The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cookin’ for Satellite Beach and the RCs over the next couple weeks.
I’m not gonna lie to you—this stretch is flat and frustrating. We got a long run of weak, ankle-to-knee-high swell and winds that just won’t cooperate. The first real hope doesn’t show up until Thursday, August 27th, and even that’s a shaky prospect.
From right now, Wednesday the 19th, all the way through to the morning of Thursday the 27th, it’s a desert. We’re talking waves from 0.6 ft to 2 ft, mostly from the ESE to E, with short intervals. The combined swell energy is just a whisper, under 50 (weak). Mornings might look clean, but there’s no power. Afternoons get chopped up by onshore breezes. That’s over a week of nothing to get excited about.
Now, let’s zero in on Thursday morning, August 27th. This is the only bright spot. A pulse of 3 ft ESE swell shows up with a longer period of 12 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 238 (moderate). The wind is out of the WSW at 12 mph, giving us a cross-off breeze that’ll keep the surface glassy. This is the best we’ll see, but it’s still a marginal call. For the advanced crew at Satellite Beach/RCs, it might throw up a few decent, lined-up waves, but it ain’t gonna be a classic session. That longer period will help the shape, but at a beach and reef setup, it could just close out.
After that, Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th slide back into mediocrity with 3 ft to 3 ft ESE swell, but the energy drops and the conditions are just so-so. By Sunday the 30th, a fresh northerly wind whips up a lumpy mess, and then we roll into September with a solid run of onshore and cross-onshore east-northeast winds, keeping the surf tiny and poor right through to the end.
So, here’s the short of it: it’s a quiet period. Your only real look is a weak, marginal window on the morning of August 27th. After that, it’s back to staring at flat water. Water temps are about normal for this time of year.
Hang in there, and keep the wax ready.
