Table - best surf conditions forecast for Harlyn over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s be real here. I’ve looked at the whole 16-day window and honestly, it’s a tough stretch for Harlyn. The forecast is basically a long run of small, weak, and often messy conditions. We’re talking about a solid two weeks where the waves just aren’t cooperating. The only real pulse of size comes in the second week, but even then, the wind is going to be a major factor.
Let’s start with the next few days. From Sunday the 12th through the middle of the week, it’s all small stuff. We’re looking at knee-to-waist high waves at best, with a lot of cross-shore wind. The energy is weak, sitting in the 30s to 50s (51 on Sunday morning). It’s just not worth getting wet for.
There’s a tiny glimmer on Tuesday afternoon, the 14th, when the wind goes light and cross-offshore, and the period jumps to 11 seconds, but the swell is only 1 foot. That’s a long period for such a tiny wave – it’ll be clean but barely breaking. Then Wednesday morning the 15th goes glassy, but again, the swell is only 2 feet. It’s frustrating.
The real story is the end of the second week. The biggest surf arrives on Thursday the 23rd and Sunday the 26th of July. On Thursday the 23rd, the swell jumps to 8 feet from the NNW with a short period of 7 seconds, and the energy cranks up to 539. That’s moderate-to-strong energy. The wind is cross-off and strong, but the comment says “clean.” That’s the standout for experienced surfers. It’s a big, powerful, short-period swell that’s going to be a handful. Beginners should stay well clear – that’s expert territory.
Then on Sunday the 26th, we get another pulse: 7 feet swell from the W, again with an 8-second period, and energy at 617. The wind is cross-off and fresh, keeping it clean. That’s another big, powerful day for the more experienced crew.
The water temperature is a notable feature here. It’s running at 66°F with a +5° anomaly, which is much warmer than normal for the time of year. You won’t need a thick wetsuit.
Because this is a sheltered spot and the consistent breaks are almost non-existent in this forecast, the setup on the big days (23rd and 26th) with the strong cross-off winds might actually be more interesting for kite surfing than for a standard paddle session.
So, the long and short of it: forget the first two weeks. The best on offer are the two big, clean, expert-only days on Thursday 23rd and Sunday 26th. Everything else is a write-off.
