Table - best surf conditions forecast for Harlyn over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a pretty flat stretch ahead. The swell window is just not lining up for Harlyn. We’ve got a long wait ahead of us, with nothing really worth paddling out for until the very end of the period. The first week and a half is mostly a write-off, but there’s a flicker of hope if you’re patient.
The first real surf to speak of is on Saturday afternoon, the 11th of July. The swell is tiny, just 2ft from the WNW, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is weak (86). The saving grace is the wind is glassy, which is a beautiful thing. It’ll be surfable, but very ordinary – one for the longboard if you’re desperate for a paddle.
After that, the conditions get messy again. The wind swings onshore or cross-shore for days, and the swell drops even further. The water temp is currently 62°, which is a touch warmer than normal for July, so at least you won’t freeze.
The only real standout, and I mean the *only* one, lands on Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st of July. Monday afternoon, the wind turns clean and cross-offshore, and the swell finally has a bit of push at 4ft from the north. The combined energy kicks up to a moderate 106. This is the biggest swell of the window. It’s still short period at 5 seconds, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and weak, but the clean wind will make it the best we’ve got. The north swell direction is not ideal for Harlyn, which is sheltered from that direction, so it’s a bit of a gamble. The wind on Tuesday gets strong and messy again, so Monday is the one to circle.
Crowds are noted as often at Harlyn, so if you do head out on that Monday, expect company. The break is also inconsistent, so don’t expect a set every minute.
The rest of the forecast is a bust. A lot of days with no surf to speak of, and on the 23rd of July, we’re back to tiny, messy junk.
Bottom line: don’t hold your breath for the next week. The only real hope is Monday the 20th of July, and even then, it’s a short-period, marginal swell with a tricky direction. It’s not the kind of setup that gets the heart racing, but it’s all we’ve got.
Rusty.
