Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the outlook for the next 16 days is a tough one. We’re looking at a long stretch of minimal surf with nothing to get excited about. The swell is tiny, often onshore or cross-shore, and the energy is just not there. There’s a gap of several days before we see anything even remotely rideable, and even then, it’s a struggle.
Let’s start with the first bit of surf that’s worth a mention. Sutton-on-Sea is the only spot in the game, and it’s a beginner-friendly, inconsistent break that’s fairly exposed to the north. The water temperature is a wildly unusual 67°F, which is far warmer than normal for this time of year – a real anomaly.
On Sunday, July 5th, the afternoon is a write-off: a 0.7ft windswell from the north with a short 5-second period, cross-off wind from the WNW at 12 mph, and combined energy of just 2 (weak). The call is “poor surf conditions.”
Monday, July 6th rolls in with a bit of offshore wind from the west (16 mph), but the swell is still a pathetic 0.7ft, 5-second period, and energy at 2. It’s clean, but there’s nothing to ride. The afternoon is even weaker with 0.3ft.
Tuesday, July 7th sees a slight uptick: the swell nudges up to 0.7ft, but the period stretches to 7 seconds, and energy climbs to 6. Still, it’s not enough. The offshore wind from the west (16 mph) keeps it glassy, but it’s a dribble, not a wave.
We then hit a long, flat gap. From Wednesday, July 8th through to around Saturday, July 11th, the swell stays under 2ft, with wind from the east and onshore, making it choppy and useless. The combined energy is mostly in the teens – weak.
Sunday, July 12th offers the best of a bad lot. The morning shows a 2ft swell from the east, 5-second period, and energy of 32 (still weak). The wind is cross-onshore from the NE at 16 mph, so it’s choppy. The afternoon jumps to 3ft from the NE, but the period drops to 4 seconds, and the wind picks up to 19 mph, making it lumpy. For a beginner spot, this is pushing it size-wise but the quality is poor.
Monday, July 13th is similar: 2ft to 2ft swell from the NNE, with a 7-second period, and energy peaks at 80 (still weak). Cross-shore and cross-onshore winds at 19 mph keep it messy.
After that, it fades again. From Tuesday, July 14th onward, the swell drops back to 2ft and below, with periods under 7 seconds and energy falling into the single digits. The wind stays cross-shore or onshore, and by Sunday, July 19th, the swell is essentially flat (0.0ft to 0.3ft).
The whole period is a blank run for decent surf. There are no standouts, no clean walls, no power. It’s a time to check the wax on your board and wait for the next system. Honestly, with the onshore winds and tiny swell, this setup looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle.
Rusty.
