Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tweed River Breakwall over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the Tweed River Breakwall over the next couple of weeks. It’s a point break, consistent, and exposed to swell, but we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag ahead. The water’s sitting at about average for this time of year, nothing wild to report on that front.
Right off the bat, things are flat. There’s no real surf worth paddlin’ out for until Friday afternoon the 10th, but even then, it’s a bit of a messy one. We’ve got a 7ft SSE swell coming in with a 10-second period, but the wind’s howlin’ cross-shore from the south at 9 mph, putting a chop on it. The combined energy is strong at 1106, but it’s not gonna be clean. This one’s more for the crew who don’t mind a battle.
The first real standout comes on Saturday afternoon the 11th. The swell drops a bit to 4ft, but it’s swinging around to the SE with a 12-second period – that’s proper groundswell energy. The wind goes completely glassy, zero from the ESE. That’s about as good as it gets for a clean, lined-up wave. The combined energy is a solid 619, moderate to strong. This is the pick of the first week. Keep in mind Tweed River Breakwall can get crowded, and it’s often that way, so get your spot early.
Sunday the 12th through to Thursday the 17th is a rough stretch. Swell hangs around but it’s small, messy, or the wind is wrong. You’ll see a lot of days with poor conditions and scores to match. The energy drops right off into the low double digits. Not much to get excited about. On Wednesday afternoon the 15th and Thursday the 16th, the swell bumps up to 4ft and 6ft, but the period is a short, weak 7 seconds and the wind is cross or cross-on at 16 mph. The combined energy gets up to 296 on the Thursday, but it’s choppy and onshore – that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddling.
Now, we get into the second week. Things start looking up a bit on Monday morning the 20th. We’ve got a 5ft easterly swell, period of 8 seconds, and glassy conditions with the wind easing off from the east at just 3 mph. Combined energy is a moderate 424, and the forecast is calling for good surf. This one’s a solid bet for a clean, fun session. After that, the swell tails off again, with mostly small, weak waves through to the 25th.
The absolute best on offer across the whole outlook is that Saturday afternoon the 11th. Glassy, 4ft SE groundswell, 12-second period. That’s a quality window. The Monday morning the 20th is a good backup, with clean conditions and a bit more size. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or too chopped up. For an area that’s usually consistent, this is a lean patch, but it won’t stay poor forever.
Rusty.
