Table - best surf conditions forecast for Flagler Avenue over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it. It's a real quiet picture for Flagler Avenue for the next while.
Honestly, looking at this 16-day window, there’s not much to get excited about. The combined swell energy is weak, mostly sitting in the double digits (like 50, 25, 23), which tells you the ocean is flat. We’re looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak surf from an inconsistent ESE direction. The first week is particularly poor, day after day of the same story: small 1 to 3 ft swells and a sea breeze that messes up the surface most afternoons. There’s no standout session in the first week because the size is barely surfable and those afternoon winds turn it into a chop fest.
If you’re paddling out on the morning of Thursday, July 9th, you’ll find a tiny 2 ft swell with a 9-second period and a clean surface thanks to a light cross-offshore wind. It’s surfable but very ordinary. Water temps are 84° – that's about 0.5° warmer than average, so pretty normal for this time of year.
The weekend and all of the following week are more of the same. Saturday morning, July 11th, has a glassy 1 ft wave, but the energy is just too weak (25) for any real push. Sunday morning, July 12th, sees a clean 1 ft wave with a light offshore wind, but again, it’s a dribbler. You’ll see a few windows of clean conditions in the mornings, like Tuesday July 14th with glassy 1 ft surf, but the size never gets going.
This pattern of weak, short-period windswell drags on right through to the end of the outlook on July 24th. The afternoon of Friday, July 24th, has the biggest combined energy of the whole run at just 88, but with a 3 ft wave and a strong cross-onshore wind, it’s going to be choppy and messy.
Forget about anything over 5 ft because it never even gets close. There is no point in the forecast where the surf is big enough for an expert or even a beginner to have a proper session. The setup is a beach/jetty, so with this amount of weak swell and onshore winds, the whole stretch looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle board right now.
Honestly, it’s a blank run. This area tends to go flat like this, but forecasts can shift, so keep an eye out. For now, save the wax.
Rusty.
