The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the stretch ahead.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – the outlook for Satellite Beach/RCs over the next 16 days is a tough one. It’s a real flat spell we’re looking at. For the first couple of weeks, it's basically a write-off. You'll be waiting a long time for anything worthwhile. The water temp is sitting at 86°, which is a solid 2° warmer than usual for this time of year, so it’s a bit on the tropical side, but that's about the only exciting thing.
From Monday 13 July morning through to Monday 27 July, the surf is just a sad story. We’re looking at tiny ankle-snappers mostly between 0.7 ft and 1 ft, with a combined energy that barely gets into double digits most days – I’m talking 10 to 30 on the energy scale, which is weak. The swell is coming from the ESE and E, with a short period of 8 seconds, so it’s weak, local windswell. There’s a few windows of glassy or offshore wind from the west and northwest, which would make the water look pretty, but there’s just no power behind it. Even on Wednesday 15 July afternoon when we get a glassy calm, the waves are only 1.0 ft – not enough to get excited about. The rule of thumb is, if you don't see a score above zero, you’re not missing much.
The only real change comes right at the end. On Tuesday 28 July morning, we start to see a pulse. The swell jumps to 3 ft from the east, with the energy finally climbing to 87 (moderate). That’s still not big, but it’s better. Then by Tuesday 28 July afternoon, we get a 4 ft east swell, with a combined energy of 169 (moderate). It's still a short period of 8 seconds, and the wind is a moderate cross-onshore from the SE which will chop it up, but it's the first sign of life. Still, the forecast still calls it poor surf conditions. That’s the best on offer, but even that is a long way off and nothing to write home about.
In short, for the first 15 days, you’re better off doing something else. The last day or two shows a little bump, but it’s not a clean winner. It’s a quiet stretch for the Space Coast.
