Table - best surf conditions forecast for Sutton-on-Sea over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Well, I gotta be straight with you—this is a tough one to call. The 16-day window is looking pretty grim for Sutton-on-Sea. We’ve got a real dry spell coming up. There’s a good stretch from now until the 20th of July where the surf is just not worth getting wet for. The wind is pretty much all over the shop, mostly cross or cross-onshore, and the swell is tiny or just plain messy. It’s a real bummer.
Now, the first time we see anything that might get your heart rate up is around the 20th of July. Monday morning, we’ve got a bit more energy in the water, with the combined swell energy climbing to 238 (moderate). The swell is coming from the north-northeast, pushing up to about 5 ft, but it’s a short period of 8 seconds. The wind is a fresh cross-shore from the north at 19 mph, which is going to leave it lumpy and cross-chop. It’s not great, but it’s the best we’ve seen. Monday afternoon pumps that energy up even more to 358 (still moderate), with the swell height hitting 5 ft from the north. Again, the wind is a problem, but if you’re desperate, it’s the pick of a very poor bunch.
Even then, the quality is still described as poor. The 5 ft swell is getting a bit big for beginners, and the wind is just not cooperating. The 21st sees similar energy, with the combined energy at 235 (moderate) and swell around 4 ft, but the wind is still cross-shore. It’s a frustrating pattern.
After that, we drop off again. The 22nd and 23rd of July finally see some offshore wind, but the swell is tiny, barely 2 ft. It’s clean, but there’s just no power. The 24th has a little bump from the south-southeast, only 2 ft, which is a weird direction for this spot, and the wind is cross-shore. The 25th and 26th offer some clean offshore windows, but again, the swell is too small to bother with.
So, what’s the call? The standout, if you can call it that, is the 20th and 21st of July. The swell is the biggest we’ll see. Monday the 20th is the one to circle, with the swell from the north hitting 5 ft in the afternoon. It’s for experts only at that size, and the wind is a mess, but it’s the only real swell window in the whole outlook. The rest of the time, you’re better off finding another hobby for a bit.
Don't get too down, though. The spot is fairly exposed, so when the right conditions line up, it can fire. This blank run is a bit more normal for the area, but forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
