Table - best surf conditions forecast for Stockton over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let's talk about what's happening at Stockton over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a pretty bleak stretch for Stockton. For the first week and a half, there’s essentially nothing doing. The forecast is a long, flat run of tiny, weak waves – mostly under 2 ft – with poor surf conditions right through. That’s a real bummer, because even when the wind does go light or glassy, like on the morning of Saturday the 11th or Tuesday the 14th, there’s just no swell to work with. The combined wave energy is pitiful, often in single or low double digits (like 9 or 22), confirming it’s just not worth paddling out for.
The water temperature is a notable 76°F which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing going for it.
Now, the outlook does perk up into the second week, but it’s a long way off. By Tuesday the 21st of July, we finally see a pulse of energy arrive. Swell heights climb to 6 ft from the SSE with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to a solid 402 – that’s moderate to strong energy. The problem is, the wind is onshore from the SSE at 12 mph, and then stronger on the afternoon at 18 mph. That’s going to chop it up something fierce. For a beach/jetty setup like Stockton, that’s going to be a messy, blown-out affair. It’s honestly looking more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers.
The next day, Wednesday the 22nd, has a bit more energy (216) but again with onshore or cross-onshore winds. There’s nothing in this 16-day window that I’d call a standout. The only real event is that mid-week pulse, but the conditions are just too poor to recommend it.
If you’re desperate, that Tuesday the 21st is the only time the swell gets over 5 ft, but with those winds, I’d be giving it a wide berth. It’s one of those runs where the forecast will need to change drastically for the better. Hang tight, Rusty.
