Table - best surf conditions forecast for Satellite Beach/RCs over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. I’ve scanned the next 16 days for Satellite Beach, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s a total dud. There’s no surf worth mentioning. The whole run is a long stretch of tiny, weak, and mostly cross-onshore slop. The first real look at anything is Wednesday morning, July 8th, but it’s nothing to write home about.
Let’s break it down. Wednesday morning, July 8th, at Satellite Beach/RCs, we’ve got a tiny 1ft ESE swell with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is a weak 30, so it’s barely moving. The wind is light and cross, so it’s not completely blown out, but it’s still “poor surf conditions.” The water temp is 86°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. You’d be lucky to get a knee-high dribble, and even then, it’s only for the die-hards.
Thursday morning, July 9th, offers a cleaner look with a 2ft ESE swell and a light cross-offshore wind, but it’s still a 1 out of 10. The energy is still under 100 (92). After that, it’s back to small, messy onshore junk for days on end.
There’s a gap of about a week after the first few days where nothing improves. The swell height rarely gets above 1ft, the period is short (8 seconds or less), and the wind is almost always cross-onshore or onshore, making it choppy and grovelly. By around Saturday, July 18th, we start to see some cleaner conditions with cross-offshore winds, but the swell is still tiny – 1.0ft to 1ft – and the energy is pathetic (17 to 24). It’s a kite-surfing setup if anything, not a paddle session.
The optimum swell direction for Satellite Beach is NE, but we’re stuck with tiny ESE slop that doesn’t match the optimum. The water temp anomaly is only about 2°F above average, so nothing wild there.
Honestly, if you’re hanging for a wave, you’d be better off waiting for a change in the forecast. This is a pretty typical blank run for this area when the swell window is shut. There’s no standout day, no hidden gem, no big swell to get excited about. Just small, weak, and mostly messy.
Rusty.
