Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stockton over the next 16 days.
Rusty here. Let me tell you exactly what we’re looking at for Stockton over the next few weeks. Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet stretch, so don’t get your hopes up for anything special.
The whole 16-day window is one long, flat lull. There’s a few days with a tiny bump, but nothing that’s really worth paddling out for. The water is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, about 75°, but that’s about the only positive.
Stockton (beach/jetty) is a consistent beginner-friendly spot, but it’s exposed to the SE, and the swell just isn’t showing up. We’ve got a stretch of days – Saturday the 11th through Tuesday the 15th – with nothing but tiny, weak waves. Most mornings have that glassy feel, but the swell is so small (0.7ft to 1ft) and short-period (5-6 seconds) that it’s barely a ripple. The combined energy is under 100 (8 to 62), which is just weak. Not worth a second look.
There’s a little bump on Monday the 20th of July. The morning sees a clean, cross-off wind with a 3ft SSE swell. The combined energy gets up to 114 (moderate), but it’s short-period (8 seconds) and the conditions are still just “surfable but very ordinary.” The afternoon gets a little cleaner with a light offshore, but still, it’s nothing to write home about. The swell is 3ft, and the energy drops to 71. It’s the best of a bad bunch, but it’s not a standout.
After that, it’s back to the same old story. The 23rd of July has a 4ft swell with glassy conditions in the afternoon, which sounds okay, but the period is 6 seconds and the energy is 109 (moderate). It’s still just “surfable but very ordinary.” The 25th of July morning gives us a clean 4ft swell from the SSE, with a period of 7 seconds and energy of 114 – again, the best of the run, but not a proper session.
Don’t bother with the weekend after that. The 26th of July is clean in the morning, but the swell is 3ft and the energy is only 45. It’s barely a knee-high dribble.
For this stretch, there’s no standout. The best you’ll get is a few clean, small waves on the 20th and 25th of July, but that’s it. Stockton is usually a reliable spot, but it’s in a real dry spell right now. It’s the kind of setup that’d be more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer if the wind ever picks up, but right now, even that’s a stretch.
Rusty.
