Table - best surf conditions forecast for White Plains Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what Oahu’s South Shore has lined up.
This forecast is a bit of a mixed bag across the next couple of weeks. A steady trade wind pattern is going to mess up the quality for most of the run, but there are a couple of windows that open up if you pick your moments. The water temp is sitting at 80°, which is about average for the season.
Kicking off on Sunday, July 12th, we’ve got a 3ft SW groundswell with a 16-second period and moderate energy (462). The wind is a fresh ENE cross-off, but the call is poor surf conditions. The waves are there, but the quality is off. Skip it. Monday the 13th is similar in size, a little more energy (645-737), but still marginal because of that same wind.
The first real window shows up on Tuesday the 14th. In the morning, a 2ft W swell with a long 16-second period brings moderate energy (613). The wind drops to a gentle cross-shore breeze. It creates a slight cross-chop, but this is the cleanest we’ve seen all week. It’s small, but the setup at White Plains Beach with those conditions is your best shot for a clean, easy surf. Not a bomb, but for a beginner-friendly reef, it’s the pick.
After that, the trades kick back in Wednesday the 15th through Friday the 17th. The swell shifts between W and SSW, but it’s the onshore and cross-off winds at 12-18 mph that ruin the ride. Most are poor or marginal. Saturday the 18th sees a pulse of shorter period E swell at 4-5ft, but it’s only 8 seconds, so it’s weak and lumpy. Not worth it.
There’s a long stretch here with no good recommendations through to the end of the third week. The wind stays relentless. Then, on Monday, July 27th, we finally get another proper look. In the afternoon, the ENE wind drops to a moderate breeze and turns cross-off. Swell sits at 3ft from the E with a 15-second period, carrying strong energy (682). The forecast calls for very good surf conditions. This is the standout of the whole outlook. After two weeks of battling the trades, that Monday afternoon on the 27th is the session to circle on the calendar.
It’s a long way out, so things can shift, but if that holds, it’s worth the wait.
Rusty.
