Table - best surf conditions forecast for Flagler Avenue over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a proper look at what’s coming up for Flagler Avenue.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with ya: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and uninspiring. There’s no real swell to speak of, and the wave energy stays weak across the whole 16-day window. The first hint of anything surfable shows up on Friday morning, July 25th, but it’s a long wait – about two weeks with hardly a ripple worth paddling for.
Friday, July 10 to Thursday, July 24 – This stretch is basically a write-off. Swell heights are tiny, mostly between 0.7 ft and 3 ft, and the combined wave energy is almost always under 100 (mostly in the 5 to 104 range), meaning weak, gutless conditions. Winds are often cross or cross-on, and when it’s glassy or offshore – like Sunday morning July 12 (WSW 3 mph, glassy) or Monday morning July 13 (SW 3 mph, clean) – there’s just no swell to work with. Even the afternoons that show a bit more energy, like Tuesday July 14 afternoon with 2 ft from the ESE and 101 energy, are still plagued by cross-on wind and just poor quality. It’s all flagged as poor surf conditions. Not a single standout.
Friday, July 25 – Finally, there’s a glimmer. Saturday morning, July 25, brings a clean 2 ft swell from the ESE with an 8-second period, light offshore wind from the SW at 6 mph, and combined energy of 50. It’s described as “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” That’s the best of the bunch, but let’s not kid ourselves – it’s tiny, weak, and only just rideable for beginners or longboarders. The water is warm at 85°F, which is about average for this time of year. Crowds are possible at Flagler Avenue, it’s a beach/jetty setup that’s very consistent, but with this lack of size, it’ll likely be quiet.
Bottom line: there’s no proper swell in the forecast, and it’s a long, dry spell until that tiny bump on the 25th. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that Saturday morning might offer a few ankle-biters with clean conditions, but don’t expect much. For now, the kites might have more fun than us surfers in these conditions.
Stay patient, Rusty.
