Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rockpile over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming up over the next couple of weeks.
We start off with a rough patch. From Wednesday 8 July right through to Saturday 18 July, it’s a real dry spell. Swell is running 2ft to 3ft, but the wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, and the models are calling it marginal or poor. The combined swell energy sits between (237) and (882) – nothing to get fired up about. Rockpile is a no-go.
Then, on Sunday 19 July morning, we get a chance. Early, there’s a light westerly breeze turning glassy – dead calm. Swell sits at 3ft from the SW with a very long period of 17 seconds, and the energy jumps to (617). That groundswell will wrap nicely into this reef. The optimum direction is SW, and that’s spot on. Because it’s a reef, that long period should line up beautifully. Crowds are “often” at Rockpile (located in the region), so expect company, but with conditions that clean, it’ll be worth it. The water temperature is about average for this time of year.
Sunday afternoon the cross-on breeze returns, so that window is short. Monday 20 July offers a little more – NW cross-shore winds, 3ft SW swell, period around 15 to 16 seconds, energy in the (500s). Not as clean as Sunday morning, but it’s rideable and much better than the junk before it.
The clear standout? Sunday 19 July morning. That’s your best bet. Light winds, glassy water, a clean 3ft SW groundswell. If you’re a beginner, that size is fine – not too big. Get in early.
After that, the outlook fades again. Monday afternoon holds some marginal hope, but by Tuesday and beyond, it’s back to poor conditions with smaller swell and less energy. Nothing else worth chasing in the second week.
Stay patient, nail that Sunday morning, and I’ll see you out there.
Rusty.
