The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's see what's cookin' for the next couple of weeks.
It kicks off with some serious juice, but you gotta be ready. The early days have some real size, and then it just dribbles away into a long, flat spell. Don't plan anything for the second week – it's a bust.
The standout is right at the start. Monday, July 20th is the big day, but it's for the brave only. Emerald Beach is a point break, and we're looking at a solid 10ft of easterly swell with an 11-second period. That's a proper groundswell, and the combined energy is pumping at (1908). That's too big for most. For the experienced crew, it'll be a barnstormer. The wind is a cross-off from the SSE at 12 mph, keeping it pretty clean. The water is 68°, which is a bit cooler than average for this time, so you'll want a good suit. Crowds are often a problem here, so expect some company.
Come Tuesday, July 21st, the swell drops to a much more manageable 6ft, still from the east, with a 10-second period. The big news is the wind. Early morning it's a clean offshore from the SSW at 9 mph. This is where the magic is for the average surfer. It's clean, got some punch (625 energy), and won't pound you into the sand. That's the session to aim for.
Tuesday afternoon the swell backs off to 5ft and the wind swings cross-off, but the morning is the one.
From Wednesday, July 22nd, it's all downhill. The swell keeps dropping and the winds get ugly. By Thursday the 23rd, we're down to 3ft with an 8-second period – weak, short-period junk. The energy is fading fast.
After that, from about the 24th of July all the way through the end of the 16-day outlook, it's poor. Tiny waves, often under 2ft, with next to no energy. It's a long run of flat, boring days. Hang in there, forecasts can change, but for now, it's a waiting game.
Rusty, signing off.
