Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stockton over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk Stockton.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – there’s nothing worth paddling out for in the next 16 days. That’s a full blank run from July 9 right through to July 24. Every single forecast window has “poor surf conditions” written all over it, and the score is a flat zero each time. That hurts, especially because Stockton is a consistent little beach-and-jetty setup that can fire when the stars align, but right now the stars are scattered.
Water temp is sitting at 76° on Thursday morning, which is a solid 4° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s unusually warm, so if you just want a float, the water’s nice, but there’s no rideable wave attached.
Let’s run through the period. Thursday July 9 starts with a hopeless 1 ft east swell at 8 seconds, onshore south wind, combined energy of only 39 – weak and messy. That afternoon it gets worse: 3 ft of short-period south swell but with a fresh SSE wind straight onshore. Not a chance.
Friday July 10 has a tiny 1.0 ft east swell in the morning with a clean cross-offshore WNW breeze, but it’s simply too small (energy 25). Afternoon, 1 ft SSE swell gets cross-shore wind, still junk.
Saturday and Sunday, July 11-12, see even smaller waves – 0.7 ft and 0.3 ft – with some clean windows but zero energy. Sunday afternoon has a 0.3 ft SE swell at 10 seconds, energy 7 – barely a ripple.
Monday July 13 brings a slight uptick: 3 ft east swell in the morning, 7-second period, energy 63 – still poor with a cross-shore breeze. Tuesday similar with 2 ft but cross-onshore making it choppy.
Wednesday July 15 has clean cross-offshore winds WNW, but the swell is only 1-2 ft and weak. Same story Thursday through Saturday – tiny waves, clean wind but no size.
Around July 20 we start seeing a bit more energy: Monday afternoon has 3 ft south swell (6 sec) with onshore wind, energy 65 – poor. Tuesday July 21 afternoon hits 4 ft south swell at 7 seconds with a fresh cross-onshore SSE wind at 19 mph – that’s lumpy and ugly. Combined energy reaches 183 (moderate), but the conditions are absolutely not surfable with that wind. For a beach/jetty like Stockton, that setup would be more interesting for kite-surfing than paddle-surfing.
After that, it fades again. By July 24 we’re back to 1.0 ft SE swell with onshore wind.
So, no standouts. Not a single day where I’d say “go.” The good news? Stockton is a consistent break, so when the next swell comes with clean wind, it can turn around fast. Forecasts change – keep an eye on the window after this dry spell. But for now, stay home, wax your board, and wait.
Rusty out.
