The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's on offer for the upcoming stretch.
Honestly, it's a quiet run for Hangers. The whole 16-day window looks pretty flat and unexciting. We're kicking off on Thursday, August 20th, and for a solid week and a half, we're looking at tiny, weak waves. The swell direction is mostly out of the East to ESE, but the size is a measly 1 ft to 2 ft with short periods, and the combined energy is weak, sitting in the double digits (15-60). The water's a touch warmer than normal at 87°F, so that's nice for a paddle, but the surf just isn't there.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Sunday, August 23rd. The afternoon sees a little bump in energy to 117, with a 2 ft ESE swell stretching out to a 12-second period. That's a longer period groundswell, which means it'll have a bit more push, but at 2 ft, it's still a knee-high affair. The morning is cleaner with a light WSW offshore, but the afternoon gets choppy with a cross-onshore wind.
We get another small pulse on Saturday, August 29th. The morning sees a 2 ft ESE swell, but the energy is weak at 60, and the wind is a light cross-onshore from the NE. The afternoon turns onshore, killing any chance of clean waves.
The best we can point to is the smallest glimmer on Friday, August 28th. The morning is clean with a light cross-offshore wind from the SSW and a 1 ft ESE swell. The energy is still weak at 44, but it's about as clean as it gets. The afternoon jumps up to a 2 ft swell with moderate energy (104), but the cross-onshore wind will make it a messy, choppy mess. For a break that's a beach and reef setup, those short, weak swells just aren't going to shape up.
For a full list of days, the wave comment is "poor surf conditions" every single time. The Saturday morning the 29th is the only time the NE wind is the optimum direction, but it's a cross-on and the swell is tiny. If you're desperate for a paddle, you could try the glassy morning on Tuesday, August 25th, where the 0.7 ft swell is a ghost, but at least it's glassy. For anyone looking for a proper wave, this is a blank run. It's a tough stretch for the area.
