The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk about Hangers. I’ve looked at the whole 16‑day window, and honestly, there’s just nothing worth paddling out for. Every single slot comes back as “poor surf conditions” – tiny swell, messy wind, or both. The break itself is a beach‑and‑reef setup that’s fairly consistent and meant for advanced surfers, but this stretch is a total dud. The combined wave energy is weak across the board – most readings are under 100 (like 18, 43, 48) with only one afternoon bumping into the low hundreds (125 on July 27th afternoon), but even then the swell height is only 2 ft and the wind is cross‑offshore, so it’s not delivering anything decent.
The water temperature on the first morning (July 19) sits at 84°F, which is normal for the time of year – no anomaly there. The wind does go glassy on the morning of July 23, and there are a few clean offshore windows later on (July 26–31), but the swell is tiny – 1 ft to 2 ft at best. Short period too, mostly 4–9 seconds, so no real power. Even when the period stretches to 8–9 seconds, the energy is still too low. It’s the kind of flat spell where you’d be better off waxing your board and waiting.
For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a rare blank run. Forecasts can change, but right now there’s no standout day at all. I’d keep an eye on the long‑range – sometimes a pulse of NE swell (which is the optimum direction for Hangers) could pop up, but nothing in this data. So, sorry folks, save the petrol and maybe go for a fish instead.
