Table - best surf conditions forecast for Sutton-on-Sea over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on the table for Sutton-on-Sea over the next couple weeks. Straight up – it’s lean. This break is an inconsistent spot, mostly for beginners, and the next 16 days are not giving us much to work with. The water temp is a toasty 67°F – that’s a huge 9°F warmer than average for July. Really unusual.
We kick off with a string of poor days. Friday 17 July afternoon has a tiny 2ft N swell with a short 4-second period and a moderate cross breeze. No good. Saturday 18 July picks up to 4–4ft from the NNE, period 6–7 seconds, but the wind is fresh and cross, creating lumpy chop. Sunday 19 July holds 5ft at 9 seconds, still cross wind and messy. All goose eggs.
Then Monday 20 July morning gives us a brief flicker. Swell 4ft from the NNE, 8-second period, combined energy 272 – moderate. The wind turns cross-off from the NNW at 9 mph, and the report says “expect good surf conditions”. It’s clean. That’s the only session in the whole period that’s even rideable. But it’s small and weak. The afternoon goes back to cross wind and poor.
From Tuesday 21 July onward, it’s all poor. Swell drops well below 3ft, often 1–2ft, periods 4–7 seconds. Winds are cross or onshore, occasionally glassy but with almost no wave energy – combined energy mostly under 100. Even the glassy spells on Friday 24 July afternoon and Saturday 25 July afternoon have only 0.7–1ft of north swell. Not enough to paddle for.
So bottom line: one morning – Monday 20 July – is your only shot, and that’s for beginners who don’t mind a tiny clean knee‑high bump. After that, a solid 12 days of nothing. For a break that’s already inconsistent, this kind of blank run is pretty normal around here. But the pattern can flip, so don’t write it off completely.
Rusty.
