The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. The forecast for Dreamtime is a bit of a mixed bag, but there’s a definite window of opportunity if you’re patient.
Overall Pattern:
The next week and a half is mostly a write-off. We’ve got a big pulse of swell early on, but it’s arriving with strong, messy cross-shore winds that are going to chop it all up. The water temp is sitting right around 70°, which is pretty average for this time of year.
The Early Days (18th – 21st July):
The first few days are a real struggle. Saturday afternoon (18th) we’ve got a 12ft SSE swell with a 9-second period, but that 25 mph south wind is tearing it apart. The combined energy is high (3232), but it’s all cross-chop. Sunday (19th) and Monday (20th) are more of the same, with 13-15ft swells and strong cross-onshore winds. It’s just ugly out there. By Tuesday (21st) morning, the swell is still 8ft from the ESE, but the wind is dropping to a moderate 12 mph cross-onshore. The notes say it might be too big for this break, and honestly, that’s likely. The energy is still moderate (1060), but the wind is just not playing ball.
The Standout Window (22nd – 23rd July):
Now, Wednesday (22nd) is where it gets interesting. The morning brings a 5ft swell from the east, with a 9-second period, and the wind is completely glassy. This is the one. The surf will be clean and the conditions will be good. The water’s a bit cooler than average, but it’s the best we’ll see for a while. The afternoon is similar, with 5ft and glassy conditions. Thursday (23rd) morning is still clean with a 4ft east swell, but by the afternoon the wind picks up again, and it’s back to being messy.
The Perk Up (28th July – 1st August):
After a rough spell of onshore junk from the 24th to the 27th, we start to see a recovery. Tuesday (28th) morning is glassy again, but the swell is tiny at 2ft from the SSE. Very small, but clean. Wednesday (29th) has clean cross-offshore winds, but the swell is still tiny. It’s a long wait, but the real standout here is the morning of Saturday, 1st August. The swell is a modest 3ft from the ESE, but the period is a very long 12 seconds, and the wind is glassy. That’s a great combo for Dreamtime, promising clean, lined-up waves. The energy is moderate (292). It’s a long way off, so keep an eye on the long-range forecasts, but it’s the one to circle on the calendar.
Crowd Call:
Dreamtime can get crowded sometimes, so if you’re heading out on that Wednesday morning (22nd) or the Saturday morning (1st August), expect company, but it’ll be worth it for the clean conditions.
