Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stockton over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for Stockton over the next sixteen days.
Straight up, I’ve got to be honest with you—it’s a tough stretch ahead. We’re looking at a whole lot of nothing for the first couple of weeks. The surf is basically flat or tiny for the first ten days, with waves barely scraping 1 foot and combined swell energy stuck in the weak range, like 16 (units). There’s just no power in the water. You’d be struggling to get a ride on a log, let alone a shortboard. The first record we see is for Sunday, July 12th, with a 3-foot swell from the East, but it's a short-period 5 second windswell, and the wind is a moderate 16 mph cross-off. It's clean, sure, but the wave quality is poor. Nothing to get excited about.
We then go through a long, flat spell. From Monday, July 13th, right through to Monday, July 27th, the swell stays below 2 feet most days. Tuesday, July 14th morning looks glassy with an offshore breeze from the NW at 3 mph, but the swell is a pathetic 1 feet with a long period of 9 seconds. It's a pretty sight, but you're not surfing it. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
Now, toward the very end of the period, on Monday, July 27th morning, the numbers finally start to look a little more interesting. We get a 4-foot swell from the South, with an 8-second period. The combined swell energy finally kicks into the moderate range, hitting 133 (units). This is the only true standout in the whole forecast window. It's still not perfect—the wind is a moderate 16 mph cross-shore from the East, so it'll be a bit bumpy, but it's the most surfable wave we've seen in weeks. Keep your eyes on that one, but be aware, since it's over a week away, treat it as promising but not locked in.
For the breaks, Stockton is the only name in the game here. It’s a beach and jetty setup, consistent, beginner-friendly, and exposed to the swell. Crowds are possible sometimes, but with a run this poor, I doubt you'll see many out there until that last pulse arrives. It's normally not this bleak for this long, so don't lose hope—forecasts can change.
That’s the long and short of it. This is a waiting game, folks.
Rusty.
