Table - best surf conditions forecast for Harlyn over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next sixteen days at Harlyn are a tough watch. The forecast is basically a run of small, weak swell and poor conditions, with nothing really worth paddling out for. The one break we’ve got to look at is Harlyn itself, and it’s a sheltered beginner spot that’s inconsistent, so a blank run like this isn’t a total shock for the area.
Let’s start from Tuesday morning, July 7th. We’ve got a tiny 2ft swell rolling in from the west, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is weak at 81, and it’s a cross-on wind from the WNW at 6 mph. The whole setup is just messy – poor surf. The water temp is a touch warmer than normal at 62°, but that’s about the only interesting thing. Tuesday afternoon is even smaller at 2ft, and the wind picks up to 9 mph, turning it cross-shore and choppy.
Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are more of the same. We see a tiny bump in energy on Thursday morning to 126 (moderate), with a 3ft swell from the WNW and a period of 10 seconds, but the wind is onshore from the NNE at 6 mph. It’s still poor. Friday the 10th has a similar story – 3ft swell with 138 energy – but again, cross-on wind and crummy conditions.
The whole first week is a dud. Saturday the 11th has a 2ft swell with a 10-second period, light onshore breeze, but it’s just not enough to make anything of it. By Sunday the 12th, the swell drops right off to 2ft from the north, period down to 6 seconds, and the energy is a weak 55. The wind is a moderate cross-onshore at 12 mph. It’s choppy and small.
There is a glimmer of clean conditions Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th, with a cross-offshore wind from the east at 22 mph, but the swell is still tiny – 3ft and 2ft, periods around 6 seconds. The energy is weak, in the 60s and 70s. Too clean and small to bother with. On Tuesday afternoon, the period jumps to 18 seconds, which is a very long groundswell, but the swell height is only 0.7ft. That’s a non-event.
The rest of the second week holds no hope. From Wednesday the 15th right through to Wednesday the 22nd, it’s all small, weak, and often choppy or blown out. The only half-decent wind we see is on Sunday the 19th morning, with a moderate offshore breeze from the SSE at 12 mph, but the swell is a pathetic 1ft with a 9-second period and energy of 41. It’s not enough to surf.
Honestly, if you’re looking for paddle surfing, there’s nothing here. The setup is so small and weak that it’s far more interesting for a kite surfer than a surfer. Stay patient, forecasts can change, but right now, the boards stay on the roof.
