Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for White Plains Beach.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a rough stretch. We’re looking at a long, frustrating gap with no proper surf on offer. From now, right through until early July, it’s basically a write-off. The first faint glimmer of anything rideable doesn’t show up until Monday the 6th, and even then it’s a struggle.
For Monday the 6th, we’ve got a 3ft SSW swell rolling in with a long 16-second period. That’s proper groundswell energy, and the water is sitting at a warm 80°, which is about average for this time of year. But here’s the problem – that ENE cross-off wind is howling at 22 mph. It’s messing up what could be a clean wave, and the combined energy is moderate at 556, but the overall call is marginal at best. Tuesday the 7th is more of the same, just a touch smaller at 3ft with a 14-second period, and still that same fresh breeze. Not worth paddling out for.
Now, Wednesday the 8th is a weird one. There’s a jump in size to 6ft, but it’s coming from the East with a short, weak period of only 7 seconds. That combined energy is a strong 604, but it’s going to be a bumpy, weak mess. That same fresh cross-off wind is still there. Thursday the 9th is another 6ft, short-period E swell, and the call is still poor. We see a similar pattern on Saturday the 11th with a 6ft E swell and an 8-second period. This is just not surfable for a paddler.
After that, the size drops right off. Through the middle of the month, sizes hover around 2ft to 3ft from the SW, with moderate to fresh cross-off winds. The combined energy stays three digits, mostly in the 400-700 range, but the surf quality just isn’t there. There’s a slight uptick in the guidance on Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th, with the wind easing to a moderate 16 mph, but it’s still cross-off and the swell is tiny and marginal at best.
The only real standout I can point to, and I’m scraping the barrel here, is one of those early pulses. If you had to pick the best of a bad bunch, the incoming 3ft SSW groundswell on Monday morning July 6th has the best shape potential thanks to that 16-second period. But that 22 mph cross-off wind is a deal-breaker for me. It’ll be a frustrating session at best.
Honestly, for the first two weeks of the outlook, this setup is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. There’s energy there, but the quality for a surfboard is just not on. Keep an eye on the forecast for the third week, but for now, it’s looking bleak.
Rusty.
