Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming up for the Stockton stretch.
To be straight with you, the next two weeks are looking pretty bleak. There's a long dry spell here with nothing much to get excited about. The first real hint of anything interesting doesn't show up until the 21st of July, and even then, it's not a sure thing. That's a solid gap of two weeks with barely a wave worth paddling for.
Right now, through the end of this week and into the next, we've got tiny, weak swells. The energy is just not there – we're looking at combined energy readings in the teens and twenties ( 19 to 86 ) for days on end. Conditions are a mess, too, with a lot of cross-onshore breezes and choppy water. For a surfer, this is pure frustration. You'd be better off tuning the fins on your longboard or just not bothering. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on there.
The one faint glimmer, and I mean faint, is on the morning of Tuesday, the 21st of July. We get a bump in the swell height to 3 ft from the east, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 174, which is at least in the moderate range. The wind is cross-shore from the east at 16 mph, which is messy, but not a total write-off. That's the best we've got, and it's a long way off, so don't book a day off work for it yet. The rest of that week looks like more of the same small, weak, onshore junk.
Honestly, if you're into kiting, the strong onshore winds we get on the 12th of July, with winds from the southeast at 28 mph and that lumpy, messy sea, might be more your scene. For the rest of us, this is a long, quiet period. It's one of those stretches where the forecasts can change, but right now, it's looking like a solid period to do other things.
Rusty.
