Table - best surf conditions forecast for Zurriola hondartza over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s coming down the line for San Sebastián.
Right off the bat, the first week is a struggle. There’s hardly any energy and the conditions are just plain messy. The real standout is a long way off, but it promises to be a cracker.
The first proper surfable day is Sunday, July 13th at Zurriola hondartza. It’s small, only 2ft from the WNW, but the wind is light and offshore, keeping things clean. The energy is weak (64 moderate wave energy), so it’s just something to get wet on. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
Monday, July 14th, starts with a bit of hope – a tiny 4ft NW swell with glassy conditions in the morning. The period is short at 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly, but the energy is moderate (121). The afternoon turns messy, so the morning is a short window.
Then we hit a proper lull. From Tuesday, July 15th, through to the end of the following week, the surf is basically non-existent. Lots of flat, tiny days with poor wind and no energy. There’s a brief spike on Sunday, July 20th, with 4ft NW swell, but it’s wrapped in onshore wind and poor conditions. A few days later, on Wednesday, July 23rd, the swell bumps up to 7ft from the NW, but the wind is cross-onshore and it’s choppy. The energy is strong (414), but the quality is zero. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Finally, the jewel in the crown. The forecast is pointing to Saturday, July 26th, as the day to circle. Zurriola hondartza is showing a solid 8ft swell from the NW with a very long period of 13 seconds. The wind is forecast to be glassy in the morning. This is a serious groundswell, and the energy is very strong (1969). This one is only for experienced surfers – it’ll be big, powerful, and the long period will make it wall up nicely. The afternoon gets a bit bumpy, but the morning session is the standout of the entire 16-day window. Expect crowds, as it’s a popular spot that can get busy.
Rusty out.
