The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about Mosquito Bay. It's a slow burn, so don't rush.
The first few days are small and sloppy. Saturday the 25th has a weak 3ft SSE swell with a light cross-on breeze – not worth it. Sunday morning the 26th is a little better with a clean 3ft S swell and glassy conditions, but it's still nothing special. From there, it's flat and weak through to Wednesday the 30th. A real dry spell.
Then it wakes up. Thursday morning the 30th brings a solid 10ft S swell with a moderate offshore wind from the SW. The water is 64°, a touch warmer than normal. The combined energy from all swells is a massive 3240 – that's a ton of power. This is expert-only territory (over 8ft), so only for the experienced. The period is 11 seconds, which is solid groundswell.
Friday the 31st drops to a more manageable 6ft SSE, still with clean offshore wind in the morning. Good chance for a surf. Saturday morning August 1st is glassy with 5ft SE swell – clean and fun. But the standout is Sunday morning August 2nd: 6ft SE swell, 12-second period, glassy conditions, and a combined energy of 800. That's a very good looking session for Mosquito Bay. It can get crowded here sometimes.
The second week looks good. Tuesday afternoon August 4th has a clean 6ft SE swell with offshore wind. Wednesday morning August 5th is glassy with 8ft ESE swell – very clean, but getting big. For the experienced, Thursday morning August 6th is the pick: 12ft E swell, offshore wind, and a combined energy of 2154. That's excellent surf for the brave. Friday morning August 7th is also glassy with 10ft E swell, again expert only. The weekend tails off with smaller, cleaner waves on Saturday August 8th.
So, the best bets are the morning of Sunday August 2nd for clean, fun waves, and the morning of Thursday August 6th for the big stuff. The long-range calls are promising but less certain.
