The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’m looking at the next 16 days for Dreamtime. It’s a bit of a slow burn, to be honest. The whole period kicks off on Sunday, August 23rd, and right out of the gate it’s pretty grim. The wind is all wrong, mostly cross-onshore, and the swell is tiny and weak. We’re looking at a couple of days of flat, choppy, and poor conditions. The water temp is sitting at 69°, which is pretty much what you’d expect for this time of year – nothing unusual there.
There’s a bit of a gap of poor conditions before we get a little glimmer of hope. The first real standout comes on the morning of Tuesday, August 25th. The wind swings to a light, clean cross-offshore from the North at just 3 mph, and the water smooths right out. The swell is a modest 3ft out of the East-Northeast with a short period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate at 160. It’s not big, but it’s clean and surfable. That’s your best window for the first week.
Then we get another gap of ordinary stuff until the morning of Saturday, August 29th. That morning is the absolute pick of the whole forecast. The wind drops to zero – fully glassy – and the swell holds at 3ft from the East, with the period stretching to 9 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (236). The conditions are described as “expect good surf conditions,” and with the water flat and no wind, Dreamtime will be as clean as it gets. This is the one to pencil in. The only downside is the crowds can be a problem here sometimes, so get there early.
After that, it’s back to a long stretch of poor conditions with cross-onshore winds and choppy seas. The swell stays small, between 3ft and 4ft, but the wind just doesn’t cooperate. The second week is a bit of a write-off, with Wednesday morning, September 2nd, offering a brief moment of clean cross-offshore winds and a 3ft swell, but it’s nothing special. The energy starts to drop off significantly by the end, with the combined energy falling to just 94 on the morning of September 7th. That’s weak stuff.
So, to sum it up: the window is tight. Saturday morning, August 29th, with glassy conditions, is your standout. Tuesday morning, August 25th, is your second-best bet for a clean, surfable wave. The rest of the 16 days is mostly a struggle with onshore wind and lacklustre swell.
Rusty, signing off.
