Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cromer over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for Cromer is a pretty grim one. We’re looking at a 16-day window that’s basically a write-off for any decent paddle surfing. The waves just aren’t going to cooperate, and when they do show a bit of height, the wind is going to ruin it.
The first 9 days are a total bust. From Saturday the 11th right through to the evening of Sunday the 19th, every single session is flagged as "poor surf conditions". We’re talking tiny, choppy slop. The swell is weak, with combined energy readings mostly under 100 (3 to 89), and never getting above 184. The period is short, between 3 and 8 seconds, so it’s just windswell mess. The wind is a constant cross-onshore, or onshore, making it choppy and messy. There’s nothing to get excited about here. You’d be better off staying home.
The only glimmer of hope, and I mean a tiny, dim glimmer, comes on Monday the 20th. The morning has a very light offshore wind from the SSW at 6 mph, and the conditions are described as "clean". The swell is a tiny 3 feet from the NNW with a short period of 5 seconds, so the wave energy is low (72). It’s surfable, but it’s very, very ordinary. It’s the kind of day you might get a few knee-high lumps if you’re desperate. The rating is a 1 out of 10, so don’t expect much.
After that, things get messy again. The afternoon of the 20th has a strong cross-offshore wind that cleans it up, but the swell is small and the energy is weak. Then from Tuesday the 21st through to the end of the window on July 26th, it’s back to poor conditions. The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, the swell is all over the place, and the energy stays low. The biggest swell comes on Wednesday the 22nd with a 6 feet wave from the N, but that’s a cross-onshore, choppy mess with a combined energy of 361. That’s moderate energy, but the wind kills it.
Honestly, for any kitesurfers out there, the afternoon of the 22nd might be the only thing that looks interesting with that 6 feet and a cross-onshore breeze. For the rest of us, this is a blank run. It’s normal for this area to have stretches like this. Don’t write off the entire forecast forever, but for the next 16 days, look elsewhere or just clean your board.
Rusty.
