G'day, Rusty here. Well, looking at the whole picture for Stockton over the next couple of weeks, I gotta be straight with you – it's a pretty bleak stretch. We're looking at a solid run of tiny, weak surf that's gonna test your patience. The combined wave energy stays in the doldrums, barely hitting triple digits a couple of times, and most of the time it's down in the teens and twenties. The wind is all over the shop, often onshore or cross-onshore, which won't do us any favours. Honestly, for the whole 16-day window, there's no single standout session that I'd rush to get wet for. It's a flat spell through and through.
Starting off, Friday the 3rd of July is a write-off. You've got a tiny 0.7ft swell from the ESE with a short 9-second period, and that combined energy is a weak 17. The wind's cross-off in the morning, but the swell's just not there. The afternoon gets worse with a 1ft onshore slop from the SSW at 12 mph – forget it.
The weekend doesn't bring any relief. Saturday the 4th, we're stuck with 1ft from the SE, energy at 17, and a cross-shore wind that'll just mess up the surface. Sunday the 5th is the same story – 1ft swell, dropping to an even shorter 8-second period, and rain showers for the arvo with a cross-onshore breeze. This is not surfing weather.
Moving into next week, Monday the 6th through to Thursday the 10th of July is more of the same misery. We get a tiny bump to 2ft on Wednesday the 8th morning with a cross-off wind, which sounds okay in theory, but the period is a short 8 seconds and the swell direction is from the SSE – not doing much for Stockton. The energy does climb to 68, but it's still poor. Thursday arvo the 9th has a 2ft with a moderate onshore chop. It's just not happening.
The second week, from Friday the 11th of July onwards, brings a little more wind in our favour. Saturday the 11th morning has a fresh 22 mph WNW cross-off breeze, which will clean it right up, but the swell is still a pathetic 2ft from the SSE with a 7-second period – energy is only 46. You might get a few clean ankle-biters if you're desperate. Sunday the 12th through to Saturday the 18th is a constant loop of tiny SSE swells, periods barely cracking 8 seconds, and energy figures that rarely hit 50. The wind turns cross-off a few times – like Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th mornings – but with 1ft to 2ft on offer, it's a long paddle for nothing.
Bottom line: this is a classic summer flat spell for Stockton. The swell just never gets going, and with a consistent onshore flow for large chunks of it, even the clean moments are too small to bother with. Unless you've got a longboard and zero expectations, give it a miss. Keep an eye out, things can change, but for now, it's a hard pass.
