The Lowdown
Alright, I’ve had a look at the charts for Flagler Avenue. Honestly, I’m a bit bummed to tell you this, but it’s looking like a pretty quiet stretch ahead. The models are showing a whole lot of nothing for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a full 16-day window here, but there’s really no standout surf on the cards. The first few days, all the way through the end of July, the swell is tiny and the energy is weak. You’re looking at ankle to maybe knee-high dribble, with the combined energy mostly sitting in the single digits to low double digits (10). It’s a real struggle.
The water temp is sitting right around 83°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The only real highlights, if you can call them that, come right at the start of August. On the morning of Saturday, August 1st, we might see a tiny pulse of 1ft from the ESE with a period of 9 seconds, and the energy bumps up a little (63). It’s still small, but it’s the best we’ll see. The wind is a light cross-onshore, making it a bit choppy, but it’s the only time the numbers even get close to being interesting. Sunday the 2nd looks even smaller again.
Honestly, for most of this run, the conditions are just not there. The swell is too small, the period is short, and the sandbars at Flagler Avenue aren’t going to do anything with it. If you’re desperate for a paddle, maybe that Saturday morning, August 1st, is your best bet, but keep expectations low. It’s a flat spell, plain and simple. Sometimes that’s just how it goes around here. We’ll have to wait for the next weather system to shake things up.
