The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, with the same story in feet and knots.
Looking at the 16-day window for Hangers, it’s a long, quiet stretch. The first real chance to even think about paddling out doesn’t show up until Tuesday the 28th of July, and even then, it’s barely a whisper. From now until then, it’s a massive gap of nothing but small, weak, and mostly messy conditions. The wind is often onshore or cross-on, and the swell heights barely tickle 2ft. The combined energy stays below 100 (weak) for almost the entire period. It’s a tough run for a spot that’s fairly consistent, but this is one of those blank spells that can happen.
Tuesday morning, July 28th – this is the one to bookmark. We finally see a tiny pulse of energy. The swell picks up to 2ft from the east, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy creeps up to 82 (still weak), but the wind is light and offshore from the SSW, making it clean. The water temp is sitting at 86°, which is about average for this time of year. It’s small, it’s ordinary, but it’s surfable. Hangers (beach and reef) is pretty exposed to the east-northeast, which matches the swell direction reasonably well. This is a spot for advanced surfers, and with the tiny size, it won’t be a challenge, but it’s the only window where the conditions aren’t completely blown out.
Wednesday morning, July 29th is a similar story: 2ft from the east-southeast, light offshore wind from the southwest, and clean. It’s a bit smaller, but still a better bet than anything else on offer.
Honestly, if you’re desperate for a paddle, the 28th morning is your best shot. The rest of the window is a write-off with cross-on breezes and junk. For a beach-and-reef setup like this, with the wind and tiny swell, it’s looking more like a kiteboarding session than a surf. Keep an eye on the forecasts, though – things can change.
Rusty out.
