Table - best surf conditions forecast for White Plains Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab your board. It’s Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming for White Plains Beach. This is a reef break that’s consistent, but honestly, for the next two and a half weeks, the surf quality is mostly a frustrating tease. The water temp is sitting around 80°F, which is about average for this time of year.
First up, we kick off on Friday, July 10th with tiny 1ft groundswell from the southwest, with a long 20-second period. The combined wave energy is moderate (176). But that ENE wind is blowing cross-offshore, keeping the surface clean – though the swell is just too small and weak to get excited about. Saturday, July 11th sees a jump in energy to 609 (moderate-strong), but the swell stays under 2ft at 2ft, and the wind stays a fresh cross-off. The surf is marginal at best. This pattern of small, short-to-medium period swell with onshore or cross-off wind pretty much locks in the first week. We get a little bump to 3ft on Sunday the 12th, but the wind isn't ideal and the surf is poor to marginal. The wave energy is solid for those days, ranging 675 to 817, but again, the quality just isn't there.
The second week starts to offer more hope. By Tuesday, July 14th, we see a slight shift with a 2ft groundswell from the west, period of 16 seconds. The wind eases to a moderate breeze, still cross-off. The wave energy remains moderate-strong (817), but the conditions are still just *marginal*. That “marginal” tag follows us right through until the end of July.
One standout window pops up on Saturday, July 19th. A 5ft east swell rolls in with a 7-second period. But the period is short, and the wind is still a moderate cross-off breeze. The wave energy is moderate (371). It’s still a beach-break-ish setup here, and the short period, shaped-up swell won't make the reef sing. Still, for a window with no other real options, it’s the best we’ve seen all period.
But the real moment to circle on the calendar is the morning of Saturday, July 25th. That’s the only time in the whole 16-day run where the forecaster actually says "expect good surf conditions." We’ve got a 3ft groundswell from the south-southwest with a lovely 15-second period. The wind drops to a gentle 9 mph from the ENE – still cross-off, making for glassy clean conditions. The wave energy is moderate (478). For White Plains, the optimum swell direction is south, and this is coming from the SSW. It’s close. This is the one. The crowd situation here is "often," so expect company. But for this window, it’s the only time it all comes together. After that morning, the wind picks up again by afternoon.
Overall, it’s a long, flat run of marginal to poor conditions. The break might be consistent, but the quality is not. We get one clear window of good conditions on the morning of July 25th. For the rest? Don’t expect much. Check back in tomorrow.
Rusty.
