The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – this is a tough run for Flagler Avenue. We're looking at a real flat spell for the next week and a half, with only a couple of sessions that are barely worth paddling out for. There's a big gap of dud days to get through first.
The water temp is sitting right around 85°F, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real flicker of something rideable doesn't come around until Sunday, August 23rd. We're talking tiny, gutless little 0.3 ft of east swell, but the wind goes light and offshore from the southwest. The combined energy is a measly 26 (weak), so you're not going to be doing much. It's clean, but it's a total grovel session. That afternoon sees a bit more energy (60) but it's still tiny and the wind is cross-offshore, so it's surfable but very ordinary.
The next little blip is on the morning of September 2nd. There's a pulse of 0.8 ft east swell with a period of 11 seconds, pushing the combined energy up to 163 (moderate). The wind is light offshore from the west-southwest, making it clean. This is the best on offer across the whole 16 days. It's not a standout, but it's the only morning with a bit of push and a clean surface. The rest of the run is plagued by onshore winds from the northeast, onshore winds, or cross-shore junk that'll chop it up.
Look, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there's just nothing consistent here. The breaks are a beach and jetty setup, so when the wind is up from the northeast, as it is for the last week of the forecast, this is going to look more interesting for kiteboarding than for a proper paddle session. From September 3rd right through to the 6th, it's all onshore junk with tiny swell. There's a solid 4-day stretch of do-nothing conditions to end the run.
The best bet is to circle the morning of September 2nd for a chance at a few clean, small waves, but don't get your hopes up. It's a quiet period for Flagler.
