The Lowdown
Alright, let’s be straight with you. This is a tough stretch for our shores. The 16-day window is looking pretty flat and uninspiring, and honestly, there’s not a single standout session that’s going to get the heart racing. We’ve got a long gap of poor conditions right through the start, with a few flickers of hope that never quite turn into a proper swell.
The only real spot worth mentioning is Gorleston on Sea. It’s inconsistent, and it rarely breaks with any real quality. The water is sitting at 68°F, which is a massive 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a big anomaly, and it’ll feel like a warm bath. The combined swell energy is weak for most of the period, with the highest reading hitting just 166 (moderate) on the 25th of August, but that’s paired with a messy, onshore wind.
The best of a pretty average bunch comes on the morning of Sunday the 23rd of August. We’ve got a glassy, clean condition, with a tiny 2ft swell from the NNE, but the period is a short 9 seconds. The energy is only 80 (weak), so it’s surfable but very ordinary. The wind is dead calm, so it’ll be a smooth surface, but don’t expect any power. After that, it’s back to a long run of poor surf, with small, weak swells and mostly onshore or cross-shore winds. The morning of the 3rd of September offers a 3ft swell from the NNE with a 7-second period, and moderate offshore winds, but again, it’s nothing to write home about.
If you’re itching for a paddle, the Sunday morning (23rd August) is your only real window. Otherwise, conditions are better suited for a kite session if the wind picks up, rather than a surf. The next few weeks are looking like a write-off.
