Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Tarpits is doing over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it's a pretty quiet run ahead. The swell is just too small and the wind is mostly on it or cross-on, so we're looking at a lot of poor conditions. There's a hint of something towards the very end, but don't get your hopes up too high yet.
We kick things off on Monday the 6th of July. Tiny little 1ft SSW groundswell, with a super long 16-second period, but the wind is blowing straight onshore from the SW. Combined wave energy is sitting at 211 (moderate), but the "poor surf conditions" label says it all. That onshore breeze is just gonna mush it all up. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
Tuesday the 7th, we get a tiny bump to 2ft from the SSW, period stretching out to an even longer 18 seconds, but again, onshore WSW wind in the morning and SW in the arvo. The combined energy is picking up a bit to 336 (moderate), but it's still a write-off.
Wednesday the 8th of July teases us with a bit more size – 2ft with a 16-second period and a 412 (moderate) combined energy reading. It's still just "marginal" though, with light onshore winds from the WSW. Not worth paddling out for.
From Thursday the 9th right through to the 20th of July, it's much the same story. Swell heights barely nudge past 2ft or 2ft. Periods are all over the place, from 16 seconds down to 9 seconds, but the wind is either onshore or cross-onshore. The combined swell energy mostly sits between 100 and 300 (mostly weak to moderate). There's a couple of days with "poor surf conditions" and the odd "marginal" call, but nothing that gets the heart racing.
There is one spot that might be worth a look if you're desperate, way off in the distance. Into the second week, the 20th of July Monday afternoon shows a pulse of 3ft S swell at 13 seconds, with the combined energy climbing to 308 (moderate). The wind is light and onshore from the SW. It’s a long-range call so treat it as promising but less certain. The 21st of July Tuesday morning looks a fraction better with 3ft and a light onshore breeze, combined energy hitting 394 (moderate) and the label stepping up to "marginal." Still not the cleanest setup though.
The whole outlook is a bit of a bust for a paddle surfer, to be honest. Given the small, poor-quality surf and the persistent onshore wind at a beach and reef setup like Tarpits, this window looks way more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but for now, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
