Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what’s on offer for Gorleston-on-Sea over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the outlook for the next 16 days is pretty bleak. We’ve got a solid gap from now through to around the 10th of July with nothing worth paddling out for. The first sniff of a wave comes on Friday the 10th, but even then, it’s only small, short-period windswell from the east at 3 ft to 3 ft, and with strong onshore winds, it’ll be a sloppy mess. The combined energy is only around 29 to 30 (weak), so not much push.
That easterly windswell hangs around into the weekend of the 11th and 12th, with heights up to 4 ft, but the period remains short (5-6 seconds), and the wind stays cross-onshore or onshore. The water temperature is currently much warmer than normal for the time of year at 64°, which would be nice if the waves were clean, but they won't be. This is a beach setup, and with the poor quality and strong wind, it’s honestly looking more like a kite-surfing session than a paddle-surfing one by Sunday afternoon when the energy creeps to 107 (moderate).
The biggest swell of the period shows up around Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th, with 5 ft from the northeast and energy climbing to 159 (moderate). But again, it’s short-period (6-7 seconds), and we’ve got fresh cross-onshore or cross-shore winds. That’s lumpy, bumpy, and hard to love. This is for experienced surfers only, and even then, it won’t be pretty.
Towards the end of the run, on Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th, we see a slight improvement. Swell drops to 2 ft to 2 ft, period stretches to 7 seconds, and we get some offshore or even glassy conditions on the Sunday morning. The energy is weak (28-40), but if you’re desperate, the early Sunday session on the 19th with glassy conditions could offer a few clean little waves. Don't expect much—this break is inconsistent at the best of times, and crowds are sometimes around, so you might have company for those dribbly waves.
Overall, there are no standout days here. The best of a bad bunch is the Sunday morning on the 19th of July if you want a clean, tiny wave.
Rusty.
