The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s cookin’ at Prainha.
Honestly, the next week and a half is a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got some small, clean windows but nothing that’ll have you scrambling for your board. The water’s sitting at about 64°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real glimmer of decent surf shows up on Friday, July 24th, in the morning. We’re looking at chest-high waves around 5 ft, coming from the SSE with a short 8-second period. The energy is moderate (360), and with a light offshore breeze from the south, it’s gonna be clean. This is the standout of the first week – a solid session for advanced surfers, though it’s a bit dumpy for beginners. Expect crowds to be possible.
After that, the surf gets small and inconsistent. We hit a dry spell from Saturday, July 25th, right through to Tuesday, July 28th, with only knee-to-waist high, weak waves and mostly messy winds. Not worth the paddle out.
Then, on Wednesday, July 29th, things get interesting again. The morning brings a 4 ft swell from the east with a longer 11-second period, pushing moderate energy (331). The wind is light and cross-off from the NW, so it’ll be glassy and clean. This is the best of the whole outlook – a proper long-period groundswell that’ll handle the point and reef setups well. The afternoon holds up too, with 4 ft and clean conditions. Keep an eye on this one, but it’s a week and a half out, so don’t lock it in yet.
Beyond that, Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st drop back to small, ordinary waves. The first few days of August are looking weak and onshore, with nothing to write home about.
So, bottom line: if you’re picking a day, aim for Friday the 24th morning for a clean, head-high session, or Wednesday the 29th morning for the best quality swell of the whole run. The rest is mostly a waiting game.
