The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s shakin’ at Stockton.
Truth is, we’re lookin’ at a pretty bleak run for the next 16 days. There’s no real standout session to get excited about. The first few days are flat and messy. Thursday the 16th isn’t even worth paddling out for, with a tiny 0.3ft swell, onshore southerly wind, and barely any energy (just 6). Friday the 17th offers a bump in the morning with a 1ft swell and a light offshore from the NNW, bringing in some clean conditions, but the swell's too small and short-period to get your hopes up. The combined swell energy is a weak 9.
We scrape through the weekend. Saturday the 18th morning has a glassy 0.3ft swell from the SE with a long 14-second period, but it’s so small it’s barely a ripple. The afternoon brings a 3ft south swell, but it’s only 4 seconds, so it’s gonna be lumpy and weak, energy reading just 40.
Sunday the 19th morning shows some improvement with a 3ft southerly swell and a 7-second period; combined energy rises to 74, but the wind is howlin’ cross-shore from the west at 15 mph, so it’s gonna be a choppy mess. The afternoon cleans up nicely with a 18 mph NW cross-offshore wind and 2ft SSE swell, but still not enough punch to call it a real session.
Monday the 22nd morning is the closest we get to a decent window. A 3ft SSE swell with a 9-second period, light offshore north wind, clean conditions, and a combined energy of 83. It’s surfable, but ordinary. Not something you’d drive for.
After that, it’s rinse and repeat. Wednesday the 23rd morning offers a dead flat 1ft SE swell with glassy conditions – you might get a knee-high ripple if you’re desperate, but it’s barely moving.
The water temp is running about 75°F, which is 1°F above normal – so pretty average for this time of year, nothin’ special.
Honestly, mate, if you’re in the Stockton area and itchin’ for a wave, the best call is probably to wait. This stretch from now through the end of July is mostly small, weak, and wind-affected. The only faint glimmer is Tuesday afternoon the 21st, with 4ft south swell and a light cross-offshore breeze – it’s “surfable but very ordinary.” That’s the best on offer.
For the second week, nothing changes. The energy values top out at 105 on the 25th (Saturday afternoon) with 2ft SE swell, but it’s cross-on and choppy. The 31st Friday gives a clean 2ft SE swell but weak period and only 60 in energy. It’s just not happening.
No standout break to recommend. Keep the board in the bag, check back later. Forecasts change, but for now, Stockton is a flat spell we’ll have to ride out.
Rusty.
