Table - best surf conditions forecast for White Plains Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright mates, Rusty here. Let’s talk about White Plains Beach for the next couple of weeks. It’s a slow start, but there’s a payoff if you’re patient.
For the first week and a half, from Saturday the 11th, it’s pretty much a bust. The waves are tiny, just 2 to 3 feet, and the wind is blowing a solid 20 to 22 mph from the ENE. It’s a cross-offshore wind, which cleans it up, but it’s just too strong for the small swell to do anything. The combined wave energy is only in the low hundreds (moderate energy), which tells you all you need to know. You’ll be doing a lot of floating and not much riding.
There’s a little blip on Sunday the 19th with a 4 to 4 foot east swell, but the period is only 8 seconds. That’s a short, weak, choppy mess. The wind is still cross-offshore, but it’s a trap. Don’t be fooled.
Now, the good stuff. Mark your calendar for Thursday the 23rd of July. A solid SSW groundswell moves in, with waves around 3 to 4 feet but with a period of 20 to 21 seconds. That’s a long period groundswell, and it’s got some serious power behind it (combined energy over 1100). The wind is a moderate cross-offshore breeze from the ENE, making for clean, lined-up waves. This is your best day. The reef at White Plains is gonna love that long period energy.
Then on Sunday the 26th, we get another pulse. This one is a bit bigger, hitting 5 feet from the south with a 19-second period. The wind drops out to light and glassy in the afternoon, and the combined energy is a massive 1436. That’s a lot of power. This is excellent, but it’s for the experienced crew. At 5 feet on a reef, it’s not a learner’s wave.
So, bottom line: the first week is a dud. The real standout is Thursday the 23rd, with that clean, long-period groundswell. Sunday the 26th is the bigger, more powerful option, but it’s a step up in difficulty. Get out there on the 23rd.
Rusty.
