Table - best surf conditions forecast for Atalaia (Molhes) over the next 16 days.
Alright crew, Rusty here with the lowdown for Atalaia (Molhes). It’s a slow burner, but there are some absolute score sessions hiding in the longer range.
Water temp is 64°, running about 2° cooler than average – you’ll feel that chill first thing.
The first few days are tiny. Tuesday the 7th has clean, glassy 3ft SE swell but it’s weak, with combined energy at 198 – not worth getting out of bed for. Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are similar, just 2ft to 3ft waves with light offshore winds in the mornings. It’s paddleable, but that’s about it.
The real deal hits the weekend. Saturday the 11th morning through Sunday the 12th afternoon is pure gold. Saturday dawns glassy with a 3ft ESE swell, solid 13-second period, and 383 combined energy – that’s proper groundswell with some grunt. Clean as a whistle. Sunday morning steps it up: 4ft ESE swell, energy near 440, and again glassy. This is the best window in the first week. Sunday afternoon stays glassy with a 4ft swell, period drops a hair to 12 seconds, but still clean.
Monday the 13th falls off a cliff – small waves and onshore winds in the afternoon. The middle of the week is flat and weak. Tuesday the 15th through Friday the 17th is mostly small, choppy, and not worth your time.
But then, look at Saturday the 18th morning. Glassy, 4ft of SSE swell, but the period is short at 7 seconds. Combined energy of 340 makes it fun for a groveler, but it's not the same quality as the previous weekend.
Now, the big one. Monday the 20th morning is the pick of the whole forecast. We’ve got 4ft ESE swell with a 12-second period and a massive 478 combined energy, all under glassy skies. Mark that date. The afternoon jumps to 5ft but the period drops to 8 seconds and the wind turns cross-on, so it gets a bit sloppy.
Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd push up to 5ft and 6ft from the east, but with short periods (8–10 seconds) and cross-shore winds. That’s going to be lumpy, powerful, and only for the experienced crew. Beginners, sit these out.
The absolute standout is Sunday the 12th morning – clean, glassy, decent size, real groundswell. For the long-range, Monday the 20th morning is the one to keep an eye on.
Rusty out.
