Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stockton over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Stockton over the next couple of weeks.
Straight off the bat, I gotta be honest with ya – the next week and a half is looking pretty grim. The surf is small and weak, the wind is often messy, and there’s barely enough energy to push a meaningful wave. The first real glimmer of hope doesn't show up until Monday, July 20th, but even then it’s nothing to write home about.
We’ve got a long stretch of flatness and poor conditions from now through to the end of next week. The swell is tiny, mostly under 2 ft, with periods so short the waves will be wobbly and gutless. The combined energy is low, often in the double digits, which tells you all you need to know. Through Thursday, July 16th, there’s a brief moment early that morning with a light offshore from the NNW and a clean look, but with the swell a measly 1 ft from the SE and a period of 8 seconds, it’s just not enough to get excited about.
The first proper pulse of energy shows up on Saturday, July 18th. The swell jumps to 4 ft from the SSW, but the period is a short 5 seconds. The wind is cross-shore from the W at 15 mph, so it’s gonna be choppy and lumpy. The combined energy nudges into the moderate range at 105. It’s still not a standout, but it's the biggest surf we’ve seen. Saturday afternoon we get a little more size at 5 ft from the S, but with a cross-onshore wind, it’s gonna be messy.
Honestly, the only half-decent window in the whole forecast is Monday, July 20th, early morning. We’ve got a gentle offshore from the N, clean conditions, and a 2 ft swell from the S with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is 59. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s the best we’ve got. The comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," and that sums it up. It’s a small, cleanish wave for a beginner session.
For the rest of the run into late July, the swell tries to pick up again around Wednesday, July 22nd, with 4 ft from the E, but the wind is a fresh breeze from the NE at 19 mph. The wave energy is moderate at 93, but with that wind, it’s not going to be pretty. By Thursday, July 23rd, we get a bit more size at 4 ft from the ENE, but the wind is onshore and lumpy. It’s all just a bit of a write-off.
The water temp is around 76°F right now, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a solid 4° above average. That’s about the only nice thing going on.
So, the standout? There isn’t a real one. If you’re desperate, point your board at Stockton on the morning of Monday, July 20th for the cleanest, most surfable conditions of the whole outlook. But keep your expectations low.
Rusty.
