Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening at our only spot for a while, Hangers.
Honestly, it's a lean stretch ahead. We've got a solid 16-day window from now, but the first real opportunity doesn’t kick off until the morning of Tuesday, July 7th, and even then, it’s a tough sell. The swell is tiny, barely pushing 1 ft from the ESE with a period around 9 seconds. The energy is weak, sitting at just (27), and it’s not making for any kind of decent wave. Conditions are clean in the morning with a light cross-off breeze, but the surf quality is poor. Tuesday afternoon gets choppy with a risk of thunderstorms and a cross-on breeze, so no good there.
Wednesday the 8th is more of the same: tiny 1.0-1 ft ESE swell, weak energy, and poor surf in both sessions. The mornings offer clean conditions, but it’s just not enough to get excited about. Thursday the 9th sees the swell creep up to 1 ft, but with energy at (34), it’s still a dud. The morning is clean with a slight cross-off breeze, but the waves are just too small and weak.
Friday the 10th is the same story: 1-2 ft, short period around 8 seconds, and weak energy (47 max). It’s a beach-and-reef setup, and with that tiny, weak swell and cross-on winds, it honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing right now. The afternoons are choppy across the board.
Saturday the 11th morning is a tease – we get glassy conditions with a 1 ft ESE swell and a period of 8 seconds. But the energy is still just (29), and it’s poor-quality surf. That glassy morning window is the best you’ll see in the first week, but the waves are barely there. Sunday the 12th morning finally shows some offshore wind out of the W at 6 mph, with clean conditions and a 1 ft ESE swell, but energy is (24). It’s still tiny. The afternoon picks up a bit with a 2 ft E swell and (37) energy, but it’s messy with cross-shore winds.
Monday the 13th is your one standout in this whole period. The morning has moderate offshore wind (W at 12 mph) and clean conditions on a 1 ft ESE swell, but the real highlight is the afternoon: 2 ft swell from the E, period of 8 seconds, with gentle offshore wind (W at 9 mph) keeping it smooth. Energy hits (39), which is the best we’ve seen. It’s still small – too small for any real power – but for a photo session or just getting wet, that’s the pick of the bunch. Crowds are possible here at Hangers, so you might have some company.
From Tuesday the 14th onwards, it goes downhill fast. The swell drops to 0.7 ft, energy falls into the teens, and it’s all poor conditions. Tuesday the 14th through to Sunday the 19th offer mostly clean mornings with offshore or cross-off breezes, but the waves are essentially flat. By the second week, from Wednesday the 22nd, it’s more of the same – 1 ft swell, clean mornings, but zero energy to ride.
Overall, there’s no real surf to chase here. The only day worth a look is Monday afternoon, July 13th, for a tiny but clean wave with a bit of offshore wind. Everything else is just poor surf conditions, weak energy, and no size. For an advanced break that’s fairly consistent, this is a rare dry spell. The water temp is about average for July, nothing abnormal to report.
Rusty out.
