The Lowdown
Alright, this is a tough one to call, but I'll lay it out as I see it. Let's be straight with you – the outlook for Honeymoon Island over the next 16 days is pretty bleak. We're looking at a long stretch of flat to tiny, choppy, and generally poor conditions. There are no real standouts, no days where I'd be stoked to paddle out. The first few days are a write-off, and after that, it's a long, quiet run.
The water is very warm right now, clocking in at 89°F with a positive anomaly of 4°F. That's substantially warmer than usual for this time of year at Honeymoon Island (a sandbar), so don't expect any of that refreshing cool water.
Let's start with the first sniff of anything. On Wednesday, August 19th, we have the most "energy" for the whole window, a combined swell energy of 23. But it's a junk 3 ft swell from the WNW with a short, weak period of 4 seconds. The wind is a cross-on from the WNW at 9 mph, making it fairly choppy. It's a poor surf day. The afternoon gets worse with stronger wind. Thursday the 20th is even smaller, with a 2 ft swell and a cross-on wind. The pattern just repeats: tiny waves, crummy winds, and poor surf conditions. The best looking wind comes on the morning of Saturday, August 29th, with a glassy calm, but the swell is a measly 1.0 ft – it's essentially flat. The morning of Sunday, August 30th, has a clean, light offshore from the ENE at 3 mph, but again, the swell is only 0.7 ft. You might get a knee-high ripple, but it's nothing to chase.
After that, from the end of August right through to September 3rd, the combined energy drops to zero for days on end. It's a long, flat spell. For a spot like this that rarely breaks, this kind of blank run is, unfortunately, par for the course. Given the tiny, weak swell and cross-to onshore winds, if you're into kite surfing, the setup might be more interesting than for paddle surfing. But for wave riding, you're better off finding something else to do. The forecasts can change, but right now, there's nothing to get excited about.
