Table - best surf conditions forecast for Harlyn over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the table for Harlyn over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a bleak start. We’re looking at a long stretch of nothing much. From now through the 23rd of July, there’s barely a whisper of surf worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, weak, and the wind is mostly messy. The best you’ll get is a few knee-high slopey waves with a cross-shore chop, and the combined energy barely touches 96. That’s not surf, that’s a float. Don’t bother.
The only real glimmer on the horizon is towards the end of the run. On Friday the 24th of July, things finally wake up. The morning sees a solid pulse of swell hitting 6.9 ft from the west, with a decent period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 408 (moderate), so there’s some push. The wind is light cross-onshore from the WNW, so it’ll be a bit bumpy, but there’s power. That’s pretty big for Harlyn – definitely too big for beginners, and the period is a bit short, so it’ll be a bit crumbly and racy. The afternoon gets even bigger, with a 11.5 ft swell from the west, but the wind goes onshore from the NNW. That’s expert-only territory, and it’s going to be a wild, walled-up mess. The water temp is sitting at 64.2°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick suit.
After that, Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th see the swell drop back to the 3.6 ft to 5.9 ft range. The window on Sunday morning is the pick of the post-surge period: a 3.6 ft westerly swell, clean cross-offshore wind from the SW, and the combined energy is 199. It’s not a standout, but it’s the most ridable we get. The best on offer all window is the Friday morning session if you’re up for a challenge and don’t mind a bit of wind chop. It’s the only real punch of power in the whole forecast.
So, to sum it up: a long, flat spell, then a short, punchy pulse on the 24th that’s for the experienced crew, and a couple of cleanish smaller days to finish. Keep your eye on that Friday if you’re hungry.
