The Lowdown
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let's get into what the next couple of weeks are looking like for us. Gotta be straight with you – it's shaping up to be a pretty quiet stretch, with a long dry spell before we see anything worth a paddle.
For the first ten days, from Monday, August 17th right through to Wednesday, August 26th, it's basically flat. The swell's tiny, barely pushing 1ft at best, and the energy is puny. The combined energy of all swells is in the low double digits, barely cracking 30 on most days. The mornings do have glassy, clean conditions with light offshore breezes, which is nice for a paddle, but there's just zero waves. It's one of those periods where you look at the forecast, sigh, and find something else to do.
Things start to twitch a little on the morning of Thursday, August 27th. We get a bump in the swell to 2ft, with a bit more period (12 seconds), and the combined energy climbs to 123. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the southwest, keeping the surface clean. It's surfable, but it's ordinary. Not a standout, just a whisper of hope. The afternoons get chopped up, so the early bird might get a crumb.
Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th of August are more of the same – tiny 2ft to 2ft swells with clean mornings but onshore slop in the afternoons. The energy on Saturday morning is 95, so still weak. We're not at the point of getting excited yet.
Then we skip to the end of the window. Monday afternoon, August 31st, turns glassy and clean, but with a swell of only 1ft, it's not enough to ride.
So the honest truth? There are no standout days here. No big swell, no perfect conditions. The best of a bad bunch is the morning of Thursday, August 27th at Satellite Beach/RCs. It's an exposed beach and reef break, so it needs swell from the northeast to be at its best, and we're only getting a weak 2ft from the east. The wind is cross-offshore from the southwest, leaving it clean but tiny. The combined energy is around 123, which finally registers as moderate, but barely. To be honest, this setup looks more interesting for the kite surfers than for those of us with paddles right now. Hang in there, it's just one of those spells.
Rusty.
