The Lowdown
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what White Plains Beach has cookin’ over the next 16 days. Fair warning: it’s gonna be a lot of nothing before we get a brief taste of something decent.
Right out the gate, Sunday the 23rd of August is weak. You’ve got a 0.7m (2ft) SW swell with a 15-second period, but a fresh 35 km/h cross-off breeze keeps things clean, but marginal. Poor energy (combined swell energy of 597). Monday and Tuesday are more of the same – low energy, wind-affected slop.
Thursday morning the 27th finally shows a pulse: 1.2m (4ft) from the S, 17-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 938 – the only decent pulse of the first week. It’s clean with that cross-off wind, but still only marginal.
Then it’s back to the doldrums through the end of the month. Friday the 28th through Monday the 31st of August is just weak, with ENE winds howling around 30 km/h and small S swells.
Now, the jewel in the crown: Tuesday morning, 1st September. The wind drops to glass – only 5 km/h from the ESE, with a 0.9m (3ft) SSW groundswell. That period is a very long 18 seconds, and the combined energy sits at 657. Clean glass, long walls, and the reef will handle that period just fine. That’s the session to target. The afternoon changes with a light cross-on, so it’s all about the morning.
After that, we get a little bump on Friday the 4th with 1.8m (6ft) from the E, but with a short 8-second period and strong cross-off wind, it’s just a mushy mess with moderate energy (722). Saturday the 5th holds 1.4m (5ft) from the E with a moderate cross-off – still not great.
The last few days, September 6th and 7th, bring onshore winds and a risk of thunderstorms. Not your friend.
If you’re looking for that one golden window, it’s Tuesday morning, 1st September. Glassy, solid groundswell, and real period. That’s the wave you’re looking for. The rest of the forecast is mostly just background noise.
