Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stockton over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: Stockton is looking like a real dud for the next couple of weeks. I’ve scanned the whole 16-day window and it’s a total write-off—zero surf to get excited about. Every single session is rated as “poor surf conditions,” which is a shame, but it happens. The swell is almost non-existent or just too weak and messy to do anything with. The first few days are especially grim: tiny 2 ft east-northeast slop from July 12th, with a short 5-second period that’s just wind chop. The water is sitting at 73°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year—nothing unusual there.
The first week is a long, painful gap. From July 12 right through to July 19, we’re looking at waves under 2 ft, mostly 1.0 ft to 2 ft, with periods that rarely get above 8 seconds. That’s not surf, that’s a lake. The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, with a few offshore stabs on July 17 morning (NNW 12 mph), but with only 1.0 ft of swell, it’s just a clean flatness. The combined swell energy is a pathetic 10 to 39, so don’t bother paddling out.
The second week doesn’t get any better. July 20 has a 3 ft to 5 ft south swell, but it’s onshore wind (S 12 mph) and the period is only 5 to 6 seconds—just a messy, choppy mess. The energy jumps to 147 on July 20 afternoon, but that’s wind-driven junk, not a proper wave. After that, it’s back to tiny 1.0 ft to 2 ft dribble for the rest of the month. There’s one day on July 24 with a 25 mph south-southeast onshore blast, but that’s just shredded conditions. For a beach/jetty setup like Stockton, with consistent exposure to the southeast, you’d need a proper southeast swell with some length to it, but we’re not seeing it.
Honestly, this is a classic blank run for the area. The setup is more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers on those windy days, but that’s about it. No true standouts, no hidden gems. Keep checking back—forecasts can change, and it tends not to stay this poor for long.
