The Lowdown
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
It's a pretty quiet stretch for the foreseeable future, I'm not gonna lie. The swells that do show up are small, short-period, and the wind is mostly a mess. We're looking at a run of days with no decent surf on offer, so you'll have to be patient. The first real chance of anything isn't until the 19th of July, and even then, it's a serious 'maybe'.
Let's start with Gorleston on Sea. The water is a very unusual 66°, which is a massive 6° above what's normal for this time of year - that's a real anomaly. The issue is that for the first week, from the 13th right through to the 18th, we're stuck with a stiff 19 mph NE breeze that's cross-onshore, making everything lumpy and choppy. The swell is tiny, mostly 3 ft to 4 ft, and that short period of 5 to 6 seconds means it's gutless, with weak energy (between 43 and 105). The 19th of July has a slightly better looking swell, with a period of 9 seconds for a bit more shape, and the combined energy reaches 151, but it's still a pretty poor prospect with that cross-shore wind. The 20th of July shows a light 6 mph easterly breeze, which is onshore, and the swell drops right off again.
To be honest, the whole 16-day window is a write-off for a proper surf. The best wind we see is a few pockets of offshore or glassy conditions, like on the 22nd of July morning with a glassy surface, but there’s no swell to go with it - just 0.3 ft. The 23rd through to the 28th has more small, weak swells, never getting above 3 ft, and the wind is all over the place. The conditions are just too small and messy to get excited about. There's no standout session here, no big swell to chase, just a lot of flat, choppy water. It's a tough one to call.
Stay patient, keep an eye on the charts. Rusty.
