Alright folks, Rusty here with the long-range look for Honeymoon Island.
Alright, let's be straight up with you. The next couple of weeks are looking flat and pretty grim for Honeymoon Island. The finder file is giving us a big fat zero in the score column right the way through to the 20th of July. There's no standouts, no hidden gems here, so we've just got to call it like it is. Don't expect anything worth paddling out for. This is one of those blank runs that happens here, nothing unusual about it for this area.
Let's run through the dates. From Sunday the 5th of July right through to Saturday the 19th of July, every single session is tagged as "poor surf conditions." The combined swell energy is a measly two-digit number, barely cracking 9 or 10 on the odd afternoon. The swell heights never get above 2 ft, and that's with periods of just 2 to 5 seconds – that’s wind slop, not real surf. Plus, the wind is either onshore or cross-onshore for nearly all of it, so you can forget about any clean waves.
There is one morning, Friday the 10th of July, that looks pretty from a weather standpoint – clear skies and glassy wind from the SSW at just 3 mph. But don't get excited, because there's only a 0.3 ft swell to go with it from the NW. That's not even enough to wet your fins.
Even when we do see a bit more swell energy, like on the afternoons of the 11th and 12th of July where the combined energy hits 9, it's still just a tiny 1 ft to 2 ft south swell with a short 4-second period, and the wind is straight on it. It's just not going to be any fun.
The last few days shown, from the 18th and 19th of July, we finally see some cleaner conditions with an offshore ESE wind. The early morning of Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th look clean with that wind, and the swell ticks up to 2 ft from the SW and W. The combined energy gets up to 10 and then 14, which is the high point of the whole forecast, but with a short 4 to 5-second period, it's going to be weak and bumpy. It might be worth a very quick look if you're desperate, but it's hardly a standout, and with Honeymoon Island being a sandbar that rarely breaks, you'll be lucky to find a ripple.
The upshot? Don't bother packing your board for this one, fellas. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's a solid two weeks of no-go. Rusty signing off.
