Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stockton over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are a bit of a write-off for decent waves around Stockton. There’s plenty of small, weak slop and a lot of onshore junk, but no real standout sessions. The first real chance of something worth paddling out for doesn’t show up until Tuesday, 14th July.
For the first six days, from Wednesday the 8th through to Monday the 13th, it’s mostly tiny, messy, and not worth your time. The energy is weak (combined energy values mostly under 60), and the wind is all over the shop – onshore, cross-on, or just not offshore. The odd glassy moment on Saturday afternoon the 11th is a tease, but the swell is only 1 ft with a short period of 7 seconds, so you’d be struggling to get a ride.
Then Tuesday morning, 14th July, things get interesting. A solid pulse of ESE groundswell pushes in at 6 ft with an 8-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 503 (moderate-strong). The wind turns glassy offshore from the WNW, which is a major positive for clean conditions. This is the only real standout in the window. For you, Stockton (beach/jetty) is a beginner-friendly spot, so 6 ft might be a bit much for absolute beginners, but for intermediate and up, this is the session to aim for. The swell direction is ESE, which is a touch off the optimum SE direction, but the clean glassy conditions should make up for it. The afternoon gets ruined by a southerly onshore kick, so make it a dawn patrol.
After that, Tuesday afternoon flattens out, and the rest of the week is back to tiny, weak waves with poor wind. The water temp is sitting at 77°F, which is 5°F warmer than normal for this time of year – pretty unusual, so you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
The outlook for the second week, from the 16th to the 23rd, is fairly grim. There’s a glimpse of glassy conditions on Thursday afternoon, 16th July, but the swell is only 2 ft and the energy is a weak 60. Another small window on Tuesday morning, 21st July, with 3 ft S swell and clean cross-off wind, but it’s just ordinary. Nothing gets above 4 ft, and the energy never climbs past 94. It’s a long stretch of poor surf, so don’t hold your breath.
If you’re a kite surfer, the afternoon on Sunday the 12th with a 3 ft E swell and 16 mph cross-shore wind might be more your thing. For paddle surfing, you’ve got one solid call: Tuesday morning, 14th July.
Rusty.
