Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the Dreamtime stretch over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag coming up. The early part of this week is a write-off, honestly. We're looking at a solid pulse of swell, but it's way too big and messy for a comfortable paddle. That initial energy on Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th has waves pushing 9.8 ft from the SSE and SE, but it’s being hammered by a strong 16 mph cross wind. The water’s sitting at a pretty standard 70.5° for this time of year. The combined energy is chunky – we're talking a raw 2055 on Tuesday – but it’s not doing us any favours. You'd be looking at a washing machine out there.
Thursday the 9th is a similar story. The swell is still too beefy at around 7.9 ft from the SSE with a moderate breeze, and the forecast keeps slapping a “too big” tag on it.
Now, hold onto your leash, because the first real glimmer of hope comes on Saturday morning, the 11th of July. The wind is due to drop to nothing – pure glassy conditions. The swell will have backed off to a much more manageable 4.6 ft from the SE with a decent 10-second period. The combined energy is a moderate 538. It’s not giant, but with that morning glass, Dreamtime will be clean and offering up some fun ones. This is the standout session for the whole forecast period. After that, we drift into a big, quiet slump. From Sunday the 12th right through to Thursday the 16th, it’s all small, weak, and generally poor. The swell drops below 3.3 ft and the winds are all over the shop, mostly onshore or cross. The combined energy dips into the weak two-digit and low three-digit range. It’s a proper lull for the guts of a week.
We get a minor spike of energy around Friday the 17th, with the swell bumping back up to 6.2 ft, but it’s coming with a strong onshore wind, which just chops it all up. Not worth getting excited about.
But then, look at this. Saturday morning the 18th of July is our second real standout. A week out now, so keep an eye on it. The wind is forecast to go glassy again, with a solid 6.2 ft swell from the S. That's an 11-second period, pushing a very strong combined energy of 1352. This is going to be a powerful, clean groundswell. At 6.2 ft, it’s right in the zone for experienced surfers. If you’re a beginner, this one might be a bit much. The swell direction from the S should line up nice for the break. After that, the energy slowly fades into the end of the window, with some clean but small waves on Sunday and Monday before it all dribbles away again.
So, to cut the chatter: Saturday the 11th of July morning is your best bet for a clean, fun session on the smaller side. Saturday the 18th of July morning is the one to circle for the bigger, more powerful, glassy groundswell – that's for the crew who know what they're doing. The rest of the time, you’re either fighting the wind or staring at a flat ocean.
Stay frothing.
