The Lowdown

Alright, this is Rusty comin' at you from the desk. Let's take a look at what Praia do Forte has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.

Straight up, folks, I gotta be honest with you. The next 16 days are looking like a real flat spell. We're staring down the barrel of a long stretch with nothing to get excited about. The first bit of surf that's even worth a mention doesn't show up until way down the line. For a good week and a half, from the start of the forecast through to the 13th of August, the waves are tiny and the energy is just not there. It's going to be a quiet one.

Now, Praia do Forte itself is a point break, and it's a tricky one. It's very sheltered, and it *rarely breaks*. That's a big caveat. The forecast is showing it's best when there's some SE swell, as that's the direction that sneaks in here. The water temp is around 66 °F, which is bang on average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.

The one small highlight, and I mean *small*, is on the afternoon of Thursday the 13th of August. That morning we get some offshores with a tiny 0.3 ft SE swell, but by the afternoon things pick up a touch. We're looking at a 1 ft SE swell rolling in with a period of 15 seconds. That's a long-period groundswell, which is good for a point like this, and the combined energy jumps up to 93 (moderate). The wind will be light and offshore from the S, so it should be clean. This is the best we'll see, but with a break that's inconsistent and such a small wave, it's a real gamble. It's a long shot, but it's the only shot.

After that, it's back to the doldrums. The 14th of August sees a bit of a NE windswell, but with a short period of 7 seconds and an onshore wind, it's not going to be any good. The rest of the window is much the same: tiny swell, glassy conditions but no push. For the 18th, a 0.7 ft glassy morning is about as good as it gets, but again, barely a ripple.

So, to sum it up, the whole 16-day window is a write-off. There's no standout session here. The only real chance at a wave is that Thursday the 13th, but it's for the dedicated and those who know the break well. For everyone else, it's a time to fix your dings, check the forecasts, and hope for a change. This kind of blank run is more normal for this area, so don't be too disheartened. Forecasts can change.

Until next time, keep your eyes on the horizon.

Rusty.
