Moonee Beach and Creek Surf Forecast and Surf Report

G'day, Rusty here. Look, I won't sugarcoat it – the next couple of weeks at Moonee Beach and Creek are a real mixed bag, and we've got a bit of a flat spell to work through. There's no surf to speak of right now, so we're waiting until Monday the 7th for the first proper signs of life, and even that's a shaky start. The overall pattern is a slow build to a solid pulse mid-week, then it drops away into a long, quiet stretch before a potential flicker right at the end.

Monday the 7th kicks things off with a morning session that's just barely hanging in there. We've got 5ft of SSE swell, but it's a messy cross-shore wind from the south at 6 mph, and the wave energy is moderate at 518. The water temp is a normal 68°, but honestly, the conditions are marginal at best – more of a paddle to get wet than anything you'd write home about. The afternoon drops off with onshore wind and smaller waves.

Tuesday the 8th is a no-go for me – solid 16 mph cross-off wind from the SSW in the morning, but the swell is only 5ft with a weak period, and it's just poor. The afternoon gets bigger at 6ft but the cross-shore wind chops it up. Nothing to chase there.

Now, Thursday the 10th is where things get interesting. This is the standout of the whole outlook. Both morning and afternoon serve up solid 8ft and 8ft SSE swell with a moderate period of 9-10 seconds, and the combined energy is strong – hitting 1095 and 1133. That's serious juice. The wind is cross-off in the morning from the SSW at 16 mph, keeping it clean, and cross-shore in the afternoon. This is expert territory – over 8ft, so leave the foam boards at home. It's a beach, river and point setup, so the long period (9-10 secs) groundswell will work best on the point and at the creek mouth. The break is very consistent and exposed to that SSE swell, which matches the optimum direction. It's a ripper, but expect some crowds – it's known to get busy when the swell pumps.

Friday the 11th keeps the swell up at 6ft to 7ft with solid energy in the 800s, but the cross-shore wind (13 mph from the S and SSE) puts a bit of chop on it. It's still surfable, especially for stronger surfers, but not the quality of Thursday.

Saturday the 12th morning has a clean look with 6ft swell and cross-off wind from the SSW, but the energy drops to 618. It's a decent option, but the afternoon fades with smaller waves and a gentle chop.

Then we hit a drought. From Sunday the 13th through to Thursday the 17th of September, it's small, weak, and wind-affected – waves under 4ft, poor conditions, and energy levels under 400. A solid week of flatness.

But hold on – Friday the 18th of September morning brings a surprise. We've got 5ft of S swell with a short period of 8 seconds, but the wind is a clean cross-off from the NW at 9 mph, and the wave energy is a moderate 524. The guidance says "expect very good surf conditions" – and with clean lines, that's a real bonus after the flat spell. It's not huge, but for a Friday morning session, it'll be a fun, uncrowded wave.

Then Saturday the 19th of September morning is the absolute dark horse. Only 3ft of SSE swell, but the wind is glassy – dead calm from the east at 3 mph. The combined energy is 295, so it's weak, but with glassy conditions, that tiny swell will be clean and peel nicely on the point and reef. For a longboard or a funboard, this is a gem. Expect good conditions, but it's small – perfect for a relaxed paddle.

After that, it fades right out through the end of the period, with tiny waves and onshore winds.

So, the two standouts: Thursday the 10th for the big, powerful groundswell – expert only, but a proper session if you're keen, and Saturday the 19th of September morning for the rare glassy conditions on a small, clean wave. The rest is a write-off or marginal at best.
