The Lowdown
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Hangers over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you, mate – this is a tough stretch. We’re looking at a real flat spell, and honestly, there’s barely a ripple worth getting excited about for days on end.
The first recommendation isn’t until the afternoon of Wednesday, July 15th, and even then, it’s a bit of a struggle. The swell is tiny, just 2 feet from the East, with a short 7-second period, giving us weak wave energy. It’s surfable but very ordinary. The wind is a cross-off from the SW at 9 mph, keeping it clean, but there’s just no push. After that, it’s back to poor conditions with nothing doing until Thursday, July 23rd.
The afternoon of Thursday the 23rd sees a slight improvement. We get 2 feet from the ESE, period still short at 8 seconds, and a bit more energy. The wind swings cross-off from the SSW at 9 mph, so it’s clean again, but these are tiny, weak waves. It’s surfable, but you’ll be working hard for nothing.
Honestly, over this whole 16-day window, there’s nothing that stands out as good surf. The swell never gets above 2 feet, the period is short, and the wind is often onshore or side-on. For any seasoned surfer, this is a write-off. At 2 feet, it’s not even big enough to be a problem for beginners, it’s just… flat. With the persistent onshore flow and tiny, weak swell, this setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
The water temperature anomaly isn’t listed for the first break, so I can’t tell you if it’s warmer or cooler than average. But it doesn't really matter when there's no surf to paddle out in.
Keep the sticks in the car and save the energy for another week. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a long blank run.
