Table - best surf conditions forecast for Broadbeach over the next 16 days.
G’day, this is Rusty. Look, I’ll be straight with you—the next couple of weeks are a mixed bag for Broadbeach. There’s a real dry spell to start, with barely a ripple, but if you’re patient, there’s a solid pulse of swell and clean conditions coming our way in the second week. For now, we’ve got a lot of waiting to do.
The first action we see is on Thursday, July 9th, but it’s pretty ordinary. The swell is coming in at 4ft to 5ft from the ESE and SE, with a period of 10 to 11 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate (385 to 420). The problem is the wind is howling from the S and SSE at 16–15 mph, creating a cross-shore chop that’s going to make it messy. The water temp is 71°, which is about average for the time of year.
Friday, July 10th, the morning has a bit more size at 7ft from the SSE (10-second period), with combined energy hitting 1083, but again, it’s cross-shore wind from the south at 12 mph. The conditions are marginal, and the afternoon drops right off to 4ft. Not great.
Saturday, July 11th, is the first real standout in this whole period. The morning is glassy—absolutely no wind (0 mph from the north)—and the swell is 3ft from the SE with a 10-second period. The combined energy is 234, so it’s not a big swell, but it’s clean. The afternoon picks up a bit to 4ft with a long 12-second period from the SE (619 combined energy), and just a light cross-shore breeze from the NNE at 6 mph. This is your best bet for a fun, clean session on a small board. The long period means the sets will have some push, and the gaps between sets will make paddling out a bit easier.
Sunday, July 12th, offers offshore winds from the WNW at 12 mph, which is a major positive for clean surf. The swell is small, though, at 3ft in the morning and 2ft in the afternoon, both from the ESE with a 10-second period. The combined energy is low (181 and 127). It’s surfable, but very ordinary.
Then we hit a long dry gap. From Monday, July 13th, right through to the end of Sunday, July 19th, the swell drops to laughable levels—0.7ft to 1ft most days, with combined energy barely cracking 39. The wind is all over the place, and the conditions are consistently poor. Thursday, July 16th, through Sunday, July 19th, sees a bit of size return (3ft to 5ft) from the SE, but the wind is strong (up to 28 mph) and cross-shore, creating a horrible chop. It’s a total write-off. There’s a stretch of about 8 days here with nothing worth paddling out for.
The real action returns on Wednesday, July 22nd. The afternoon session kicks off with a 5ft swell from the SSE (10-second period, combined energy 491) and clean offshore winds from the west at 16 mph. This is a solid option—clean, good size, and the offshore wind will hold the waves up nicely.
But the absolute standout for this entire outlook is Thursday, July 24th—that’s a full 15 days away, so keep an eye on the forecast, but it’s promising. The morning session is glassy (0 mph from the NW), with a solid 10ft swell from the ESE at an 11-second period. The combined energy is massive at 1429. This is proper groundswell, and with glassy conditions, you’re looking at some excellent, clean waves. However, at 10ft, this is only for experienced surfers—beginners should stay out of the water. The afternoon is also strong at 8ft (11-second period, 1146 combined energy), with a light cross-shore from the north at 6 mph. It’s still a great option, but the morning is the pick.
Throughout this period, Broadbeach is an exposed beach break, so it’s picking up everything. The crowds are listed as “often,” so expect plenty of company on the good days. On the big 10ft days, the setup might look more interesting for the kite surfers if the wind gets messy, but with that offshore and glassy forecast, it’s worth a paddle.
Rusty.
