The Lowdown
Alright, let's be real, folks. I've scanned the next 16 days and the cupboards are bare. There is no surf. It’s a total flat spell, and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. If you were hoping for a wave, this is gonna be a tough stretch.
The water's a warm 88°, which is a bit toastier than normal for the season. That’s nice for a dip, but that’s where the good news ends.
Right from Monday afternoon, it’s a heartbreaking sight at Honeymoon Island. We’ve got a tiny 1ft of weak, sloppy swell with a period of just 3 seconds. The energy is a measly 2, and the wind is blowing onshore at 12 mph, making it a total washing machine. There's just no power or shape to anything.
The first week is the same story, day in, day out. The swell never gets past 2ft, and the period hangs in that dismal 4-5 second range. The wave energy never really gets past 20, which is pathetic. Winds are mostly onshore or cross-onshore, keeping the surface a mess. It’s just poor surf conditions across the board. There was a minute on the morning of the 25th where the wind went glassy and calm, but the swell was a pathetic 0.7ft at 4 seconds, so there was absolutely nothing to even attempt to ride.
Then comes week two, and it just gets sadder. From August 26th through to September 1st, it's practically dead. The swell tries to come from the south, but the heights are only 0.3ft to 1ft. The energy numbers drop to single digits, and on the 28th, 30th, and 31st, there’s absolutely no swell at all. It's flat. There are a couple of glassy mornings, but with no swell, it’s useless.
The 1st of September shows a weak 1ft pulse from the WNW, but the period is still a dismal 5 seconds. The wind goes onshore in the afternoon at 16 mph, just to finish the job.
Honestly, this is a normal blank run for this spot. It happens. With a break that’s this inconsistent, you gotta expect stretches like this. The one thing I’ll say is that it usually doesn’t stay this bad for long, and the forecasts can change on a dime. But for the next 16 days? I'd leave the boards in the garage and maybe take up windsurfing. There’s just nothing to paddle out for.
Rusty, signing off.
