Table - best surf conditions forecast for West Dale over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with ya – this is a tough one. We're looking at a pretty bleak 16-day window at West Dale. The waves just aren't showing up.
The whole forecast run is basically a write-off for any proper surfing. For the first few days, right through the weekend and into the start of the next week, we're talking tiny dribbles of swell. Thursday the 9th sees a tiny 1ft glassy wave, but it's so weak with a combined energy of just 19 that it's barely a ripple. The wind is calm, but there's just nothing to work with. Friday and Saturday stay the same story – small, weak swells with clean conditions but next to no power.
There's a long run of flat days from the 9th right through to the middle of the month. You'll be looking at a solid week of nothing worth paddling out for. The water temp is a touch warmer than normal at 61°, but that's the only highlight.
The only real glimmer of hope comes much later. Around Tuesday the 21st of July, we see a tiny bump. It's still small, with a 3ft swell from the WSW, but the combined energy climbs to 64. It's still "poor surf conditions" so don't get your hopes up. The wind is a light cross-offshore, so it'll be clean, but those 6-second periods from the WSW are pretty weak and jumbled. It's not going to be a standout by any stretch, just maybe the least terrible option in a very long, quiet spell.
For the rest of the run, it's just more of the same – small, weak swells and clean but cross-off winds. There's nothing here that's going to get anyone excited. It's a frustrating forecast for a stretch that usually delivers more. Keep the board in the car, but be ready to go for a swim instead.
Rusty.
