The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – the outlook for Casa Verde is a tough one for the next couple of weeks. We're looking at a solid 16-day window with consistent swell, but the wind is the enemy here. The water is sitting at a warm 82°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won't need a thick suit.
The issue is that for the entire period, from Wednesday morning, August 26th, right through to Thursday morning, September 10th, the wind is locked in from the east and northeast, blowing cross-on or directly onshore. This is creating consistently poor surf conditions with choppy, lumpy, and messy waves. The swell is there, running between 4ft and 6ft from the ENE and NE, but the periods are short (5 to 7 seconds), meaning the energy is weak to moderate. It's just not turning into anything rideable for a surfer.
Even though the swell gets a little bigger towards the end of the first week and into the second, the onshore wind just ruins it. The combined energy peaks on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 9th, with a 6ft NE swell, but the wind is straight onshore at 18 mph. This setup is honestly more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. We have a long stretch of days with no real window for clean, quality surf. The best recommendation is to wait for a different wind pattern, because this blank run of poor conditions is a real bummer for the area.
