The Lowdown
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s cookin’ at Praia do Ypuã (Ipua) for the next couple weeks.
We start slow, but Thursday the 10th has a little gem: 0.5m SSE groundswell with a super long 16-second period, light cross-offshore breeze, and clean faces. Water temp is 16°—much colder than usual, so suit up. The combined energy is low (346), but morning’s got a few fun ones. Crowds are possible, so beat the rush.
Friday the 11th bumps up to 1.6m from the NE, but it’s short-period wind swell at 6 seconds. Still clean in the morning with a cross-off breeze, energy is moderate (369). Not a standout, but rideable.
Saturday the 12th is a mess: 2.5m from the S, 9-second period, onshore wind, and heavy chop. The energy is huge (1752) but it’s a washing machine—better suited for kites than paddles.
Sunday the 13th morning offers 1.4m from the SE with a clean offshore, but only 8-second period and low energy (276). Rideable, but average.
The real winner is Thursday the 17th morning. That’s 1.5m from the SSE, 12-second groundswell, good energy (778), clean with a light cross-off breeze. Crowds are possible, so get there early—this is the best session of the lot.
After that, it fades. Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th stay small (0.9m to 1.0m) and clean, but only for longboards. Sunday the 20th morning has a brief 1.1m from the E with clean conditions, but wind ruins it by afternoon.
From Monday the 21st, there’s a long dry stretch of poor surf—small, chop, and onshore—until Friday the 25th morning. That day shows 1.6m from the ENE with a light offshore and clean surface, but energy is low (281) and the wind tanks it by afternoon.
The takeaway: Thursday the 17th morning is your best bet. The rest is a lot of waiting for small windows or blown-out junk.
Stay wet,
Rusty
