The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here, checkin’ in from the coast. Let’s be straight with you—this 16-day window for White Plains Beach is a real mixed bag, and honestly, most of it’s a struggle. We’re lookin’ at a whole lot of small, weak swell and persistent onshore or cross-off winds that are gonna keep things pretty average. The first run of any real hope doesn’t show up until the very end, so you’ll need some patience.
Right now, through the middle of July and into the next week, it’s a tough slog. We’ve got swell heights mostly hangin’ around 2 to 3 ft, with a bit of a bump to 4 ft on the 19th, but the wind’s from the east and east-northeast, blowin’ at 12 to 19 mph, which is way too strong for any decent shape. The combined energy is weak to moderate at best—most days it’s a couple hundred, like 406 or 491, which is barely a pulse. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothin’ weird there. Honestly, this stretch is a write-off for paddle surfing; with that wind, it’d probably be more fun for kite surfing than dodgin’ the chop.
The best chance we’ve got—and I mean the only real standout—is way out there, on Saturday morning, the 25th of July. That’s the one to circle. We’re lookin’ at a clean 3 ft swell from the SSW, with a long 19-second period—proper groundswell energy. The wind is a gentle east-northeast breeze at 9 mph, blowin’ cross-off, so it’ll be glassy. The combined energy is a solid 825, which is moderate and promising. This is a reef break, so that long period is a good thing—it’ll wrap in nicely. The surf is listed as “expect very good surf conditions,” and with a score that’s a notch above the rest, this is your window. Crowds can be an issue here, so be ready for company. But for a summer spell, this is the pick.
The Sunday before that, the 26th, has a bit of clean 3 ft to 3 ft swell, but the winds shift a little more cross-shore, and the energy is a bit lower. It’s okay, but nothin’ special.
After that, from the 27th onward, it fades again—small, weak, and messy. So, to sum it up: the next week and a half is a bust, save your energy for Saturday the 25th. That’s the one that’ll deliver.
Rusty.
