Table - best surf conditions forecast for Flagler Avenue over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, it’s Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for Flagler Avenue. Gotta be straight with you – this stretch of the next 16 days is looking pretty grim for anything that’d get a real surfer out of bed. We’ve got a whole lot of nothing going on, with a couple of moments that are just barely surfable.
The overall picture is one of very weak, short-period windswell from the east-southeast, with the odd shift to the northeast. The wave energy is pathetic, mostly sitting in the double digits – like the 25 (combined energy) we see on Saturday the 11th morning – and only occasionally nicking the 100s. Nothing has any punch. The water is a warm 85°F at the start, which is bang on average for this time of year.
The only real window where you might get a soggy burger out of this is on Thursday morning, July 9th. That’s the pick of a very poor bunch. We’ll have a tiny 2ft swell from the ESE, with a period of 9 seconds. The wind is a light offshore from the southwest at 3 mph, so the surface will be clean. The combined energy is a weak 50, but it’s the only time the whole vibe lines up. It’s not a standout by any stretch, just the least bad option.
After that morning, it’s back to the doldrums. The rest of the 9th, all of the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 23rd are just a long, flat, boring stretch of tiny surf with cross-shore or onshore winds. The swell barely reaches 3ft on the afternoon of the 8th, but it’s a cross-shore mess. There’s a morning on the 15th with 2ft and glassy conditions, but the energy is a measly 62 and it’s just not enough to do anything with. It's a total blank run. For Flagler, a 16-day stretch this poor is more normal than not, so don't hold your breath.
If you're desperate, you might find a longboard glide on the morning of the 9th, but that’s it. The rest is just a write-off.
Rusty.
