The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s brewing for Satellite Beach/RCs.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next week and a half is looking pretty sad. There’s a real dry spell here. From Tuesday the 18th all the way through to the morning of Monday the 25th, we’re looking at tiny, weak swell with nothing worth getting wet for. You’re seeing heights barely scraping 2 ft and combined wave energy is mostly in the low double digits, like 25 to 61 (weak). The wind does swing offshore or glassy a few mornings, but there’s just no push to the ocean. A few afternoons around the 23rd do see a little more energy – 201 (moderate) on Sunday afternoon – but that comes with a moderate cross-onshore breeze that chops everything up, so it’s a write-off.
Then things finally start to wake up around Wednesday the 26th. That morning we get a pulse of long-period groundswell out of the east, 2 ft at 16 seconds. That’s a proper long-period groundswell – it’ll have some shape and push, and combined energy hits 159 (moderate). The wind is light offshore from the west, so it’ll be clean. The problem is it’s still small. Thursday the 27th is where we might see the best of this run. Morning stays clean with a west offshore at 9 mph, swell holds at 2 ft from the east, period 13 seconds, and energy is 145 (moderate). By Thursday afternoon we get the same swell height but the wind swings light and cross-off, and the energy jumps to 201 (moderate) – the model says expect good conditions then. That Thursday afternoon window is the standout of the whole outlook.
After that, Friday the 28th holds similar but drops a notch on energy, and by the 29th we’re back to tiny, weak surf with no real energy.
So here’s the truth: this is a long, flat run with one brief pulse. The best bet is Thursday the 27th afternoon. It’s not going to be big – around 2 ft – but with a 12-second period and clean, light winds, it’ll be the most fun you’ll have all forecast period. The swell is coming from the east, which is a touch off the optimum NE direction for this spot, but it’s close enough. Don’t expect crowds to be an issue – it’s small, and most people will be sitting it out.
For the rest, the water temp is around average for this time of year, so nothing crazy there.
Rusty.
