The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with the lowdown on Atalaia (Molhes) in feet and miles per hour. This stretch has a fairly consistent beach-and-jetty setup, and over the next couple of weeks we’ve got some windows of clean, fun-sized surf – nothing massive, but quality glassy mornings that’ll put a smile on your dial. The combined swell energy is mostly in the moderate range (268–341), so there’s enough push for an intermediate crew.
Tuesday 14 July starts off with a treat: cloudy but totally glassy, 3.9ft ESE swell at 10 seconds rolling in. The morning’s energy sits at 268, and it holds into the afternoon with a little bump to 4.3ft and 309 energy – still glassy. That’s your best bet of the whole forecast: clean, peaky, not too crowded (though it can get a few heads sometimes). A solid intermediate session.
Wednesday 15 July morning keeps the glassy run going – 3.9ft ESE, 326 energy, and offshore WNW wind at 3 mph. By afternoon the wind swings cross-shore and the quality drops, so get in early.
The rest of the week sees a mix of cleanish mornings with onshore afternoons. Thursday 16 and Friday 17 have cross-off mornings – 2.9–3.6ft ENE swell, short 8-second period – surfable but ordinary. Saturday 18 morning offers 4.6ft ENE with a cross-off breeze, but again the period is short, so expect lumpy walls.
Sunday 19 and Monday 20 are mostly poor with onshore or cross winds. A little glassy window on Monday 20 morning (3.9ft ENE, 8s) but not worth writing home about.
Tuesday 21 July morning goes glassy again – 3.9ft ENE, 8s – but the energy drops to 202. Still a fun early session if you’re desperate.
Then things get interesting again toward the end of the month. Thursday 23 July afternoon shapes up nicely: light rain, a cross-off breeze from SSW at 3 mph, 3.3ft SE groundswell at 11 seconds, and energy of 318 – that’s a good combo for a reefy point feel, though it’s a beach/jetty setup. Clean, longer-period waves that wall up. Mark that one in your calendar – it’s more than a week out, so keep an eye on forecasts.
Friday 24 July morning is glassy but tiny – only 1.3ft SE – barely worth paddling out unless you’re on a log.
Saturday 25 July morning: 4.6ft ENE, 7s, glassy again but short period. The afternoon turns choppy. Sunday 26 and Monday 27 mornings stay glassy with 3.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Very mild (max 19°C on Wed afternoon, min 13°C on Tue morning). Wind will be generally light. | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 24°C on Sat morning, min 16°C on Fri morning). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
