The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the Harlyn surf forecast for the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it's a quiet stretch for this spot. We're looking at a long run of tiny, weak waves, and the first real chance of something surfable is a long way off.
The first few days are a write-off. From Wednesday the 15th right through to Friday the 24th, we're seeing nothing but flat, poor conditions. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1ft to 2ft, and the energy is pathetic, barely registering on the scale. The only thing worth noting is a glassy morning on Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd, but with waves that small, it's still a lake. You'd be better off finding a swimming pool.
Now, a glimmer of hope. On Saturday the 25th of July, the swell finally shows some signs of life. We get a jump to 5ft from the NNW, with combined energy hitting 245 (moderate). That's a proper lump of water for Harlyn. The problem? The wind is cross-on, so it's going to be a bit choppy. For a sheltered spot like this, that's a bit of a bummer. Still, it's the biggest pulse of the whole forecast. The period is short at 6 seconds, so it's windswell, not the cleanest lines, but for a beach break, it might just offer some fun, punchy waves. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
The next day, Sunday the 26th, the swell drops back to 3ft, but the wind switches to a cross-off, which cleans things up nicely. That could be a sneaky good session if you're not fussy about size. The pulse is fading fast though.
After that, we're back to tiny waves and flatness for the rest of the month. Wednesday the 30th has a morning of offshore wind, but the swell is a measly 0.6ft. Not worth getting wet for.
So, the standout here is not a classic. It's a one-day spike. Saturday the 25th of July is the only day with a real swell of 5ft, but that cross-on wind will make it a battle. If you're desperate, you might get a few, but it's not a lock. The Sunday the 26th, with the clean cross-off wind and a smaller 3ft swell, could be the more pleasant session of the two. Given the lack of consistency and that Harlyn is inconsistent anyway, this is a pretty normal quiet spell for the area. Don't hold your breath.
Rusty.
