Howdy, Rusty here.
I’ll be straight with you – from now all the way through Tuesday the 21st of July, Stockton is offering zero decent surf. There are no good options in the sixteen-day window. The swell is pitiful, and when it’s not, the wind ruins it. If you’re determined to go, bring a longboard and a lot of patience, but honestly, you’re better off waiting for the next system.
Monday the 6th kicks off with storm risks and a messy 0.5m SSE swell at 4 seconds. Cross-onshore wind at 12 mph, choppy. Not a chance. Tuesday the 7th drops to 0.3–0.4m, but the morning is dead calm – glassy, with WNW wind at 0 mph. That’s the closest to “nice” we get, but combined wave energy is only 25 – barely a ripple. Tuesday afternoon cleans up with a cross-offshore ENE breeze at 12 mph, but still tiny. Wednesday the 8th stays small, 0.3m, with a clean morning under cross-off wind. Energy weak (18). Thursday the 9th brings rain and onshore wind at 15 mph with 0.5m swell – ugly.
Friday the 10th bottoms out at 0.2m ESE swell, cross-shore and choppy – skip it. Saturday the 11th looks clean in the morning under WNW cross-off breeze, but still only 0.3m. Sunday the 12th sees the biggest swell of the whole run: Sunday afternoon hits 1.3m from the SE, period 5 seconds (windswell), combined energy 93 – moderate – but cross-onshore at 15 mph and choppy. Not worth paddling out.
From Monday the 13th through Tuesday the 21st, it’s all small fries: 0.3–0.9m, with a few clean morning windows under WNW or NW winds. But the swell lacks size, period, and energy. Combined energy never tops the low 60s. Monday the 13th has a strong offshore from the NNE at 25 mph (energy 53) – clean but tough to paddle into at 0.7m. That’s a kite-surf wind, not a paddle-surf wave. The rest is flat, choppy, or onshore.
No standout day here. Stockton is a beach and jetty break, exposed to the SE, and this run of tiny, short-period junk just doesn’t deliver. Water temp on Monday the 6th is 77°F, a solid 6°F warmer than average – much warmer than usual.
Keep your eye on the forecasts, but for the next two weeks, don’t get your hopes up.
Rusty.
