Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cromer over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a tough one. The next 16 days are looking pretty bleak for a proper surf. Don’t get your hopes up.

We’re stuck with a long run of small, weak, and messy conditions. For the first week and a half, from now through about the 24th of July, there’s really nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and that wind is just no good. It’s a blank stretch, I’m afraid. A few days around the 20th and 21st see a bit of a bump in size, with the north-northeast swell pushing 5 ft, and the combined energy hitting 225 (moderate), but the cross-onshore wind just ruins it. It’s choppy, blown-out, and not fun. This is more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle-surfing one.

The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.

Let’s look at the only spot on offer, Cromer. It’s a beach/pier setup, and it’s fairly consistent in its inconsistency. The optimum swell direction is from the north, and we do get some of that, but it’s never clean. The best we can see is a couple of days late in the run, around the 25th and 26th of July, when conditions turn clean with a light cross-offshore breeze. The swell is still tiny though, barely 2 ft, and the energy is minimal (12). It’s clean, but it’s small. Not a standout, just the least bad option.

The only real highlight, if you can call it that, is a brief window on the morning of the 25th of July. The wind goes light and cross-offshore, and the water goes glassy. But with a 2 ft swell from the east-northeast and a period of just 4 seconds, you’re looking at tiny, weak waves. It’s an option for a longboard or a foiler, but it’s hardly a bomb.

Overall, it’s a poor run. The surf is just not on. But as we know, it never stays flat forever, and the forecasts can change. For now, I’d leave the board in the car.

Rusty.
