Table - best surf conditions forecast for Sutton-on-Sea over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the whole 16-day window for Sutton-on-Sea is a bit of a write-off. I’ve been through the numbers, and there’s just nothing to get excited about. The surf is labelled poor across the board, and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it.
Right off the bat, Thursday the 9th of July and into the weekend, we’ve got tiny, weak swell bumping in. The water is a balmy 67°F, which is a massive 9°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a real standout, but it doesn’t help the waves. The swell is coming from the NNE, but it’s only 1 ft with a short period of 7 seconds, and the wind is onshore from the ESE at 18 mph. Just messy.
The weekend (10th to 12th July) offers a tiny bit more size, with the swell nudging up to 2 ft and then 3 ft, but the period stays short (4 to 6 seconds) and the wind is cross-onshore from the NE, making it choppy. The combined energy is weak, barely hitting 83 on the Sunday afternoon. It’s just not worth paddling out for.
We see a slight bump in energy on the 16th of July, with swell hitting 5 ft from the ENE and a period of 6-7 seconds. The combined energy reads 156 (moderate), but it’s still all cross-onshore and bumpy. The size is getting into the “too big for beginners” territory, but with the poor conditions, it’s not a win for anyone.
The only glimmers of clean surf come much later, on the 18th and 19th of July, where we get a tiny 1 ft to 1 ft swell with some cross-offshore winds and even a “clean” or “glassy” description. But honestly, the swell is so small (1 ft to 1 ft) and weak (combined energy of 11 and 60) that it’s barely a ripple. Then on the 22nd and 23rd of July, we finally get some proper offshore winds (WSW and W), but the swell is still only 1 ft to 2 ft with a short period. It’ll be clean, but you’ll be floating around waiting for a bump.
Because it’s inconsistent and the conditions are poor for so long, there are no real standout days. The best you could hope for is a very small, clean session on the 22nd or 23rd of July when the offshore winds arrive, but the swell is just too weak to call it a “surf.” The pattern for Sutton-on-Sea can be a bit bleak like this for a while, and the forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board at home.
Rusty.
