Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gonna be honest with you, looking at the next couple of weeks at Harlyn, it’s a tough watch. The finder doesn’t throw up any recommendations, and the data backs that up. We’ve got a long stretch ahead with pretty much nothing doing.
Right from the get-go, Tuesday the 7th, it’s small and weak. We’re looking at knee-high, 2ft swell from the west with a period around 9 seconds. The combined energy is a paltry 81, so barely a whisper of power. The wind is a light cross-onshore, which just adds a bit of texture to an already poor wave. The water temp is sitting at 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but with nothing to ride, it doesn’t matter much.
This flat spell is gonna drag on. Wednesday and Thursday the 8th and 9th see the swell bumping up just slightly, still small and messy. The winds swing onshore, keeping things choppy and unappealing. The energy finally gets into triple digits on the 9th (116 combined energy), but it’s still poor quality. We go right through that first week and into the second, with barely any surf to speak of. The swell stays small, the winds are often onshore or cross-shore, and the periods are short. We get a bit of clean, cross-offshore wind on the afternoon of the 13th and 14th, but the swell is so tiny it’s hardly worth the paddle.
There’s a moment on Friday the 17th morning where things go glassy – absolute flat calm – with a small 2ft pulse from the north, but the period is a weak 6 seconds. It’s surfable for a complete beginner on a foamie, but for anyone else, it’s a scratch.
The best of a bad bunch looks like it *might* be Wednesday the 22nd. We see the swell nudge up to 3ft from the northwest, with a combined energy of 76. The wind is a light cross-onshore again, so at least it’s not a mess. But let’s not kid ourselves, that’s still a pretty poor wave. This is a sheltered spot, and right now, it’s living up to its name – too sheltered. Honestly, for kite surfing, you’d probably have more fun on a few of those afternoons with stronger winds, but for a paddle surfer, it’s a lean run of form.
This is just how it goes here sometimes. The forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get excited about.
Stay patient.
Rusty
