The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a good look at what’s on offer for Satellite Beach / RCs over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you—it’s flat, and it stays flat. The entire 16-day run is basically a write-off for any real surfing. We’ve got a solid 14 days here where there’s simply nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, the periods are short, and the energy is weak. If you’re looking to get wet for a paddle or a swim, the water temp is sitting at a warm 85.6°, which is about 1.6° warmer than average for this time of year, so it’s not unusual—just your typical warm summer water.
The first notable mention is a tiny window on Wednesday morning, the 22nd of July. It’s glassy, dead calm, and the swell is a pathetic 1.6ft from the ESE with a period of 8 seconds. The combined swell energy is a weak 47, so there’s just no push. For a complete beginner who just wants to sit on a board and feel the ocean, maybe, but for anyone wanting a wave, it’s a hard pass.
After that, it’s back to the same story: tiny 1ft to 2ft waves, mostly from the east or southeast, with onshore breezes chopping it up every afternoon. The mornings are clean but with no swell. The best you’ll see is a 1.6ft ESE swell on the morning of the 29th of July with a period of 9 seconds and a combined energy of 54, but it’s still not enough to break properly.
Honestly, the whole setup here is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer with these sideshore and cross-onshore winds and barely any wave face. For us, it’s a blank run. The area is usually inconsistent anyway, so a stretch like this isn’t totally out of the ordinary. Forecasts can change, but right now, leave the boards at home.
