Table - best surf conditions forecast for Harlyn over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Harlyn over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a tough stretch ahead. Looking at the whole 16-day window, there’s really only one moment that gets the heart rate up, and even that has its issues. For the most part, we’re looking at a long, flat spell. From now all the way through to the 21st of July, there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The surf is small, the winds are messy, and the energy just isn't there. The buoys would be showing a whole lot of nothing.
We’ve got a glimmer of hope on the 22nd of July. The morning at Harlyn is the standout. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 64°F, so it’s a bit of a pleasant surprise. We’re looking at a clean 4ft swell rolling in from the WNW, with a 9-second period. The big news is the wind: a light offshore from the south. That’s going to groom the waves nicely – glassy, clean lines. The combined energy is moderate (259), so there’s enough push to get some fun rides on the right bank. The swell direction is a perfect match for what Harlyn likes to see. It’s not huge, so it’s not going to be a classic, but after that long wait, it’s the only real option. The crowds are often a factor here, so expect some company in the water.
The rest of the period after that is a mix of onshore winds, short-period windswell, and poor conditions. The waves get a bit bigger around the 24th and 25th, with 6ft and 6ft swells, but the wind is all wrong, blowing cross or cross-on, and the period is too short. It’s going to be a mess of a closeout. The 25th has some serious energy (503), but it’s wasted on choppy, blown-out waves. This kind of setup is honestly more interesting for the kite surfers than for us paddle surfers.
So, bottom line: if you’re desperate for a wave, the 22nd of July morning is your shot. Get there early, hope for that offshore to hold, and make the most of it. Otherwise, it’s a long wait for very little reward.
Rusty.
