The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty.
Alright, looking at Atalaia (Molhes), it’s a slow start. From Tuesday the 18th through to the morning of Saturday the 22nd, we’ve got hardly anything—tiny 2 ft swells from the ENE with weak energy (65–130), and the wind is mostly messy or cross-onshore. The water temp is a normal 66°, nothing to write home about.
Saturday the 22nd afternoon sees a little bump in energy to 194, but the wind turns cross-onshore and it’s choppy—just not worth paddling out.
Sunday the 23rd starts clean and glassy with a 2 ft SE swell, 12-second period, and a light offshore feel, but the energy is still low at 142. You can get wet, but it’s small.
The real standout is Monday the 24th morning. That’s the peak of the whole outlook. An 8 ft SSE groundswell with a 13-second period hits, and the combined swell energy is a massive 2566—that’s powerful stuff. Wind is a light cross-shore breeze at 6 mph, so it’ll be clean. But 8 ft is for experts only; beginners stay dry. It’s a beach/jetty set-up, and with that long period, the waves might be a bit straight for the beach, but the jetty could work its magic. It’s just a morning window though; by afternoon the wind goes cross-onshore and the energy drops.
After that, we’re back to small, average surf for the rest of the week. Friday the 28th morning has a small 3 ft ENE swell with light offshore wind from the WNW, clean but only 124 energy. Just a casual paddle.
Then on Monday the 31st afternoon, we get glassy calm winds from the SW, a 5 ft ENE swell with moderate energy at 286. That’s a fun, clean session for everyone.
Wednesday the 2nd of September morning is another good one: 6 ft from the SSE, glassy with zero wind, energy at 574. Clean and punchy for intermediates and up. The afternoon stays glassy with 5 ft and 455 energy. Two solid sessions back to back.
So the best call is the Monday 24th morning—that’s the big one. The 2nd of September mornings are also worth a look. Everything else is small and just ticking over.
Rusty.
