Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stockton over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Stockton.
Alright, mate, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – the next 16 days are looking pretty grim for a paddle. The first real chance of anything surfable is a full week away, on Thursday the 23rd of July, and even then, it’s a tough sell. Up until then, we’ve got a big long stretch of tiny, weak, and messy conditions. There’s a bit of a pulse on the 21st with some moderate wave energy (105), but it’s a short-period, onshore mess, so it’s more of a kite-surfing breeze than a surfing swell.
The standout, if you can call it that, is that Thursday the 23rd. The morning at Stockton (beach/jetty) is where you want to be. We’ve got a clean 5ft easterly swell rolling in, with a moderate cross-offshore wind keeping things tidy. The combined energy is a solid 234, which is decent, and the water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year at 75°. The catch? The swell is just over 5ft, so it’s getting a bit big for the beginners, and the period is a short 7 seconds, so it won’t have the power of a groundswell, and the sets will be a bit close together. That afternoon, the wind swings more cross-shore and it gets a bit choppy, so the morning is the window.
The next day, Friday the 24th, is still a chance with a 4ft east swell and clean winds in the morning (179 energy), but it’s a step down from Thursday. Then we get a spike in energy on Saturday the 25th – 463 in the morning from a 4ft SSE swell, but again, short period (9 seconds) and strong cross-offshore winds. It’s got some grunt, but it’ll be a bit raw.
The only other glimmer is Sunday the 26th of July. The morning goes glassy with a 2ft SE groundswell (10-second period, 107 energy). It’s small, but if the conditions line up, you might find a clean little wave. It’s surfable, just nothing special.
So, bottom line: the best of a bad bunch is Thursday the 23rd of July, early at Stockton. If you’re an expert, the Saturday the 25th has the biggest energy. For everyone else, maybe wait for the next forecast.
Rusty.
