Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hangers over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – this is a quiet stretch for Hangers. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a flat spell, with only tiny waves on offer. The combined swell energy barely cracks double figures most days, sitting in the weak range (18 down to 6). There’s a bit of a run from Saturday the 12th through to Thursday the 17th where the energy picks up slightly, but still nothing to get excited about. After that, it drops away again. You’re looking at gaps of several days with no real surf to recommend.
Water temp at the start is 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – about 2° above average, so a bit of a warm bath.
The only spot on the radar is Hangers, a beach and reef setup. It’s fairly consistent, but that doesn’t mean much when the swell is this small. The optimum swell direction is from the NE, but we’re getting tiny ESE swell all through – never above 2ft. The period is short, mostly 8 seconds, so it’s weak, crumbly, local windswell, not the kind of groundswell that gives you a proper wave.
Morning of Tuesday the 14th offers a glimmer: glassy conditions with the wind basically dead calm, but the swell is only 1.0ft with 16 units of energy. It’s clean, but you’ll be scratching for a ride. The pick of the bunch might be Wednesday morning the 22nd, where we get a small bump to 2ft from the ESE with a 7-second period, and clean offshore wind from the W (15 mph). The energy is still weak at 48, but it’s the best on offer. Still, at under 5ft, it’s fine for beginners.
There’s a couple of mornings with light offshore or cross-off breezes – like the 18th, 19th, and 22nd – but the swell is tiny. Honestly, if you’re a kitesurfer, the cross-on and cross-off wind days might be more interesting than paddle surfing. For the rest of us, it’s a waiting game. Forecasts change, and it tends not to stay this poor for long, but for now, don’t rush.
Rusty.
