Table - best surf conditions forecast for Atalaia (Molhes) over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's get straight into it. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty good for us, with a solid run of clean, surfable days lined up. Water's sitting at 63°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want an extra layer.
We kick things off this Saturday afternoon, July 11th, at Atalaia (Molhes). It's a beach and jetty setup, and it's fairly consistent. The swell is a small 3 ft out of the ESE, but the wind is glassy out of the north at just 3 mph. The wave energy is weak (341) but that glassy surface will make it feel like a million bucks. A proper little afternoon session for the log or a funboard.
Sunday morning, July 12th, is where it starts to get interesting. The swell bumps up to 3 ft from the ESE, with a period of 12 seconds. That's a nice, clean groundswell. The wind is offshore out of the west at 6 mph, making for clean, peeling waves. The energy is starting to build (297). This is a standout session for the early bird.
Monday morning, July 13th, sees the swell push to 5 ft from the SSE. That's getting into proper fun-size territory. The period is a short 8 seconds, so it'll be a bit more crumbly and less powerful, but with a light cross-offshore wind from the SW at 3 mph, it'll be clean. The energy is moderate (551). This is a solid morning for a bigger board.
The run of good conditions continues through Tuesday, July 14th. Tuesday morning is clean with a cross-offshore wind and 5 ft of ESE swell (418 energy), but the real standout is Tuesday afternoon. The wind goes glassy out of the NNE at 3 mph, with a 5 ft ESE swell and a period of 11 seconds. The energy kicks up to 521. That's a beautiful, glassy arvo with a bit more grunt. Crowds are "sometimes" an issue here, so expect company on a day like this.
Wednesday, July 15th, and Thursday, July 16th, keep the good times rolling with clean mornings and 4-5 ft of ESE swell and periods around 10-12 seconds. The energy stays moderate (447-574). Thursday morning is another highlight with a clean cross-offshore wind and a 5 ft E swell at 12 seconds.
The pattern continues into the second week, but the swell starts to settle down. Friday, July 17th, and Saturday, July 18th, offer clean mornings with smaller surf in the 3-4 ft range from the ESE and ENE. The energy drops off a bit (246-329).
From Sunday, July 19th, through to Friday, July 24th, we're looking at a stretch of small, clean mornings. The swell sits around 2 ft to 4 ft from the ENE, with short periods of 8 seconds. The energy is low (107-240). This is more of a longboard or foamie kind of window. The afternoons get a bit of a cross-on shore breeze, so stick to the mornings.
The last few days of the forecast window, starting Saturday, July 25th, there's a hint of a pulse. We see 3 ft to 4 ft E swell, but the wind is a bit iffy. By Sunday, July 26th, the swell jumps up to 7 ft from the SE, but the wind is howling onshore at 15 mph from the SSE. That's going to be a choppy, blown-out mess, likely more interesting for the kite crew than paddle surfers. The energy is strong (913), but the conditions are poor.
The best of the best? Without a doubt, Sunday morning, July 12th, and Tuesday afternoon, July 14th, are your top picks. Sunday morning for the clean, offshore lines on a building swell, and Tuesday afternoon for that perfect glassy, higher-energy session.
Rusty, signing off.
