Alright, Rusty here, and I’ll put it in feet and miles for you.
Right now, we’re looking at a long, flat spell. The first sixteen days don’t have anything worth paddling out for. There’s no real swell, just tiny wind slop that won’t hold you up. This kind of dead run isn’t that unusual here, but it’s still frustrating when you’re itching for a wave.
The only break on the map is Melbourne Beach. The whole forecast through July is tiny. Heights barely reach 2 feet at best, mostly sitting at 0.7 feet to 2 feet, with a short 7- to 9-second period. That’s just wind chop, not a real swell. The combined energy is pathetically low, often sitting between 6 and 55 (very weak). There’s nothing that qualifies as even a mediocre surf day. The water temperature starts at a warm 85°, but with no waves, that’s irrelevant.
For the first week, morning wind windows offer occasional glass (Sunday 12th, Monday 13th, Friday 17th) or offshore conditions, but with only 0.7 feet to 1 foot on offer, you’re not catching anything. Even the cleanest morning is a flat, glassy lake. The afternoons are mostly cross-onshore and choppy. Come the second week, from around July 19th onward, the swell is even smaller, with combined energy dropping to single digits at times. The wind turns cross-offshore more often, but it doesn't matter when there's nothing to ride.
There are no standout days here, no hidden gem, no one to recommend. For the entire 16-day window, the only honest call is to leave the board in the car. Conditions may change, but based on what’s lined up, it’s a complete write-off.
Rusty.
