The Lowdown

Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s get into it.

Honestly, for Long Beach, it’s a grim outlook for the next two weeks. We’ve got a long dry spell with no real surf on the cards until Saturday, September 5th. That’s over a week with only tiny, weak, poor-quality waves and messy wind. You’re looking at a solid week of flat, choppy nothingness.

The first real glimmer comes Saturday morning, September 5th. The ENE swell bumps up to 4ft, with a period of 11 seconds. That's a proper groundswell, and the combined energy climbs to a solid 409 (moderate to strong wave energy). Best of all, it’s glassy – zero wind. That means clean, smooth lines. The swell is from the ENE, which is a little off from the break’s preferred NE, but with those conditions, it’s the standout. 4ft is a nice size for intermediates at this very consistent spot. Just be aware that crowds are often here, especially on a Saturday with clean surf. The water temp is about average for late summer, so nothing unusual to report.

Later that afternoon the wind swings onshore and messes it up, and Sunday looks a bit lumpy too. Monday the 7th brings clean offshore winds from the WNW but the swell drops right back under 3ft, so it’s small and clean but not really worth chasing.

Beyond that, the second week fades into tiny, weak, and onshore junk. Nothing else stands out. It’s one of those stretches where you wait for that Saturday morning glass-off and make the most of it.

Stay patient.
Rusty.
