G’day, I’m Rusty. Let me level with you right up front: this whole sixteen-day stretch for El Circo is a write-off. There’s nothing here that’s worth paddling out for. The combined swell energy barely gets into the moderate range on a couple occasions, clocking in at around 202 (moderate wave energy) on Sunday the 12th of July, but that’s still labelled as poor surf conditions. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, with gusts between 6 mph and 16 mph. Not a single window of glassy or offshore wind to clean things up. The swell heights stay below 3 ft for a good chunk of the first week, and even when they push up to 7 ft by Monday the 20th of July, the wind is hammering it onshore and the period sits at a mediocre 8 seconds. That 7 ft might sound tempting, but it’s going to be a gutless, choppy mess. The direction is from the N or NNE, which doesn’t match the optimum NNW direction for the reef, so it won’t be wrapping in properly either. For a consistent, intermediate reef break like El Circo, that’s a real frustrating deal. For reference, there’s no water temperature data in the file, so I can’t speak to that.
There’s a gap of clear, poor surfing conditions from the 6th of July right through to the end of the forecast on the 21st of July. That’s a solid two weeks with no recommendations. No standouts, no hidden gem days – just a long, blank run. If you’re desperate, the strongest energy comes through on Sunday the 19th of July and Monday the 20th of July, with combined energy values of 599 and 626 (moderate wave energy), but the wind is still onshore and the quality is rated as poor. Honestly, with that consistent onshore wind and growing swell, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Keep an eye on the forecasts, though – it rarely stays this poor for too long around here. Don’t waste your petrol.
Rusty.
