Table - best surf conditions forecast for Harlyn over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next week and a half or so is gonna be a tough stretch. We’re looking at a pretty big gap of days with no real reason to get excited. From now until about the 18th of July, the surf is mostly small, weak, and messy. You’ll see a lot of days with poor surf conditions, and the wave energy is just not there. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Saturday morning, July 11th, when Harlyn wakes up to some glassy conditions – that’s a major plus. The swell is only 2ft from the west with a period of 10 seconds, but that glassy wind is a treat. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. Don’t get your hopes up too high.
After that, it’s back to the doldrums. The winds turn onshore and cross-onshore, the swell stays small and weak, and the energy readings are all under 100. It’s a proper lull.
Then things start to look... interesting. Monday morning, July 20th is where the real standout sits. This is the one to circle on the calendar. Harlyn is looking at a solid 6ft swell from the north, with a period of 6 seconds. The combined swell energy is a strong 499 – that’s some proper juice for this spot. And the best part? The wind is glassy from the ESE. That means clean, open faces. This is the best on offer, hands down. The water temperature is sitting at 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year – nothing wild, but a nice little bonus.
Keep in mind, though, that 6ft swell is getting a bit too big for beginners, so only take that out if you’ve got some time in the water. Also, that north swell is a little off the optimum direction for Harlyn (which loves a WNW), so it might not be firing at its absolute perfect angle, but the size and the glassy conditions should still make for some fun waves.
Before that, on Sunday morning, July 19th, there is a little pulse: 3ft from the west, period of 8 seconds, and glassy conditions again. The energy is moderate at 196. It’s surfable, but it’s nowhere near as good as that Monday session.
After Monday, the wind gets nasty again, blowing 30 km/h (19 mph) from the NNW on Tuesday, which will chop things right up. The swell picks up a little on Sunday the 19th afternoon with a 6ft NW swell, but it’s onshore and messy.
So, long story short: wait it out. This is a spot where you have to be patient. The forecast can always change for the better, but as it stands, the only real session worth chasing is that Monday morning, July 20th. Be there early for the cleanest waves.
Rusty.
