The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s talk about what’s coming up, but in feet and miles and all that.
Frankly, this stretch is a write-off for a long time. There’s no surf worth talking about right now, and we’ve got a solid ten-day gap before anything even vaguely rideable appears. The first session that might be worth a mention is on Wednesday, 29 July.
So on that Wednesday morning, Harlyn might just about be an option. The swell is tiny, only about 3ft, coming from the WNW, and the period is just 6 seconds – short-period wind swell, no power behind it. The combined energy is still weak (108). The wind is light and coming from the WSW, giving us some cross-offshore flow, and it’s described as clean. That’s your one bright spot. Water temp is around 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a nice little bonus. But the waves are small, the break is inconsistent, and it’s sheltered from the WNW swell. This is only for beginners who are really keen to get wet. Nothing special.
After that one session, it’s back to poor conditions for the rest of the forecast. The wind goes onshore again, the swell stays small and weak, and the surf is just not happening. Even when we get a longer-period swell – like on the morning of 1 August with a 10-second period from the WNW – the onshore wind and tiny 2ft swell kill it. Combined energy (94) is still low.
So, the only standout – and I’m being generous – is that Wednesday, 29 July morning at Harlyn. Beginners might get a clean little wave, but that’s it. Not a memorable session.
Rusty.
