Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fort Lauderdale 14th Street over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s call it like it is: the next 16 days are a total flat spell for Fort Lauderdale 14th Street. Nothing’s breaking through. The first chance at anything rideable arrives late, and even then it’s tiny.
The water temp is sitting at 87°F right now, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – adds a tropical feel but won’t save the surf.
From Wednesday, July 8th through the weekend, and all the way through the following week, we’re looking at tiny, weak waves. The few pulses come from the SE or S, with heights barely scraping 2 ft to 3 ft, and short period windswell around 5 seconds. The combined energy is weak, usually between 30 and 47 (weak energy). The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, blowing from the SE or ESE at 9 to 16 mph, keeping things choppy and messy. There’s no clean face to work with. It’s a real struggle.
Even the early mornings are a write-off. The swell is too small, too short-period, and the winds aren’t cooperating. For a beginner-friendly spot that’s sheltered and inconsistent, this is a total flat spell. There’s a long gap of several days, from the 8th through to at least the 18th, where there’s genuinely nothing worth paddling out for.
The very last days of the outlook, from the 19th to the 23rd, offer a bit of a different flavour. The swell direction shifts to SE, and the waves stay tiny at 2 ft to 2 ft, period still short at 4 seconds. The combined energy is still weak, in the teens to low 20s. But the wind does turn cross-off or cross from the SW and SSW, which cleans up the surface. On the 19th, Sunday morning, we get a light breeze from the SW and clean conditions. That’s the best of a bad lot, but it’s still knee-high at best. This is more of a “sit on the beach and watch the horizon” kind of period.
Bottom line: No standout days. No real swell. The whole 16-day forecast is a flat, wind-affected mess. For this area, a blank run like this is more normal than unusual. The forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board at home.
Rusty.
