Alright, surf’s up... or at least, it’s gonna try to be. Let's be real, it's a bit of a slow grind out there at the moment. We've got a run of small, weak surf with the energy reading at 731 on Sunday, but it's pretty junky and the wind is messing with it. It's a waiting game, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

The first real spark in the window comes on Monday the 17th. The morning’s looking the cleanest with a light northerly breeze, a touch offshore. We're looking at 5ft of east-northeast swell, but the period is only 8 seconds. It’s not going to be a world-beater, but it’ll be rideable and clean, with the combined energy at 285 - it’s something to get wet for. That afternoon, the wind swings more easterly and it gets a bit messy.

We've got a few days of very ordinary, small surf from Tuesday through Thursday. The swell drops off and the energy readings are weak, in the low 200s and below. There are some clean windows, like Wednesday morning with a light offshore, but the waves are barely pushing 3ft. Not really worth paddling out for unless you're desperate for a splash.

Friday the 21st has a chance with a clean morning and a 3ft swell, but it’s weak. The weekend looks like a bit of a letdown. Saturday is tiny and glassy, but there's just no push, with energy struggling to hit 100. Then Sunday the 23rd gets a bit of a pulse of southeast swell at 5ft, but the wind is onshore and it’s going to be a choppy, messy mess. Not what we want.

The following week holds some more promise, though it's far out. After a flat spell, Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th are pretty poor, onshore and small. But then on Wednesday the 26th, we see a shift. The morning is rainy with a cross-onshore wind, but the afternoon cleans up nicely with a light offshore. Still, the 4ft of east swell is a bit lumpy.

The real standout window is shaping up for late next week, around the 27th and 28th. Thursday the 27th morning looks good – clean with a light offshore wind, 4ft of east swell. And then Friday the 28th is the pick of the bunch for me. We've got a glassy morning with 4ft of east-southeast swell and the energy jumps up to 353. That's the one to circle on the calendar. It's a bit of a wait, but it should be worth it.

The weekend after that, the 29th and 30th, still looks pretty promising, with clean conditions and a consistent 4-4ft of swell. The period stretches out to 9-10 seconds, adding a bit more push. These are "expect good surf conditions" calls, so keep an eye on it.

The water temp is running about average for this time of year. Not much to get excited about there.

So, with the first week being a bit of a washout, the best bet is to be patient. Hang tight for that Friday the 28th session, that’s where the magic should be. If you can’t wait that long, the Monday the 17th morning is your best early call.
