Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you on this one for Flagler Avenue. It’s an exposed beach and jetty setup, and over the next sixteen days, it’s looking like a real bust for surfers. The overall pattern is flat to tiny, with very weak energy. We’ve got a solid gap of nearly a week of poor conditions right from the start.
From Saturday July 4th right through to Thursday July 10th morning, it’s a write-off. Swell heights are sitting at 0.3m to 0.6m (that’s 1 to 2 feet), mostly out of the ESE with short periods around 8 to 9 seconds, and the combined energy of all swells is weak – you’re looking at values like 37, 31, 12... just nothing there. The wind is a mix of cross and onshore, making for choppy or weak, rippled conditions.
The first tiny glimmer comes on Thursday afternoon, July 10th. The swell bumps up just a touch to 0.8m (3 feet) from the ESE, period still short at 9 seconds, but the combined energy climbs to 98, which is still very weak. The wind goes cross-offshore from the SSE, so it will be clean. The forecast labels it “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions” – that’s being generous. It’s still barely a knee-high dribbler.
Then from Friday July 11th through to Sunday July 19th, it’s back to mostly poor, tiny conditions. Heights bob between 0.3m and 0.7m (1 to 2 feet). A few mornings, like Saturday July 11th and Tuesday July 14th, see light offshore or glassy winds, which would make the water look nice, but there’s just no swell to ride. The only other day that sneaks a “surfable” nod is Sunday afternoon, July 12th, with 0.7m (2 feet) ESE swell and light cross-offshore wind, but again, it’s weak (energy at 59).
There are no standouts. There is no good surf on offer. For a spot that’s very consistent, it’s a rough stretch, but forecasts can change. As for the water temp? Not a factor since there’s no wave to feel it in. The only thing going for Flagler Avenue right now is that it’s a good place to not bother.
Stay tuned, folks.
Rusty.
