Table - best surf conditions forecast for West Dale over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty tough for a paddle. We've got a solid 16-day window to look at, but there's a real lack of surf on offer, so I'm gonna walk you through the long stretch of flatness and then point out the one little blip that might be worth a look.
Gonna start with a gap. From Saturday the 11th right through to the end of the 16-day period, it's a ghost town out there. Seriously, the energy is just not showing up. The combined swell energy barely cracks the double digits for most of that time, and when it does get a little life, it's coming from the wrong direction and with terrible period. Early on we get a sniff of a 16-second period swell on the 12th, but it's only 0.3ft. That's a groundswell, sure, but it's so small it's barely a ripple. The setup is a beach-and-reef, so with almost no swell and onshore winds, this is honestly looking more like a kiteboarding flat-water session than a surf. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing to write home about there.
The only time we see a pulse of any real size is right at the very end of the forecast, on the morning of Wednesday the 22nd of July. We get a 4ft swell from the Northwest, but that's it. The period is a pathetic 5 seconds – that's windswell, and it's messy. The wind is howling onshore at 19 mph from the West, and the combined energy hits 65 (still weak). Conditions are poor, and the break is exposed, so it's just going to be a lumpy, blown-out mess. Not a standout, not by a long shot.
So there you have it. The whole 16 days is a write-off for proper waves. Take the time off, do some maintenance on your board, and wait for the next system. The forecast can always change, but for now, there's nothing to chase.
Rusty.
