Table - best surf conditions forecast for Harlyn over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – it’s a tough run ahead for this corner of the coast. The next fortnight is looking mostly flat, weak, and messy, so don’t be hanging your hopes on much until we get right into the tail end of the window.
Harlyn is your only option on the cards, and it’s a sheltered beginner’s spot that’s westerly facing. Right now, there’s practically nothing doing. The first real signs of life don’t show up until late in the period. For the first week and a bit, the swell is small, the wind is mostly cross or onshore, and the wave energy is low – often under 100, just weak little pulses. There’s a stretch from July 10th through to July 21st where the surf is consistently poor. It’s a long, flat spell.
Now, the one standout – and I mean the *only* one that gets the heart beating a little – arrives on July 22nd. Wednesday morning and afternoon see a bump in swell from the west at about 5ft to 6ft, but more importantly, the wind goes light cross-offshore from the SE to ESE, and the wave energy jumps into moderate territory (around 339–342). The water temperature here is a touch warmer than normal for July, sitting around 64°F, which is a nice little bonus. That Wednesday window offers the cleanest, most surfable conditions of the whole 16 days. It’s not huge, but after all that nothing, it’ll feel like a gift.
Wind stays clean-ish on the 23rd and 24th too, with swell holding around 4ft to 5ft and more moderate energy (206–259), but the wind swings around a bit stronger, and there’s more chop. Still, if you’re after any halfway decent wave, focus on July 22nd and maybe the 23rd morning.
Crowds at Harlyn can be an issue when it’s good, so don't expect to have it to yourself. Because it’s inconsistent by nature, when that Wednesday window opens, it’ll draw a crowd.
To sum it up: the first 12 days are a write-off. Save your energy for July 22nd and 23rd – that’s your best bet, and it’s not much, but it’s clean and rideable.
Stay patient.
Rusty.
