Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening at Emerald Beach. Honestly, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and quiet for a point break setup like this one, so don’t get your hopes up for anything epic.
We’ve got a real slow start. Nothing doing on Tuesday the 7th – just rain and a stiff southerly blowing 22 mph, no surf to speak of. That sets the tone. Wednesday the 8th is barely worth a mention: a tiny 2ft swell from the ESE with a very long 15-second period shows up in the morning, but it’s weak (142 combined energy) and the wind is cross-off from the south, so it’s clean but limp. Not worth paddling out for. Wednesday afternoon gets a touch better – 4ft from the SE, period dropping to 13 seconds and energy climbing to 418 (moderate), with offshore wind from the south at 12 mph. That’s the first window where you might get a few fun, clean waves if you’re intermediate and patient.
Thursday the 9th morning keeps things going with 4ft SE swell, 11-second period, 258 energy, and offshore SSW wind at 12 mph. Again, clean but nothing to write home about. Afternoon dies off completely – zero surf.
Friday the 10th morning offers 3ft from the SE, 13-second period, 205 energy, and a gentle offshore from the SSW at 9 mph. Clean, small, and weak. Afternoon dries up again.
Now, Saturday the 11th morning is where we get a little spark. It’s glassy – 3 mph NNW wind, dead calm – and there’s a 3ft swell from the ESE with a 12-second period and 268 energy. That’s our best moment in this whole run: clean, glassy conditions and a small but workable long-period groundswell. This point break should handle that direction nicely, so if you’re after a few tidy ones, that’s the call. Be aware though, this spot can get crowded often, so you won’t be alone.
After Saturday morning, it’s a slow decline. Sunday the 12th morning is 3ft from the SE, 10-second period, 153 energy, with cross-off SW wind – surfable but very ordinary. Sunday afternoon goes glassy but tiny at 2ft and 101 energy. From Monday the 13th onward, we’re looking at flatness or close to it: days and days of 0.3ft to 1ft slop, with occasional glassy spells but absolutely no push. Energy values drop below 100 from Monday afternoon right through to the end of the window on Wednesday the 22nd. There’s nothing there for a surfer.
So the standout is crystal clear: Saturday morning, July 11th. Glassy, 3ft from the ESE, 12-second period, and that point should offer clean little runners if you’re sharp. It won’t be big, but it’ll be the best of a quiet stretch. After that, the next week and a half is a write-off – don’t bother packing the board.
Water temp is sitting around 68°F, which is about normal for this time of year.
Rusty out.
