The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cookin' over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – this is gonna be a tough one. The whole 16-day window is a real struggle, with nothing close to good surf on offer. We’ve got a long, dry stretch of small, weak waves and mostly messy conditions.
The pick of a very poor bunch is Satellite Beach/RCs, but let’s not kid ourselves. It’s a challenge. The water is sittin’ at a warm 86°F currently, which is about 2°F warmer than average for this time of year – a bit of a tropical bath.
Things start off flat and stay that way. From Thursday, July 16th right through to Friday, July 24th, it’s all poor surf conditions. We’re looking at tiny bumps of 0.7ft to 3ft, with combined wave energy peaking at a measly 90 (weak). The swell direction flips between ESE and E, with a short period of 4 to 8 seconds – no power, no push. Most days have a cross-off or cross-onshore wind, keeping things clean but tiny. On Saturday, July 18th, the period drops to 4 seconds, which is just junky wind chop.
Finally, on Saturday, July 25th in the morning, we get a tiny glimmer of hope. The comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” The swell is 2ft from the E at 8 seconds, with a combined energy of 67 (still weak). The wind is a light 6 mph cross-off from the SW, which means it’s clean. That’s the only session in the whole 16 days that’s even worth a look, and even then, it’s a real rookie wave. For a more advanced surfer, it’s just not gonna do it.
After that, it’s right back to the doldrums. From Sunday, July 26th right through to Friday, July 31st, it’s all poor surf conditions again. Combined energy stays below 60, and the swell is a constant 1ft to 2ft. The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, keeping things bumpy and weak.
Honestly, for a spot that’s “very consistent,” this is a brutal run. The swell is just too small, too short-period, and the energy is pathetic. With these tiny waves and moderate wind, the setup looks more interesting for a kite session than a paddle. But if you’re desperate, and I mean *desperate*, the morning of the 25th is your only prayer.
Rusty.
