoming stretch has some real gems, but you'll need to pick your windows carefully. The water temp is sitting at 59°, which is just a touch cooler than average for this time of year, nothing to write home about.
Things kick off on Sunday afternoon, July 5th. We’ve got a 5ft swell pushing in from the west, with a light cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is moderate at 647, and it’s calling for very good conditions. This is a solid start to the period.
Now, Monday the 6th is where it starts to get interesting, but only if you're experienced. The morning is a bit messy, but check out Monday afternoon: glassy conditions, zero wind, and a clean 7ft swell from the WSW with a period of 11 seconds. The wave energy is a solid 1080 - that's a proper amount of power. This is a standout window for anyone with some experience.
Tuesday the 7th keeps the quality high. Morning sees a 7ft SW swell with a 3 mph offshore wind, making for clean lines. The period stretches to 12 seconds, and the energy bumps up to 1188. By the afternoon, we're looking at a 7ft SW swell with a 13-second period – that’s some nice groundswell – and the energy jumps to 1632. The wind is light cross-off, keeping things clean. This whole Tuesday is a winner for intermediates and above.
Wednesday the 8th has a great morning: 7ft from the SW, 13-second period, and a light cross-off breeze. The wave energy is massive at 2070. That's some serious push. The afternoon, however, turns onshore and choppy, so you’ll want to be out early.
Thursday and Friday, the 9th and 10th, are a write-off. Strong onshore winds and messy, lumpy conditions with swell over 8ft. This is strictly for the experts if anyone, but the wind will ruin it. It looks more interesting for the kite crowd than us paddle surfers.
Saturday the 11th brings a reprieve. Saturday morning is glassy – dead calm – with a 7ft swell from the south at a long 12-second period. The energy is still high at 1743. This is another top-tier window for clean, powerful waves. The afternoon gets a bit onshore, so the morning is the clear pick.
The following week starts to fade. Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 14th have smaller, less consistent swell in the 2ft to 5ft range. The winds are mostly favorable, but the energy is low.
Monday the 13th is worth a mention for beginners, with a clean 4ft morning swell and offshore wind, and a glassy 4ft in the afternoon.
After a windy and rainy Wednesday the 15th, the second weekend shows some promise. Thursday the 16th afternoon looks good with glassy conditions and a 4ft SSW swell at a 12-second period and 758 energy, described as very good. Friday the 17th morning is absolutely glassy with a 5ft SSW swell at a 12-second period and 600 energy. That’s a great, clean option for all levels.
Now, for the standout of the entire outlook, I'm looking at Saturday the 18th of July afternoon. We’re expecting a huge 10ft swell from the WSW with a very long 14-second period. The combined energy is a massive 4311. That is a *lot* of power. However, the forecast notes the swell might be too big for this break, and it’s onshore. This is only for the most experienced, and even then, it could be a washing machine. The morning of Saturday the 18th has a clean but small 4ft swell with an insanely long 17-second period and 1189 energy, but the wind is a little cross-on. That long period will create very sety waves, best for the peak.
The outlook wraps up with Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th offering more moderate, clean conditions. Monday the 20th afternoon is a real highlight to end on: a clean 6ft WSW swell with a 13-second period, light offshore wind, and 1259 energy. That’s solid, clean surfing to close the 16-day window.
So, your absolute best bets for clean, powerful waves are Tuesday the 7th, Saturday morning the 11th, and Monday afternoon the 20th. Saturday the 18th afternoon is the big, wild, expert-only option. Keep your eye on the wind, and get on it.
Rusty.
