Alright, Rusty here again, same story but in feet and miles. We're looking at Rockpile for the next 16 days. It's a reef break that's usually consistent and loves southwest swell – and we've got plenty of that direction. But the wind? That's the problem, and it's not a good one.
We start Tuesday July 7 with a small SW groundswell about 4ft, 18-second period, moderate energy (785). That long period means good shape on the reef, but the wind is cross-onshore from the west at 9 mph, so it's choppy. Marginal – you might snag a couple, but it won't be clean. Wednesday July 8 has similar size (3ft, 16s) with a light onshore breeze in the morning. Still not ideal. The afternoon picks up a touch but still cross-onshore, energy drops. First couple days are just a paddle – not much to write home about.
Then we hit a long dry stretch. From Thursday July 9 through to Sunday July 18, it's mostly poor conditions. Swell hangs around 3–3ft but with onshore or cross-onshore winds, often moderate, and energy levels dropping into the 200–400 range – weak and messy. There's a brief flicker Saturday afternoon July 11 with a light onshore wind, still marginal. That's about ten days of poor to mediocre – you'd be better off doing something else.
Things turn slightly on Saturday July 18. Morning shows 3ft SW swell at 18 seconds, light onshore wind from the southwest – directly onshore. Energy climbs to 464, still marginal. But Sunday July 19 morning is our best shot: 3ft from the southwest, 17-second period, moderate energy (631), and a light cross-shore breeze from the northwest – that's the best wind we've seen. The reef should clean up nicely, offering long, rippable lines. This is the standout of the outlook. Expect crowds – it's often busy, and with only one decent day in a while, it'll be packed. Swell is small, so beginners can handle it, but the long period means long waits between sets.
Monday July 20 brings a little more size – 4ft from the south, 13-second period, but cross-onshore winds again. Energy moderate (738), but the shorter period and chop spoil it. After that, back to marginal or poor through Wednesday July 22.
So overall, it's a lean forecast. If you can get out early Sunday July 19, you might score some clean little waves on the reef. Otherwise, it's a waiting game. The combined swell energy stays moderate (200–880) – nothing strong, just a persistent but small SW groundswell. The winds just won't cooperate for most of it.
Stay patient, and keep an eye on those forecasts – things can change.
Rusty.
