Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s happening.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough stretch for Flagler Avenue. The whole 16-day outlook is a real struggle. There are no proper gems in this run, just a few moments where it’s barely surfable. It’s going to be a grind for waves.
Right from the start, on Friday the 3rd of July, we’ve got a tiny 2ft swell from the ENE with a short period of 7 seconds, so it’s wind swell, not much grunt. The combined energy is weak at (56). That morning is glassy, which is a silver lining, so the wave faces will be clean, but it’s just small and weak. That afternoon the wind swings and it gets messy.
The weekend is a write-off. Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th see the swell drop further, down to 1ft and 1ft. The wave energy is pitiful, in the teens and low 20s. There are some glassy mornings, but with those tiny heights, you’re just floating around.
The next week is more of the same. From Monday the 6th through to Wednesday the 15th, we’re stuck with swell heights mostly between 1ft and 2ft. The period stays short, around 8 to 9 seconds, so it’s all weak wind swell. The combined energy barely breaks three figures, with the highest being just 96 on Thursday the 9th afternoon, and that session is a write-off with a moderate cross-shore chop. A few mornings have glassy or offshore wind, which means clean conditions, but there’s simply no wave power. The water temp is average for this time of year.
There’s a slight flicker of life late in the outlook. Thursday the 16th of July morning goes glassy with a 3ft swell from the ESE, period 8 seconds, and energy at (71). It’s surfable but ordinary. Friday the 17th of July morning looks a touch better with the same 3ft from ESE, clean cross-offshore wind, and energy at (69). That’s probably the best of a bad bunch, but it’s still small and weak. For a beginner, any of these smaller, clean days are doable, but there’s nothing here that will get an experienced surfer excited.
Honestly, the whole setup is so marginal and small that if you’re into kiting, this beach-and-jetty setup with all that onshore afternoon wind would be far more interesting than paddling out for these tiny dribbles.
Sorry, folks. It’s a quiet spell. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
