Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me tell you straight up: if you're looking for a wave in the Satellite Beach area over the next 16 days, you're going to be staring at a lot of flat, messy water. There's just nothing doing for us paddle surfers.
The whole run is a write-off. From Friday, July 3rd, all the way through to Saturday, July 18th, every single session is marked as poor surf conditions. That's a solid 16-day gap with nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, barely scraping 2 ft at its absolute best, and mostly hanging around a pathetic 1.0 ft to 1 ft. It's coming from the east and southeast, with periods so short (4 to 9 seconds) that it’s just wind chop, not a real wave. The combined wave energy is consistently weak, never even getting into triple digits, so you’re looking at numbers like 17 or 46 (weak energy). For the few mornings where the wind goes offshore from the southwest or west—like Monday the 6th, Tuesday the 7th, or Sunday the 12th—it’s clean, sure, but there’s nothing to surf on. It’s a cruel tease.
Even the two days we get a glassy start—like Friday morning July 3rd with a 2 ft NE swell and 0 mph winds, and Saturday morning July 18th—the swell is just too weak and gutless to form a rideable wave. At Satellite Beach/RCs, which is an exposed spot best with a NE swell, this tiny 2 ft NE offering on the 3rd gets an immediate ‘poor surf conditions’ tag. When the wind does fill in from the east or southeast, it’s cross-onshore or onshore, chopping up the already flat ocean. This setup honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, because there's no wave to catch.
There are no standouts here. The water temperature on the morning of the 3rd is 85°F, which is 0.9°F above average—so just your typical warm Florida summer bath. But with no waves, it doesn't really matter. I’d say hang the board up for now, folks. This is a blank run, and it’s a normal thing for this area when the swell just doesn’t show. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a total bust.
Rusty.
